    I don't think anyone is losing any sleep on your review. In fact more of a surprise is you being able to benchmark a HDD caddy in any useful way. The Sabrent is UASP compatible which is much faster than the old BOT protocol, but UASP only kicks in if you have the right drive, the right cable, the right USB port, and OS support. My guess is the adapter is making the caddy look like USB 2 and so it attaches in BOT mode. The only safe way to benchmark is to test each caddy with the same HDD and confirm the caddy is in UASP mode which means poking around device manager.

      @beer Goggler, don't disagree with anything you said but bear in mind I am reviewing it as a lay person, not with the knowledge that you have. Agreed that most will not lose sleep over this but I will correct myself if I am wrong. Thanks for the better explanation than I could have done. Awesome. Thanks again and good luck.

    Thank you for the explanation. USB connection types do matter. I have a 2012 Mac Mini which has USB Type A connections. I use an external hard drive with a C connection. In order to connect I use an adapter which is C to A (Female to Male). Works great.

    The driver board/adapter/interface can make or break the functionality of it. Phones need more I/O but a stopper would fail and people would lose it. Then the water resistance would be iffy

    hi, I just got the enclosure from MicroCenter, but it did not work with an Inland SSD, I tried two SSDs, all got the same problem (not recognized in disk management tool and in command line), but when I used another Insigna enclosure, both SSD worked fine, any idea why this Sabrent 2.5 enclosure EC-UASP not working with SSD?

    • @KenPeriman
      @KenPeriman  3 роки тому

      @Bin Gao, I don't understand why it wouldn't work it should work uess it's over 2TB. If it's larger it may not work. It's one of the requirements in the specifications.

    I see that both enclosures have different power cable connectors ..any advantages between them ? thanx

    • @KenPeriman
      @KenPeriman  2 роки тому

      One is USB Type-C to Type-C and the other is Type-A to Type-A. The only advantage is that type C can be faster if your drive is also very fast (read SSD). So if I were to chose and since the computers nowadays are moving to Type-C, I would take the Type-C over the Type -A👍

    Does it need to be charged at any point? I have one a couple of years old and today light did not turn on and not recognized on computer. Did i lose everything on it?

    • @KenPeriman
      @KenPeriman  2 роки тому

      No sir, I am sure they dont need to be recharged. it uses power from your computer to run the hard drive. The best way to find out if its the enclosure and not the hard drive is to get another enclosure and test it. if it too dosnt work then the hard drive may be the culprit. But, if you have a spinning hard drive you shouild at least hear something from the drive like the hard drive spinning up. Anyway check it on another enclosure and see, maybe the enclosure is bad and the hard drive is okay? but not sure as I have not seen it. hope this helps some.

      Stephen, just to be sure, I do not work for the company I just reviewed what I bought from them. now, to answer your question...if you don't care about what is on the old drive and don't need the data or information then yes it should be fine to wipe it clean and then just use it for data storage for another computer. Otherwise, no.

    okay i need some big help what internal hdd can i use for storing apps and games and will this be compatible with any pc internal hdd or game console internal hdd?

    • @KenPeriman
      @KenPeriman  3 роки тому

      So, @Tyrannosaurus 1993, this is a big question. First off, I'm not an expert in your specific question but I'm happy to help. So...what are you trying to do? I mean, are you wanting an internal hard drive to use like I just did for an external drive or are you looking for an internal drive. And, if this is an internal drive, we'll. That's up to what type of computer your have ( mini tower, laptop, game consel...).
      Now, in your question if you are referring to just storing data like games and apps data then anything is compatible. If it's more gaming then I strongly suggest an SSD so that your data moves much more quickly compared to a spinning HD.

      @@ill3go wow, okay, you're doing the right things and you're right, not sure if it's the enclosure or the actual HD. Made in China flimsey crap - flimsey construction, breaks easily, fails quickly, everyone I know who has this has had issues, from random stalls, corruption of drive, disconnects, to internal connector breaking after a few uses, lot of poor reviews also on amazon.

      @@KenPeriman I have 1 x 1TB original + 1 x 1TB drive, both were in my Vantec Dual dock, was making a backup from source to destination - I used to do that all the time before with separate single enclosures without issue - during backup disconnect and stall, the issue is with the dock not windows, those dual docks SHARE both slots to a single chipset, I wonder if there is a case for a class action suit against Vantec. I spent an entire day today recovering data from a messed up partition and I'm not done yet. NEVER AGAIN will use dual docks for cloning or backing up. It's funny I've used so many USB3 enclosures over the years, some 24/7 on, never had a single issue, I wonder if the sharing of controller resources on dual bay docks are an issue - I know that Vantec has had many issues with quality control, there are countless tories of people having their drives destroyed, by Vantec docks, Wavlink, WEME, ORICO and others. I wonder if the professional docks costing hundreds of $ have this issue, if they use individual dedicated chipset for each bay as opposed to sharing. When you disconnect it will disconnect both bays, it's absurd - You may not have had issues now, but it's a matter of time WHEN, they will happen eventually especially if you use dual bay docks and use both at the same time for read / write operation.
      Amazon stopped selling them for some mysterious reason, you can only buy them now directly from VantecUSA.
      As far as Vantec ENCLOSURES, never had issues with those, under torture loads, only the docks. and this is a known issue, not a bad unit.

      @@KenPeriman If I may without making assumptions that you might not already, write up cue cards on the PC screen to guide the script keeping it it in mind to be short, sweet and succinct. The things like constant switch back and forth showing USB C and USB A connectors, out of focus and turning around and repeating it again with the cases was overkill. Say the drives use these interface cables, showing the cable ends once, then moving to the issues of cheap connectors as a cause of the poor performance with the snapshots of the bench test should have been sufficient. I tend to run on as well so I cue up the what, why, and how’s and keep the info short and to the point. Think of your listeners of have a short attention span which most people are because they are always in a hurry to get the info they need and don’t really want to listen to banter. You remember show-and-tell in school? Use that as the guideline. We were great at cutting things short in those days even though most of it was not liking an embarrassment or audience. 😂
      Whatever you do … KEEP WORKING AT IT! Much of it boils down to knowing your audience and why they came to your channel. Example, the research I was doing to decide if I wanted to buy one of these enclosures knowing that they might work well over the scratches they will accumulate. Mentioning connectivity issue, especially with Macs that like to blow your shorts off by improperly dismounting themselves.
      Good Luck with the channel and reviews. Hope I have helped in some way without ruffling any feathers.
