To explain the “card I can’t mention” that I talked about in the video because I’ve received a few comments about it. The videos here on my channel are 100% free and always will be. The goal of these videos is to educate as many people as possible about credit cards, points and miles, and smart money habits. In order to make the best possible content, I dedicate countless hours every week to research and write these videos all by myself. I also pay an editor who is much better at editing videos and helps to make them high quality. To make any money to support this free content, myself and other creators look to other forms of monetizing such as UA-cam ads, sponsors, and affiliate marketing to name a few. For this channel, affiliate marketing is obviously a big part of that and comes in the form of affiliate links that are often in the descriptions of my videos. These affiliate links lead viewers to websites that allow them to sign up for certain products like credit cards. When that happens, that information is tracked and I receive a commission for someone signing up for that credit card. These links are 100% optional and I actually encourage anyone that uses them to check those links as well as any other public offers to find the best deals and the best sign up bonuses for themselves. There is a disclaimer for this in the description of every video as well and I try to be open about how this stuff works. In this video, I mentioned 10 credit cards that made this list (plus the bonus credit card that I couldn’t mention by name). Only 3 of these cards were able to be directly linked to with these affiliate links based on what I have access to at the moment. These 3 affiliate links can be found in the video description. For the remaining 7 credit cards and 1 bonus credit card, I do not have direct affiliate links for those. I do have a link to a general credit card page where offers for some other cards may be available, so I post that link in the description as well. The challenge with the 1 credit card and issuer that I couldn’t mention here is that they are strictly not allowed to be mentioned in videos where I am monetizing with these affiliate links at the moment. This is NOT due to other credit card issuers paying me to not mention them, but rather due to restrictions in place because this issuer does not work with affiliate networks the same way. So basically, I can either mention this 1 credit card by name and not post affiliate links for the other cards in a video like this - or I can post affiliate links for the other cards and just mention the features of the unnamed card without saying the name. I decided to try out that second option in this video because the affiliate links are an important part of helping my channel to operate from the revenue that they generate. I could have left out that unnamed card entirely, but I felt like most people would call out that this card was missing and should have made the list. So I wanted to at least reference it because it truly is one of the best cash back credit cards on the market, especially for beginners. This is the first time that I tested out mentioning this unnamed card like this, so usually I just say the name and then leave out affiliate links (like this video here from last month: ua-cam.com/video/hZL6yvJ3a2o/v-deo.html) These restrictions with affiliate links are always changing and are one of the challenges that I try to navigate as best as I can. Many of the credit cards that I mentioned here will actually generate $0 in revenue for me anyway (for example I do not receive commissions for the PayPal Mastercard, Citi cards, and Wells Fargo cards at the moment). All cards that made this list in this video were determined without revenue in mind. Believe me, there are plenty of other really bad credit cards from bad issuers that would pay me more, but I will never include those cards on these lists. I also NEVER accept upfront payments from any 1 credit card issuer to talk about them more favorably than another. I have no direct contact with anyone at any of these credit card companies, and any money I make from credit card links comes on the back end from the affiliate commissions through third party affiliate networks that I am a part of. This is the first time that I have referenced this card in that way because I have seen other content creators refer to it the same way. But in the future to avoid any further confusion, what I am going to do is just not post affiliate links in videos where this card is talked about by name. That way I can just freely discuss the benefits of this card without worrying about breaking compliance rules. Hopefully all of that makes sense because I want this channel to be the most transparent resource for credit card and personal finance content. I will be making an income breakdown video in the near future to discuss this kind of stuff in more detail. As always I can’t say thank you enough to all of you that watch and support my channel! Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me on IG or via the email on my channel page if you want to learn more about how I run things. I want this to be an open community of like-minded people! 👍 -Daniel
Thanks… I had no clue there was some rules with not mentioning that particular card by name. It’s a solid no af card though. What’s a good where would you put the Fidelity credit card on the list? There is a $150 signup bonus with a specific link.
I get that well explained Daniel. Great job with this explanation. Makes sense. Keep up the great videos, they are really well thought out and helpful.
