The paint definitely reads a navy blue on camera, but it is GORGEOUS! And goes perfectly with the cabinet hardware and lighting fixtures! Can't wait to see the next stage =)
According to the light, it either looks deep gray or navy. Whichever it really is, both colors look great with sage green. If it really looks navy, I hope it is a happy accident that leaves you satisfied.
I think it's definitely a bit of a gray-ish navy. It has a blue undertone which as you mentioned goes good with the sage but has a grayness about it that makes it fall right inline with its namesake.
I really like it! On my phone, at least, it definitely looks more like a navy/dark gray than black but I think that over the dark wood cabinets actually opens the room a bit. This is great inspiration for what can be done when you don’t have the funds/desire to rip cabinets out and start over. Sustainability for the win!
I agree! I actually wasn't a fan of the back splash but with this dark color I feel like it actually goes perfect with it... I wouldn't even change the wooden tones on the island, it all just fits so perfect! I personally preferred lighter cabinets but this makeover changed my mind!
Your fearlessness when it comes to using color in your spaces and projects is one of the reasons I love coming back to this channel. Love the black cabinet choice. It’s truly stunning.
Freaking out! I’ve done a TON of cabinets in my day and I have to say the more prep, the more durable. The cabinets that have lasted years chip free were the ones I washed with TPS solution, sanded, primed and painted (2 coats) then sealed with oil based poly (2 coats). I’ve always used top shelf paint for cabinets with a lacquer additive. Any others went to hell in a hand basket within a year….fingers crossed and good luck!
There is actually a moment in part 2 of this makeover where the durability really shows its true colours. Totally worth getting a primo paint for the kitchen 👌👌👌👌
Having painted my cabinets before I agree with this advice 100%. It’s definitely worth the headache and cost to prep and use the expensive paint made for cabinets. I painted ours 8 years ago when we moved into our house and they are only just starting to show a bit of wear and chipping.
Same. I painted my island and thought I prepped well enough and did all my follow up steps you mentioned but 2 years later I see chips in the areas I didn’t take more care in. Other than that it’s held up beautifully. Clean. Sanded. Cleaned again. Primed. Painted. Sealed.
I think any darker would be too dark. This gray is just dark enough to be you but still suit a farmhouse. My favorite color is yellow which is not always a good idea for a whole room. But I’m planning an accent wall for my bedroom - don’t tell my husband!
I am curious what shade of yellow you're going to do? I love the marigold/sunflower yellow! And as far as disrupting sleep, I imagine if your room is dark enough (and your eyes are closed), you'd never be able to tell you have a yellow wall!
It's so hard to tell in video, sometimes they looked Navy and sometimes they looked black. Either way it's a beautiful job. I wish paint colors would tell you the undertones, that would totally help. This is a black with blue, this is a black with gray and so on. I can wait to see the rest. Would you spray again?
I have what we call a 5 car garage size kitchen… 32 cabinets, 22 drawers… I just recently painted cabinets black and with brass hardware! The best decision I ever made. My husband and I live on the original 3500 sq foot home on the farm and it’s my favorite place in the world. 😍😍

Hi Danie! Jumped into my time machine and went back to this wonderful kitchen makeover! You may ask, "why"? Well, FINALLY getting to the 👉kitchen makeover👈! Have already removed all the old cabinets and bought oak cabinets,(did not pay full price, searched out cabinets with small, hidden, never to be seen defects and wow! What a savings!!), Chose a dark joco bean stain and couldn't be happier with the moody dark outcome! Just needed a boost of confidence so I dropped in for a visit and soaked up some of your positive energy!! YEEEEESSSSS! I can do this!! Thanks for sharing your ideas and helpful tips!! Hope you have an amazing day!!....on to part 2 for deco ideas!!💗
Yes ma'am! Elegant. I redid my 1907 very small kitchen last summer, so you got me -- I'm spellbound :). And I love that you are going to use butcher block for counter top -- that will alter the cabinet color a bit. Love it, love it, love it.
Beautiful. It’s so refreshing to see such attention to detail in terms of the meticulous planning and preparation, which in turn, made the painting a cinch. Most importantly, though, is having a friend like Jess to help make it happen.
Yay the hair color is back!!!!!! Oh the opener with the nails doesn’t bother me, but makes me laugh. I love you because you don’t play it safe. Creme de La creme that means the paint is expensive lol. My art teacher called a little group of us his creme de La creme, brings back such fond memories.
When I saw the color on the beginning all I could think was it’s SO dark. The after though….it’s stunning 🤩 can’t wait to see the other updates in part 2! Beautiful job!
That's going to really give you a sharp-looking kitchen, Danie. Can't wait until next week's video comes out! As for what color I'm leaning towards for my kitchen: a light-to-medium shade of sage green, so let's call it Laurel Tree.
Absolutely love the color of the cabinets!! The way the light plays with the color leaves you with a nuanced look that is warm and inviting and goes so well with the sage green and the appliances.
Another fantastic job! I so look forward to Saturday mornings with you. I love to see what "we" will get into next and I am never disappointed! Keep up the great job, Danie.
It looks amazing, and im happy that the color does look good with the existing recent paint updates. You are right though, it does look like a deep navy, odd, but beautiful and fits your kitchen well.
Bestie!! One word … STUNNING! Love the paint choice! On my phone it comes off a bit navyier (lol) than a charcoal gray would but it’s still a stunner. Can’t wait for the final look! Loved the search for coffee dance, I feel like if we knew each other irl we’d totally vibe! 💕

