Ha Ha. Yes that's what I hear. My only Seiko 5 is a SBSA009 Japan model so the chapter ring and bezel markings are aligned pretty well. That's why I specifically ordered SBSA009 instead of SRPD59 in hopes QC would be better with Japan models. Ordered from Amazon Japan and only paid a few dollars more vs SRPD59. Shipped from Japan to US in about 1 week. I have a review on my channel.
Seiko, Casio, Orient, Tissot and fashion brands like Armani, Tommy, Boss will always be in high demand. Both for snobs and casual wearers. The higher the demand, higher the number of counterfeits specially in second hand market. They sell is as real deal and it’s hard not to buy when you think you’re getting a $200 real deal for measly $50! While it may appear to be an obvious scam, some just went to try the watch regardless of authentic.
The markings are slightly different since the Orange watch is "Made In Japan" model. It states "Japan" on the rotor which causes a difference in the spacing of the printing encircling the rotor bearing but I think this might replicate original 4R36A that are not Japan models. Upon closer inspection with a 10x loupe, you are correct. There appears to be a thin plate on the rotor. Honestly it's very well executed and not really noticeable without magnification. You can also see a difference in the 3 spots where the original rotor is "riveted" to the counterweight. The fake tries to replicate the 3 "rivets" but they are not as the original.
@@mtbbiker6401 it's been a while so they've probably improved in quality. I was also handling the movement directly since the SKX doesn't have a display caseback and I was intend on modding it. It's good to know that there a more differences to the real watch though!
@@orangeyellow-me1pz I do wonder if the NH35/36 has been cloned in China in order to sell these watches so inexpensively. It amazes me that quality watches (Steeldive, etc) can be purchased in the $50 USD price range with a supposedly authentic TMI NH35 movement. I'm not sure where authentic TMI/Seiko movements are made. My SBSA009 4R36A is made in Japan (at least according to rotor markings) but I believe the other movements are possibly made in Malaysia.
Here in Europe the real ones are selling for €340 euro or $370 dollars ….. I have even seen the green one going for €10 euro more than the other colours. So they have either risen in value or Seiko dealers are just adding inflation to the RRP …. Aliexpress are sell Quarts Seiko 5 Sports for just under €50 euro, while the case and bracelet look identical you are not getting a Seiko movement.
Retail in USA is $325usd. You can find online for $250. Jomashop has SRPD61K1 for $190. Not sure difference between SRPD61 vs K1 version. Looks the same. The one in video is from ali has a NH36 which is made by TMI. Correct, not Seiko 4R36A but NH36A. The movement looks legitimate unless it is a clone.
U missed the part where arrow mark on the rotating bezel end inwards on the original. Also the lume markers looks like fux fabric on closer inspection which really hard to achieve.
Yes, you are correct about the arrow on the rotating bezel but it's kind of hard to see without a loupe. The texture on the lume of both watches actually look about the same under 10x magnification. I don't see a fabric pattern on the authentic watch, both just looks like grainy texture.
The margins are probably still really good for them on cheaper watches like Seikos. If they use the standard Chinese movement. Plus, a lot of homages (Like Cadisen 62MAS), and I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the replicas (although I don't know), actually use the Seiko NH35 movement that would be used in these Seiko 5s anyway.
Many of the homage watches use the TMI NH35 & NH36 movements which are non-branded Seiko 4R35/36 movements. Most of the cheaper replicas still use DG2813 movements.
So I recently bought a seiko 5, it has that seam in the bracelet that you mentioned and the number mentioned behind d the case is if the same watch. I’m just paranoid because I found out that the shop I bought it from is infamous for selling fakes. Not all, but it has been in controversy more than once. How do I 100% confirm its authenticity?
I suspect if you see the "seam" in the bracelet link then it is authentic. I haven't seen this replicated in fake watches yet. Also on the bracelet clasp, when you look at the hinge assembly under the clasp there is a pin holding the hinge together (see 1:40 in my video to compare). The fake has a head on the pin similar to a rivet, but the authentic watch (on right) has a pin without a head. Also on the clasp, the fold over safety clasp (part with Seiko logo), the side is brushed not polished. On my fake watch, the side is polished. Regarding the watch itself, they are really close. One tell is how the triangle on the bezel insert is printed. On authentic watches, the triangle slightly folds over onto the inner side edge of the bezel insert. The fakes do not do this but you might need a loupe to see it. I'd say if the bracelet is authentic, then most likely the entire watch is authentic as well.
Also if you look at the watch case itself at 1:40 in the video, look at the profile of the lug shape (where the lugs holes are drilled). The authentic watch on right is a little more blunted and straight while the fake on the left is more curved and rounded.

They tick the same 6 beats per second. They basically have the exact same automatic movement.