I honestly respect Daniel for bringing up the mystery card (the Discover It Cashback). The card is not in his affiliate network, which is partly how credit card creators make their living, but he mentioned it anyway because it’s a good card and wanted people to know about it. I saw some people in the comments wondering what’s going on, or why he would do that. From a fellow creator’s perspective he’s trying to do everyone a favor by mentioning a card that doesn’t benefit him at all to mention.
Thank you so much Ethan! Yeah that is exactly it! They are basically the only issuer that I can't mention by name with the affiliate network that I'm a part of. Other creators have had a similar issue and presented the card in a similar way. This is the first time that I haven't mentioned the card by name because usually I will just opt to not include the affiliate links which allows me to say the name. But like you said, the affiliate links are a big part of not only how I make a living, but also how I keep things running with the expenses I have for this channel. I tried to balance the affiliate links with referencing the unnamed card here. I obviously couldn't just completely ignore the card because it's still such a good one that had to be included! I tried to do the best that I could with what I have available to me, but in the future I think I'm just going to avoid the affiliate links in upcoming videos where I talk about the card. It'll eliminate the potential affiliate revenue, but I think that might be best for keeping everything not so confusing for the audience. As a fellow creator, thank you for helping to explain the situation Ethan! Truly appreciate you and the awesome content you've been putting out there for the credit card UA-cam community! 👍
@@Daniel_Braun of course man! I was surprised to see people giving you a hard time about it when it was honestly just a stand-up move on your part to benefit the viewer. The challenge is that it takes a lot of explaining for everyone to understand, which either takes up valuable time in a video or takes a lot of explaining in the comments, but hopefully people just realize that for credit card UA-camrs it’s all about giving people good information, and that’s how we succeed. We only talk about cards that are good because that’s what helps people, there’s not really anything else to it. If we can make an affiliate income from it then great, but first and foremost we have to make good content, which is exactly what you were doing. Gotta give you credit for that!
I get 4% cash back on gas at Costco using the Costco Citi Visa card. It's more savings than 5% cash back on gas using other credit cards at other gas stations because Costco usually has the best gas prices to begin with.
I can definitely see myself picking up a few of these cards down the line. Even though I'm all in on team travel right now, the simplicity of a cash-back setup sounds nice sometimes. And side note: those credit union cards are super underrated too! Great video as always Daniel 👊🏼
Even as a travel/points focused card user, I still have a couple of cash back cards on this list and they're great! Cashback sometimes is the better way to go depending on where you are in your journey! Great video Daniel!
Love this list Daniel! The Chase Freedom Cards are always two of my favorite Cash-Back Cards, but there has been a lot of buzz for Cards like the Savor One (for good reason) as part of the Cap One Duo so love to see that Card here on the list as well. I personally don't have the Custom Cash, but get a ton of value out of it as my Gas Station Card within my 2 Player Setup with my wife. Great video as always Daniel!
I love it as a part of my credit card setup! Here’s a video I did about it: The Bilt Mastercard - 1 Year Later (My Honest Review) ua-cam.com/video/CiO94AiJbAM/v-deo.html
great video as always, daniel! love the flexibility of the chase freedom cards being able to be travel points-earning cards for some and simple cash-back cards for others. although i'm team travel over cash back, i definitely still rotate some cash back cards in my wallet every now and then!
@@willw9898it’s only cash back no way to transfer or use points for other things. But it is a fire card for beginners. Also there’s cards like the custom cash or the freedom flex both 5% cards like the discover except they also earn point that can be transferred for travel. Just for extra info yes cards like the savor and double/custom cash are also just cash back cards but having other cards like the Venture (capital one) or Premier (citi) allow you to use points from those cards towards Travel. Discover doesn’t have that from what I’ve seen.
Hi Daniel! Thank you so much for always giving us straightforward and informative content. You've changed my game plan on how I use my credit cards and I have better control over my finances!
Annoying the Citi Custom Cash doesn't work at Costco Gas because it's a Mastercard though. I was so annoyed when I realized that at the Pump the other day. The Costco Citi card might deserve to be on the list for this reason.
