I work for agriculture recycling farm in the south west, we recycling and take in all your guys feed bags, fert bags, wrap/silage, drums, containers and so on. we also work around and in a working farm, I have seen some gory stuff from animals getting killed in the fields, it's part of it and although its not nice to see, it's something you have to deal with and or minimize it as much as possible. anyways, farmers rock and I get jealous seeing all the young farmers come into our work to drop off their seasons worth of waste, driving big tractors, it's awesome to see and I've always wanted to be a farmer! :D
Hi Olly Morgan seems a good handy lad, he gets stuck in and not afraid of getting his hands dirty 👍 Going to miss Hannah & Liv when they leave at the end of the week, i bet they've loved working with you all. 95% today Thanks mate 👍
I'm not a good judge for cereals. My background in farming is different, but for someone like olly who has so many acres, im sure the cost effectiveness alone reaps rewards. That drill is built specifically for his way of use to be fair. Not hating, though, a great sound from ploughing is hard to beat!
The plow, good for turning fields brown, bad for releasing carbon, nitrogen and killing worms and microbes life within the soil. Subsequently reverting soil to dirt. This then erodes by wind and water. Don’t see how yields are improved long term?
@@martinlingham7609 there is a farm in or around Cambridgeshire where I used to live who did a test of till (ploughing etc) and no till farming they found the first 2 years the till ground did better but from 3yrs on the non till ground did better due to the structure and the microbes worms etc so it's swings and roundabouts in everything 🤷🏻♂️
Totally agree with you Olly. "ORGANIC" does not mean Ethical . Its a word used by Supermarkets to sell goods for a higher price. Spraying and Direct drilling will use less fuel and less damage to the soil and also to Wildlife and the Enviroment Great video today keep em coming. Feeling 80% today
Evening Olly, it's good to hear your opinions regarding plough. Without different opinions, things do not advance and improve. There is never one method that suits all occasions or conditions. Kind regards
Another superb blog Olly - Morgan is a dab hand with that big hammer, he’ll go far!! Good ploughing as well. Your photo and slow motion shots of the Xerion ploughing are brilliant, great detail. Olly’s quote of the day - “ we will fix it, persevere, get the field done then stick it back in the hedge” referring to the plough!! 😂🤣😊🚜👏👍
When I worked at a johndeere dealer I seen a few tractors with the hand primer pump diaphragm getting small holes and doing what your 936 is doing. Also seen a few with a check valve going bad letting the fuel drain back into the tank over night.
The plough as it’s uses depending on the type of land you have and crops your going to grow in it but understand this min till way of working Xerion sounds great especially when she’s got to dig her toes in while pulling plough
Check that you haven’t got more that one o ring or seal on the fuel filter sometimes they get stuck where the filters screw on and they will bleed back if there is more than one
Hi, Olly. My knowledge of farming is from watching Jack Hargreaves many years ago. Your videos show the true problems farmers experience. Today, I'm 95%. Cheers, Derek 239
Love the slowmo of the plough! Used to assist a one armed vintage ploughman in competitions. Great views alonside the plough. 95%% today, done my first deliveries of the new firewood season😊
That plough is ready for the knackers hard ollie, a good 6 furrow reversible would have that field done, plough won't do any more damage than any other implement to wildlife, you can't beat the plough ollie
I have used a slatted plough, rather than solid mouldboards. Only a 4f reversible. Less power, breaks the soil down better. I have ploughed and straight in to grass seed behind the plough in good conditions. Only ever entered one ploughing match and messed up the finish, as I did not know how to finish. Could have been near the top of the match should I have finished clean. Try to get a possible slatted demo plough, and in your soil, I think you could do well. Thanks for another fantastic video.
nice seeing the plough and get you totally around us ths i year they seem to be ploughing all the fileds not direct drilling as they would for many years before
In field poles are a real pain and the payments for them are an insult. The NFU did a study 8 or so years back to update them based upon the inconvenience factor but based on their calculations the rates only rose by a few pence.
Great video Olly I personally think direct drilling is better for time saving and cost and better for the wildlife like you said and keep up with the great videos 👏👏👍👍
On organic…. Fair point, grew up with the plough so it was standard until direct drill, but very good point raised. BTW a well ploughed field does look good… 👍
Hi Olly like the up date, will agree if you were direct drilling the wildlife would stand a better chance. I will also say that there is times when the plough would still be needed , will miss Liv & Hannah and wish them all the best for the future. 95% today .

