Drunk Entitled Princess Kicks & Screams at Deputies After Ditch Crash!

- On May 11th, 2024, deputies in Ohio were called to a white Jeep that had driven into a ditch off the roadway and couldn’t drive out. Deputies approached the vehicle and talked to the female driver, who appeared to be intoxicated. The driver explained she had gotten stuck and needed help to get her car out. Upon further questioning, the driver told the deputy she had been to two parks and wanted to head home, later admitting to drinking beer earlier that night.
After the deputy had identified the woman by her driver’s license, he asked her to exit her vehicle and walk towards the deputy’s car. The driver told the deputy she would be willing to perform Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs). As the deputy conducted the SFSTs, the driver became increasingly agitated and began shouting back instructions, struggling to perform the tests. The situation escalated as the driver walked off from the deputies, stating she refused to continue the tests. Deputies placed the suspect under arrest for OVI as she began arguing and shouting at the deputies.
As deputies walked the suspect toward the cruiser, she continued to shout and resist. The suspect attempted to open the cruiser door, lashing out as the deputies intervened. Deputies placed the suspect in the cruiser as she began kicking the interior of the vehicle. The suspect was later transported to jail for further processing. The suspect was charged with two counts of Felony Assault, Harassment with a Bodily Substance, OVI, Failure To Control, and Driving In Marked Lanes.

This combination I've seen & dealt with over the years. It is no picnic, that is for sure.
When she said that it was obvious to me she was drunk. She provided more evidence during the test when the cops told her to put her left foot in front and then continued walking.

Then police should do a better job conducting FSTs properly:
- She was asked if she wore contacts. She said yes, and the officer failed to ask if they were hard or soft (which makes a HUGE difference to the results of the horizontal gaze nystagmus test). Hard wearers generally, but not always, have an astigmatism, and will fail that test EVERY TIME.
- She was never asked if she was willing to participate in the testing. It was made to sound as though the testing was a lawful order, and she was not given the opportunity to decline.
- She was a total douchebag, was clearly intoxicated, and needs to be taken off the road. But the officer destroyed the case by not following the most basic of procedures.
As a result, all of the charges will eventually be dropped by prosecution, as all of the evidence is "fruit of the poisonous tree" collected by a poorly trained cop that doesn't know how to follow a long-proven, dependable methodology. Book it.
@@fafoYT you’re probably right in this case where a good lawyer could get the case dismissed on the grounds you laid out. But the larger issue from the OP is correct: Our judicial system must do better as so many of these drunk drivers and petty criminals continue to get the proverbial slap on the wrist and go right back to their bad behavior. We need real teeth in our punishment or nothing with change.

With all the tech we have, we don't have preliminary PBTs readily available for traffic cops and in every squad/cruiser, and I've seen procedural mistakes in FSTs in about 50% of the DWI vids that I've watched (that's a TERRIBLE rate). Since there seems to be no interest in going straight to PBTs by the people that handle the purse strings, cops need to be properly trained so prosecutors can be given even a fair chance at arguing the case. Convictions would ramp up dramatically. This is really a legislative problem, and is equally spread among all 50 states, so it's not political, either.

Blaming Mom and Dad has become a stock comment on these types of videos. It's an unoriginal comment, and it might not be accurate. As a teacher, I've met many capable parents with unmanageable kids. I've also met parents who need parenting lessons who nevertheless raised great kids. Of course, there are bad parents who raise bad kids. It's really complicated. We don't know what went on with parenting from an arrest video.

I have family in law enforcement. 90% of the "field sobriety test" is seeing how well someone can follow the directions. They understand that some people are PHYSICALLY uncoordinated and could not perform SOME of the tests, so there are several, most of which require clear THINKING. Plus it helps if you are not chewing a fresh piece of gum and don't reek of alcohol.
I have balance and depth perception issues. I don't drink, but I'd have trouble is faced with those tests.
I've had to explain this way too many times. Much of it is can the person actually shut up for the 2 minutes it takes to explain the test, wait until they're told to start, and then actually comprehend and follow those directions. And the fact that they aren't just giving FST to random people for fun. If someone is asked to do it, it's because there are already signs of impairment suspected. So if you can't balance well sober, you don't have tonworry since it's highly unlikely you'll ever be asked to perform it.
I am glad I read this. I don't drink and drive, but I am a mother of 4 working the grave yard shift. My mom jokes that I can't chew gum and walk at the same time. I have tripped over my own feet. Watching these videos, I said to myself the cops will pull me over on a day with me just having 3 hours of sleep, and I will get locked up because I am tired and clumsy.😅