I get 4% cash back on gas at Costco using the Costco Citi Visa card. It's more savings than 5% cash back on gas using other credit cards (such as the Citi Custom Cash) at other gas stations because Costco usually has the best gas prices to begin with (Costco only accepts Visa credit cards).
THE BIGGEST PROBLEM I see with these card discounts for GROCERY STORES is that MOST of them DO NOT INCLUDE stores like Walmart, Sam's Club, Costco BUT they DO NOT NAME the stores they DO consider, have only seen Kroger mentioned What about SAVE-A-LOT, ALDI, PUBLIX, DOLLAR STORE, DOLLAR GENERAL, WINN-DIXIE ???
Most cards will count Walmart Neighborhood Market as a "grocery store", but not the supercenter. As for Sam's Club and Costco, they're considered warehouse outlet. A work around is using the AMEX Blue Cash Everyday, you're eligible to get the 3% rewards from U.S. Online Retail Purchases just by ordering for in-store pickup, through the Sam's, Walmart, or Costco websites.
Great Video …. ? What Cash back Card Do You RecommendTo Pay Property Tax …. I Was Thinking The Citi Custom Cash , But I Heard That I Won’t Get The 5% Cash Back …
The Freedom Flex is a good card, but sometimes the categories aren't very good. Q4'23 as an example isn't great. Chase can do better. Thanks for the video Dan, especially for those on Team Cash Back.
I am watching this video to compare Mexican credit cards and american credit cards and american are way better; most of them with a sign up bonus and no annual fee, that is amazing!
Personally, I don't like the U.S. Bank Cash+ credit card for the following three reasons but I really can't think of any other credit card which gives 5% cashback on utilities and most people have at least one utility expense in one form or another. 1) A minor drawback with this card is that if you want a cashback redemption, you have to have a U.S. Bank account, otherwise you'll have to settle for a statement credit. 2) A medium drawback with this card is that there's a $25 minimum redemption. 3) A major drawback with this card is that your cashback rewards expire after 3 years. I see this as a major drawback because for example, if you've earned $5 in cashback and a better cashback card comes along, you either have to keep using this card until you reach the $25 minimum redemption or lose your $5 earned cashback if you don't intend to use this card after 3 years.
Great video as always Daniel! All the cards in this video definitely can provide some immense value! Even though I tend to prefer cards that earns points or miles the overall simplicity and ease of use when it comes to some of these cash back cards is awesome to have👍
Do any of these cash back cards allow you to take your reward out as actual cash to be deposited in your bank account instead of simply receiving them as a statement credit?
Good video, I am definitely more of a cashback setup kinda person than a travel set up person. I just found it strange how he could mention every card on this list but /not/ the Discover it Cashback Card. A great card, mind you, where a student Discover it card (specifically the Chrome Card) was actually my first card. The cashback match at the end of the year is great. I was reading other comments to understand why he couldn't name it, and I finally found a place where he wrote a long excerpt explaining essentially nothing as to why he couldn't say it. Something about... compliance, with affiliate link issuers, or something. Are they that scared about Discover taking away sales from them? They know people can have multiple credit cards, right? I just don't understand. Regardless, strange, but I do appreciate the fact that he basically added it to the list without really adding it, which isn't necessarily fair for the great Discover it card(s), but of course it makes the list, it's a great cashback card. Love the customer service and app associated with the card, too.
Hey thank you so much for watching and commenting! Yeah I just posted another pinned comment as well to hopefully explain the situation in more detail. Yeah I got it too. 3% on most used category, 2% for next, +1% everything else... And getting it back in either crypto or cash is great. Though because 3% is only for one category, I'll still need other cards for other categories 😂 I mainly spend on travel, dining, and groceries
Amazing video but I just wanted to note Im actually being offered a $150 gift card for the Amazon Visa if you apply on Amazon, and Ive been offered more in the past :) I think it depends on how much you've spent on prime before getting the card. Ive been a prime member for a at least a year without actually getting the card and have spent thousands.