Always great to plough, when the ploughs working well, the tractors ticking along nicely, the suns out, seagulls are following ,it’s a great scene and it’s good for the ground to open it up.
You don't always get fuel out of an air leak that lets air into a diesel injection system overnight. I did have to hand prime the system on my old Xantia (1.9 TDi) every Monday.
Good video again Im going to say 98% today because yesterday i moved from somerset to cumbria the 2% is for the aches and pains i now have after yesterday 😂😂
You know the old saying. Sometimes your can direct drill, sometimes your can min till. But you can always plough. Hope you don't plough any problem weeds
Everything is down to circumstances and situations for what work you do behind the combine and before the crop emerges. Seen lots of places use different methods and sometimes get them right sometimes get them wrong. Also can agree with your thoughts on a plough some(most) are a pain, as some one said a plough is like a needy woman, our one we have none of us want to touch it as its that much of a pain to use and likes braking but its what works in our system for now
Great video as always. Very interesting seeing the plow working. What are hannah and liv doing when they leave. Your videos are never to long always very interesting and enjoyable. 90% today
I think it depends which part of the country your in wether you plough to not Min till doesn’t. Suit everyone in area ploughing is best because it’s very heavy land I have a friend in Warwickshire who’s totally on min till and it really does suit his type of land and he. Grows. Some of the crops of grain I’ve ever seen as I say it’s everyone’s personal choice and what suits one farm doesn’t suit another Bet that telegraph poles a nuisance and you only get £3 a year for it it’s peanuts can’t see you ploughing all the lot ever again Ollie feeling 96% today brilliant video Ollie keep them coming
Really enjoying the vids Olly only just found the site but defo interesting for farming folk and non farm folk ,takes me back to my tractor days defo the getting stuck bit in wet holes lol . all the best to you and the team x.
The reason I have to buy organic now (and I hate it) is that in the United States, companies are allowed to spray natamycin on the packaging and the outside of grains and other products (notably cheese and cured meats) unless they are grown organically. I'm allergic to mycins, though most doctors don't want to hear it and the industry denies that is even a thing. I had a terrible reaction to a mycin when I was a very small child (like more than 30 years ago) and my doctor made clear to me as a child that it was very dangerous for me. It is one of the more depressing things in my life. 15% today - really rough.
@@OllyBlogsAgricontractfarmer Hi olly There is an easy way to get the headlands ploughed with the big plough, it's a little time consuming but it gets every corner ploughed equally. I will look out for you/Morgan in the field and go through it with you.

the sound of the Xerion plowing reminds me of my childhood, when they tilled the ground behind our yard they got a Xerion 5000 now, massiv machine, but the sound is not even close to the 3800 Edit: the 3800 pushing silage is really awesome (maybe do a colab with Tom Pemperton :D )
Love watching the ploughing going 👌🏻 Mr.B would be the best man to ask about ploughing?? And in fairness not a simple field to plough with certain conditions??
"organic" farming should not be confused with "no-till" farming. Tilling historically has been a significant contributor to the destruction of grasslands and many dust bowls the US / North America has endured, causing the destruction of horticulture and other means of food production for the continent. Remembering history and advances ecology is a good thing to pay attention to as opposed to the "fuzzy feelings" of buying something that says organic.
Had to have a hand pump replaced on a Fendt as it wouldn't pump and presumably let air in, that could be your problem. Don't think the tech repaired it.
17:56 That's barely scraping the ground. When i used to help out my uncle around his farm,i'd plow with his IMT 560 (Yugoslavian copycat of Massey Ferguson) and 2 16" furrows atleast 25 cm deep. Poor soul would be always smoking like it's steam lock. 😂
Saw while welding wheel. You had teliporter holding it down? Bit risky as welding can mess up the modules on it etc. As battery will Of been still live to the machine. . 😮
A farm next to me is organic and it always makes me laugh how much they do to a field. Where we’d spray once, cultivate once and drill, they run 4/5 passes over with a cultivator before even considering drilling, more if they spread manure. The crops may be organic but the amount of time, money and fuel spent seems insane!
When your barley yields really well next year you will have Morgan and that plough to thank. Nothing wrong in direct drilling wheat say into your rape stubble and beans but occasionally ploughing helps those other years out I’m sure of it