It looks fantastic! It looks like a very dark navy to me - the backsplash looks so much better against this compared to the red wood. So excited to see it all done!!
WOW 👏 🤩 absolutely gorgeous. Love the color, on my phone it looks like dark navy in som angles and black in some. It fits with sage green so well. I would choose the same to my cabinets because my kitchen walls are turquoise.
WOW!! What a difference some paint and few pieces of glass will make!! It doesn't even look like the same kitchen! You did a marvelous job Danie and Jess!!
No matter what the color looks like in any lighted situation , it’s really a lovely kitchen cabinet makeover. I think it goes really well with your older home. Great job!

Love this, Dani! I painted my cabinets (white) last year and I was so nervous to do it, but it's turned out to be one of my favorite DIY updates in my house. Also, I'm happy you embrace mixed metals.
I love the Cracked Pepper paint. I’m actually doing an accent wall using the same color in my bathroom. Your kitchen is gorgeous , and I look forward to part 2. TFS😊

Honestly, it is your kitchen so..... it is a personal preference with the color you choose. You have a wonderful eye for color so I have an idea that this makeover will be fabulous 😊
I painted my kitchen walls cracked pepper 2 years ago. I have white cabinets and black hardware. It looks stunning. Love all your designs. keep on doing what you do.
I love the color. It's rich without being too dark. However, I would've put the ribbed side of the glass on the inside, purely because the flat side is easier to clean and the outside will get dirtier. Can't wait for part 2 😁
I love what we have seen so far. The cabinets are gorgeous! You certainly put a lot of time and effort into the project! I look forward what you do on next Saturday's video! 😁👍
First I had to stop being amazed at all the storage space in your kitchen! Wow! I think your paint choice is great. Wonderful job on the finish too. I love the whole idea of it. There was only one other color on that pallet I would have looked twice at....that sage green. Very pretty. The ribbed glass was genius.
The kitchen came out so good!!! An you should get those little felt or rubber pads that you put on the doors of cabinet just so the paint doesn’t scratch from the back
As someone who has black kitchen cabinets I love this! Nice to see someone put in the work and do it the right way. Painting kitchen cabinets is not something you can cut corners on
Great job! The colour does have a navy undertone but still looks amazing. I felt you were hoping for it to be more on the black side but still looks great. I suggest adding glass shelves inside the ribbed glass cabinets.
I went full screen for the reveal. That color is everything. Great job, your fearless approach is inspiring. The pulls are exactly the right choice for the color if that makes sense...
The transformation is beautiful. I do see a "hint" of blue when the light hits in a certain way but it is gorgeous. I'd definitely use cracked pepper to paint my cabinets. I love how it shows off the hardware and all the other metals in the kitchen! Very sophisticated!
The paint definitely reads a navy blue on camera, but it is GORGEOUS! And goes perfectly with the cabinet hardware and lighting fixtures! Can't wait to see the next stage =)

The paint color is reading as a deep midnight blue....which is beautiful. Great job! Love it!!
I absolutely love the color, that it isnt a pure black but has this blue tone to it !! Can't wait to see the full reveal !!!!!! 😍
I absolutely love the color! You can see the blue undertones but I don't think it clashes with the sage at all. It's gorgeous!
We definitely need a Dani & Alexander episode very soon.
I actually love the blue undertone in the black. Makes it vibrant! Love it!
Honestly, I love the way the cracked pepper looks! Wouldn't change a thing.
BRAVO! 👏🏻 The color is PERFECT!!! I LOVE this color. Rich, smooth, calming, clean, it’s GORGEOUS!!🥰❤️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Colour is superb! The kitchen looks so elegant!
Let me say just how much I love my Saturday mornings with you❤️❤️ …….and how envious I am of how many cabinets you have! They turned our beautifully.
The color is much more gorgeous than I thought it was going to be but you're right it's very blue I love it
The cabinets look beautiful. It looks like a brand new kitchen.
Holy Cow! That is gorgeous! I can’t imagine how you could have done that project without Jess! Bravo!👍🇨🇦⭐️
I think the color blends super well with your green. At least on camera it looks absolutely amazing!
I believe the cool tone/warm tone mix is just right…especially when you change the countertops!
I went full screen for the reveal. That color is everything. Great job, your fearless approach is inspiring. The pulls are exactly the right choice for the color if that makes sense...
Whatever color it is, it’s really beautiful. I bet it goes well with the green too!
The transformation is beautiful. I do see a "hint" of blue when the light hits in a certain way but it is gorgeous. I'd definitely use cracked pepper to paint my cabinets. I love how it shows off the hardware and all the other metals in the kitchen! Very sophisticated!
Love the colour, I like that it’s throwing a little more blue as it looks great with the sage green features in the other area. Can’t wait for part 2