So you’re telling me I can go through all the trouble of spending extra money just to get cash back to equal about $500/yr with some of these cards? I could just work a few extra shifts and not spend JUST to get the benefits of a credit card and save even more money. Yes makes alot of sense.
Dude, you need to explain why you aren't allowed to even mention the name of that one card. Otherwise you just come off as some shady corporate shill who got paid off by some big bank to advertise one card over another. For those of you who don't know, that card he can't mention is the Discover it Cash Back card.
If he could have talked about it, he clearly would have by now. Discover is the only credit card I’ve seen on youtube that certain UA-camrs aren’t even mentioned to talk about it while others can
Thanks for pointing out the card! And the reason I can’t mention it is because the affiliate network I work with has compliance rules in place. There’s not many restrictions, but that one issuer cannot be mentioned as of right now when there are affiliate links in that video. I obviously want to be 100% transparent, but I can’t explain every detail about the business side of this UA-cam channel in just this one video which is already over 17 minutes long. I will actually be making a full income breakdown of how this channel makes money because I want this to be transparent! Other creators have addressed talking about this issuer in a similar way which is why I presented the card like that quickly here in this video. If there are not affiliate links used for a certain video, then I can mention it by name. Kind of annoying to work around like that, but affiliate income is vital to keep this free content continuing here on my channel so that’s what had to be done here in this video. Hopefully that explains better, but I want to be clear that I do not accept upfront payments from any credit card issuer to promote one credit card over another. All affiliate commissions are made on the backend from viewers who chose to use my links to apply for new cards. Totally optional and I think it’s a good system that allows me to give my honest opinions about what I like and don’t like about all credit cards I talk about 👍
@@Daniel_Braun Thanks for the reply! So basically Amex said you can't mention their competitor in any of your videos. NGL, when your channel is about giving unbiased reviews of credit cards (to people who are likely very new to credit) and a bank is paying you to not mention their competitor, it really does look like a glaring conflict of interest.
Just to be clear, I do not work directly with any credit card issuer. No credit card issuer tells me that I can’t mention another one. Myself and all other content creators work with third party affiliate networks that give us links to all cards and the income from those affiliate links are crucial to run my channel. There is pretty much 1 issuer that I can’t mention in a video like this because of compliance rules that this issuer has in place. I still wanted to at least mention that issuer here by referencing it without the name because I really really like that card and I’ve mentioned it in countless other videos. I could have completely ignored the card, but I did want to still reference it knowing that people would point it out in the comment section for beginners to learn about. I’m truly trying to do my best to present all info possible, but if you would prefer that I don’t use affiliate links then let me know because I will consider what is best for the quality of the channel in the future. Again I’m trying to create content in the best way possible to help the most people - so wishing you and all viewers all the best! I think you should have mentioned why you "Couldn't mention Discover" for "compliance reasons" I know you don't read these and don't care about us who watch your channel.. but it allows us to know you're being paid not only by youtube, who has upped our fees to watch this on premium, but also other credit cards, that can shut you up and make you a puppet to them..

Thanks! This makes sense. Appreciate the transparency. Keep up the good work!
@@alolansandshrew1756 Thanks for understanding! I want to be fully transparent about all of this so I appreciate you taking the time to read that!
My favorite cash back card right now is the the Citi custom cash as I use it for only gas and gas is expensive currently. So helps to get 5% cash back
That's exactly what I'm using mine for.
I get 4% cash back on gas at Costco using the Costco Citi Visa card. It's more savings than 5% cash back on gas using other credit cards at other gas stations because Costco usually has the best gas prices to begin with.
Same!
Cash back cards is also a good way to earn cash that can be used for those cards with annual fees.
I just got the Citi DC and it’s offering $200 cash back after $1,500 in purchases in the first 6 months!
Hey Daniel, what do you think of Bilt Credit card?
I love it as a part of my credit card setup! Here’s a video I did about it: The Bilt Mastercard - 1 Year Later (My Honest Review)
ua-cam.com/video/CiO94AiJbAM/v-deo.html
great video as always, daniel! love the flexibility of the chase freedom cards being able to be travel points-earning cards for some and simple cash-back cards for others. although i'm team travel over cash back, i definitely still rotate some cash back cards in my wallet every now and then!
