  • In this video I take a look at a simple but useful device that allows you to connect SATA drives such as 2.5" SSDs as well as small hard disks. I purchased this as a secondary adapter to pull information off of 2.5" SSD drives I use in plastic caddies meant for the Atomos Ninja V. The connector on this adapter isn't as long as the other one I have, which isn't ideal, but it appears to work fine.

    I just bought this product to try and view my files from an older desktop that stopped working. When I plug everything in to my laptop, nothing is showing up. The HDD is a WD Blue Desktop Hard Drive. Any ideas on what the issue might be and how I can fix this so I can view my files and doucments?

      I highly doubt it is able to supply enough power to a 3.5" desktop drive. You'd be better off getting an external drive case designed for those types of drives. If you've seen those types of larger external drives at stores they are powered by an AC adapter, not through the USB port. There are a few more recent types of USB that could technically supply the ~30 watts that might be needed but I don't know if any exist.

      Следовало изучить тему перед тем как покупать. У дисков 3.5 должно быть питание 12 вольт которого в USB нет. Во всех магазинах и обзорах говорится о том что он только для дисков 2.5 HDD и SSD.

      I doubt that a phone can power a spinning hard disk. The average watts used for a drive like that might be around 25 watts.

      Usually you have to do it manually. Go to settings. Then go to Systems, then go to storage and there should be an option “Manage storage devices” and you should be able to either optimize it or create storage right there, that’s how I did mine. Hope this helps.

    Hey I am using USB 3.0 flash drive as SSD using the same adapter via female to female USB adapter to connect in between, I want to ask how long can it survives? (my USB gets very hot.)

    Could you use this to reliably migrate your OS when upgrading your Sata SSD? I asume you can but wonder how long that might take?

    • @TECHiSuppose
      @TECHiSuppose  Рік тому

      Keith, sorry I can't answer those questions. I think the better way to go around it would be to save anything important on your current setup to removable media. Then swap the SSD drives out inside the PC. From there do a fresh install of your operating system of choice onto the new drive. At that point you could use something like this to pull data from the old SSD in case you missed anything before.

    I'm having a hard time getting mine to work. The hard drive I'm trying to recover data from got corrupted and does not work right anymore. When I plug in the adapter to it, nothing appears on screen like what you've shown in your video. Is it possible that my hard drive is just too corrupted to work anymore?

    • @TECHiSuppose
      @TECHiSuppose  8 місяців тому

      That's a tough one. One thing you could do try different USB ports on your computer to see if one can provide more power to the drive. If the drive is making no noise at all it might not be getting enough power. This device is probably only intended for 2.5" laptop style drives.
      If the drive is making weird clicking or scratching noises it's probably internally damaged.
      If you are trying to connect a large 3.5" hard drive with this it might not be possible for this device to provide enough power. If you have seen these large external drives in enclosures at Best Buy or whatever, they always come with an AC adapter to power the drive and also connect to USB for communicating with the computer.

    • @TECHiSuppose
      @TECHiSuppose  Рік тому

      Sorry, I've never used a PS3 so no idea what works with it. There could be issues with power draw or who knows what else. You'd have to take the risk to try it and see. Looking on the internet it seems like people use standard USB flash drives with it. One of those makes more sense. www.bestbuy.com/site/shop/flash-drives-for-ps3

    • @TECHiSuppose
      @TECHiSuppose  2 роки тому +1

      I haven't had and issue, but my use has been pretty much limited to three specific SSDs. Two are older ~480GB PNY MLC SSDs and the third is a generic one I took from a laptop.
      Odd that people would complain about issues with SSDs over HDDs. I'd speculate anything that pulls a lot of power would be a potential cause of issues and also dependent on whatever USB port they connect to even more so than the adapter.

      You mean a bare 2.5" hard drive? Not something I've tried but I assume it would work. I don't know of anything else that would work. Definitely do not attempt to attach a 3.5" hard drive.
