- A teenage thug killed a stranger just 30 minutes after he had been freed by police for slashing a shopkeeper.
The 15-year-old punched Patrick Colquhoun, 70, who fell and suffered a fatal injury following the attack in Victoria Road in Glasgow's Govanhill on April 12 this year.
The boy had that same day struck Nadeen Mohammed with a blade after an incident at the 65-year-old's off-sales.
The teenager - who cannot be identified due to his age - today appeared in the dock at the High Court in Glasgow.
He pleaded guilty - via his KC John Scullion - to the culpable homicide of Mr Colquhoun. The boy also admitted to assaulting Mr Mohammed to his injury.

To be fair he is under 18. I agree that he should be named but it is the law that unless a judge rules it can be done they have to remain anonymous. The law needs to be changed so that anyone over the age of criminal responsibility can be named.

He’s being held in a secure unit so the public no longer need to worry about their protection. It’s down to the JUDGE whether he can be named due to his age. We’ve been down this road many times before and people still say why are they not naming him

A 13 year old held a knife to my sons stomach, we knew his name and called the police who straight up told us that the boy wouldn't be punished because of his age! They said it would go to a childrens panel and dealt with by social work. The police also said the boy was very well known to them for similar incidents which makes it worse that nothing was done. Since this I have heard he has thrown boulders off a bridge and caused a car crash, he has poured a hot drink over a subway employee and tipped shelves over when banned from our local Spar. How is this wee guy even allowed out? If someone is killed then it is the police to blame because his crime is escalating. This isn't a rough area we stay in, it is unusual for things like this.

A family friend trained as a paramedic after losing her young husband to brain cancer . She was on duty one night and called to an emergency. It was a man who had passed out drunk. Police were present but when he came round he pinched our friend breaking her nose and causing neurological damage .She was off work for about a year and returned to work on office duties as she couldn't face resuming her job.
The man who punched her had been released from prison three days earlier and he wanted to go back to prison.

When I was in primary and secondary school the vice-principals and principal kept wooden paddles mounted on the wall behind their desks. I was politely invited to experience the hard discipline promised by the oak paddle for fighting with another boy. I declined and adjusted my behavior from then on. Most everyone who kicked off and was given the same option also chose the same path as I. Children today are, imo, more feral as corporal punishment has fallen out of favor in the West. In fact, any kind of consequences or discipline of any kind seems to be absent as well. Instead they get coddled and taught they are victims who have no agency. And to think that these little monsters will be running the show soon.

We also had a teacher who violently grabbed a boy for talking in line which caused the boy to fall down the stone steps resulting in broken bones. I agree that kids need to be corrected but beatings were something I witnessed and had at home due to a violent step father, so I believe that kind of punishment goes on to cause resentment I'm far from siding with the soft approach but I've seen how it can be the cause of some of the aggression too my brother has been in and out due to this but I'm not making excuses for any monsters behavior.

@robertparkinson6919 I understand what you are calling for and why you must be feeling so but I cannot agree to a mandatory life sentence for carrying a bladed item. I truly believe a lot of youth are carrying because they are afraid for their lives rather than intent on harm. It's tricky because we definitely need to find a way to stop it but mandatory life seems too harsh. Would be a start though to find and use a stiffer sentence for possession and increasingly stiffer sentence for brandishing, threatening and intimidation. Use should definitely carry a lengthy term. We need to engage and educate our youth before it becomes this problem, there isn't a quick easy fix but making examples of convicted ppl will send a strong message and act as somewhat of a deterrent.

The head of the probation service, not sure if it relates to England & Wales only, has come out and said that some of those being released will be out committing more crimes. This is how our probation determins how safe people are to be released.

Well it seems that this "boy" is a danger to the public and that is proved and admitted in TWO incidents in less than 24 hours. I remember from school that some 15 year olds are as big as and as strong as grown men. At 14 years old most boys are "fully developed" physically.