Discover It is the card that must not be named! 🤣🤣🤣
😂 you got it!
Great card though so I had to reference
I love my discover it, it’s hard to beat 5% back on a no AF card. What’s the reason so many UA-camrs can’t mention it?
Rotated my screen and got the answer I was looking for !
The Wells Fargo cards are so good
I am grateful I have the top 2 credit cards!!!
Just got my Amex blue cash everyday
Did it live up to your expectations ? I was also interested in getting one when I turn 18
Haha great list ! I keep it simple I use the citi double cash & citi custom cash .
You should look at the Cash Plus Visa Signature Card from US Bank
THE BIGGEST PROBLEM I see with these card discounts for GROCERY STORES is that MOST of them DO NOT INCLUDE stores like Walmart, Sam's Club, Costco
BUT they DO NOT NAME the stores they DO consider, have only seen Kroger mentioned
What about SAVE-A-LOT, ALDI, PUBLIX, DOLLAR STORE, DOLLAR GENERAL, WINN-DIXIE ???
Wow... that's scumbaggish
I Was Thinking The Citi Custom Cash , But I Heard That I Won’t Get The 5% Cash Back …
I’m more team travel but I’m a freedom flex guy for sure
The Freedom Flex is a good card, but sometimes the categories aren't very good. Q4'23 as an example isn't great. Chase can do better. Thanks for the video Dan, especially for those on Team Cash Back.
The CFF is definitely overrated, yet every influencer continues to hawk it.
Q4 2023 for the Chase Freedom Flex was great because it included PayPal which I easily maxed out as most people do.
Great vid. Time stamps would be amazing tho
Sorry about that, I’ll add some because I agree! 👍
Thanks for watching!
I am watching this video to compare Mexican credit cards and american credit cards and american are way better; most of them with a sign up bonus and no annual fee, that is amazing!
Always well done. 💯
I really appreciate it, thanks for watching!
Is the US bank Cash plus not good? I have never heard you mention it before from the videos I’ve watched.
It's great. I just got it because other credit card UA-camrs mention it. Sad that this one doesn't seem to be on top of things.
Even though I tend to prefer cards that earns points or miles the overall simplicity and ease of use when it comes to some of these cash back cards is awesome to have👍
Can You Make A Video Showing What The Best Cash Back Video For Property Tax …. And Best Cash Back Card For Utilities
Do any of these cash back cards allow you to take your reward out as actual cash to be deposited in your bank account instead of simply receiving them as a statement credit?
Great piece of content sir. Keep up the amazing work.
Great Video!
Thanks Alejandro!
Awesome video, looking forward to adding more and more to my lineup!
❤❤❤ Cashback. Can’t go wrong with that.
Thanks for the video, very informative.
Do points from the Chase Amazon card transfer to other Chase cards?
Really good video. Nice job.
PNC cash rewards card does 4% gas
No issuer is paying me to not talk about another issuer so I want to be clear about that, but I'll copy the pinned comment below here if you want to read more about it.
This is the first time that I tested out mentioning this unnamed card like this, so usually I just say the name and then leave out affiliate links (like this video here from last month: ua-cam.com/video/hZL6yvJ3a2o/v-deo.html)
These restrictions with affiliate links are always changing and are one of the challenges that I try to navigate as best as I can.
Yeah I got it too. 3% on most used category, 2% for next, +1% everything else... And getting it back in either crypto or cash is great.
Though because 3% is only for one category, I'll still need other cards for other categories 😂 I mainly spend on travel, dining, and groceries

Biggest thing is not being able to transfer points with Wells Fargo. Makes capital one a lot more desirable for a lot of people solely because of that

First comment again! Thanks as always 👍
But doesn’t PayPal charge you a 2.9% transaction fee? Doesn’t that defeat the purpose?
Um no. What?
Totally optional and I think it’s a good system that allows me to give my honest opinions about what I like and don’t like about all credit cards I talk about 👍
I wonder if he's getting compensation from another bank, and they told him that he can't mention Discover.
