Becky, you don’t have to let the marinade go to waste when you grill. Just pour it into a saucepan, bring to a boil, lower heat and simmer until the marinade thickens. Depending what’s in it you may need to strain it. The result is usually a concentrated, flavorful sauce to pour over the grilled meat.
@@cynthiafisher9907 That's not safe Cynthia. There are thawed chicken juices in the left over marinade which is exactly why it can't be used a second time. Bringing it to the boil is essential to make it safe to use as a sauce.
On St. Patrick’s Day I’ll be 78! Since my parents both lived to 95 and had six to eight rows of veggies each summer, I have not thought of myself as being “over-the-hill” old...yet! So, as usual, I’m planning on planting a few tomatoes and a couple bell pepper plants this spring/summer! I’ve been doing this each year, as I really enjoy them! To you in your early 60s, forget about your age! You are still young, so plant and harvest! Enjoy!

Not sure if anyone else commented on this Becky, but if you lay a piece of heavy duty aluminum foil over the grill grates and set it on High for about 15-20 minutes all the goo will cook to ashes and scrape off easily. It turns the grill into a self cleaning oven. My husband as been doing this for 40 years, works like a charm.
I did the biscuit method this time around and it's so much easier! I just cook the biscuits separately and serve them on the side to avoid soggy bottoms I also started to cut my Biscuits in squares to avoid having to smush pieces together. On the ends that means one or two sides don't have the flake look, so it's less pretty but I find it much easier and pretty much the same!

That 1870’s Homestead has a caramelized onion canning video. I canned them for the first time last year and use them all the time! This year I will can more! Love your channel🎉
Hey Becky. I just wanted to say thank you for your videos. I just got home from dropping my assistance dog off to get surgery, and saw your new video. It's so comforting and keeping me "ok". I love waking up to your videos on other days too (Australia). It starts my day off on a good note.
I loved doing the pantry challenge! I spent $75 second week of January and we spent probably $100 for my husband when I was gone 5 days babysitting our grandson. Disclaimer- we eat out a lot during Purdue basketball season but still made a big dent in freezer meals, home preserved garden produce and pantry items! Thankful for this group!
Josh is such a lucky guy to have you for his wife! I’m jealous of how much you do and how well you do it. Don’t worry it’s a good jealous that makes me want to be better. 😊
Thanks to you I decided to eat through my stores! I live in a dorm, so I don't have much space...but I filled it to the brim and everytime I go to the store I come back with ten more things than I planned to, especially bread, pasta and rice variants. Then I keep reaching for the "easy" options instead of actually cooking(even though I love doing it!) and run out of those and produce so quickly that I feel like I need to go to the store again, to refill just this one thing only to end up with another big haul I didn't actually need😅 So now I'm not going to the store again until I've eaten through my stockpile and instead ask my roommates to get some fresh produce for me when they go shopping, so that I can't be tempted to bring home unnecessary things ^^
I’m not shopping for this month of March. No running to the store for ANYTHING. I’m trying to rotate my foods but it’s hard living alone, but I can do it. It will give me an idea of what I’m lacking too to shop in April for those things I discover I don’t have. It will also give me practice on my bread making and pastry making skills. I’m looking forward to my personal challenge.
I think you’re going to be getting me on another Dutch Baby kick soon! We love doing savory Dutch Babies - before it is fully cooked, we throw a bunch of thinly sliced veggies on top along with some cheese and let that all warm up while it finishes baking…you can also just let it fully cook and put sautéed veggies and cheese on top fresh out of the oven!
Becky, if I didn't hear Baby A and see his form on you, I'd never know you recently had a baby 💗!! You have not missed a beat!! You may think this is "normal". I think it's extraordinary!! No one I know cooks all meals from scratch, does a pantry challenge and puts tons of fabulous videos our with a new baby 💖!
I love doing different kinds of compound butter and freezing it! I currently have 6 different kinds of butter in my freezer. I make the butter and then roll it into logs, freeze it for a bit to harden it up, then slice it into sections(I do coins because I like to use it on top of steaks a lot). I then lay them on a parchment lined baking sheet and flash freeze them before putting them into food saver bags(I use the ziploc type ones that I can unseal and reseal again with these)!
I love watching your channel! You give me so many great ideas. One idea you might try with your onions is making carmalized onion powder. It's so delicious and a great way to use up those onions and easy to store on the pantry shelf.
We label our freezer meats with dates as well, makes it so much easier because we backfill once we use something. We do the same with canned goods and freeze dried goods. I love watching your channel!❤
Hi Becky, congrats on starting the raised beds! I cant wait to see the end result. It would be amazing, I can imagine. I am starting to build my raised beds tomorrow. Untill this year I gardened in inground beds but it is too overwhelming for me. So raised beds it is. Enjoy yours as I will mine!
Becky I'm really interested to know what your grocery bill is like for the year? Just to get an idea of whether it's something that will work for our family the way you do it - bulk buying quality meat, growing some of your veggies, making a lot of things from scratch and pantry challenges. Thanks!
With my onions I love to dice some and slice some. I put them in pint sized vacuum sealed bags and then I freeze them flat. The slices can be used for fajitas or Philly sandwiches.
We make Dutch Babies all the time (we call it Pannukakkua) and a trick for avoiding dirtying a blender is to mix your egg & flour together first until well combined and then add liquid. No lumps!
I just canned caramelized onions. I used the recipe from 1870's Homestead on UA-cam. I made hamburger steak last night and put some in the skillet with them. Absolutely delicious!
Oh yay! Just sitting down with a coffee and some homemade bread with butter and honey, having your company along with that is blissful! Thank you for everything you share with us, I appreciate your channel so much! 💜
Becky; I have been watching you for a while now, way before little baby joined your life. In the last few months there has been something different about you. Your demeanor has changed a little and I just figured it out. It’s happiness! You’re glowing in sparkle!
Becky, you are inspiring me so much! I spent this week making freezer breakfasts. I used your granola bread recipe. It is amazing! The best I ever had. I also canned pickles and chicken stock from chicken that I would’ve normally thrown away. I appreciate your content so much!! I also have a whole hog and half a cow coming in a few weeks. I love having pantry security.❤
I began canning last year. I have made caramelized onions many times using the slow cooker, then canned them. So convenient when you only need a small amount. That 1870's Homestead UA-cam channel has a video from one year ago--discussing caramelized onions and onion jam.
I make mushroom powder regularly, but I also made a super concentrated mushroom seasoning, a huge shopping bag of different fresh mushrooms and some dried ones ended out as a cup of powder in the end. It is such a flavor bomb, so it has to be used sparingly, but it is amazing in sauces etc. Fantastic! 🤗
Love and appreciate you so much Becky! Thanks for always being such a great inspiration to dig deeper and get things done! Yesterday we made about 300 cookies and most of the dough went into the freezer for the future. I love cooking big and cleaning ONCE. Such a great way to get ahead. Blessings to you, Josh and Baby “A”. ❤
Thank you for all the time and effort you put into your channel. I enjoy your friendship and the fun we all have cooking together! You always make me smile and brighten my day. God bless you and your family and have a great week. 💕
I love my compound butters. Right now I have Rosemary/Thyme and Basil/Oregano. I used the solids I skimmed off while making ghee and added fresh herbs from my garden. You can caramelize onions in the crockpot in a liquid (I’ve used balsamic vinegar, wine, or beer) and then freeze dry them to use in recipes
Hi Becky! Yes compound butters are amazing to have on hand to add great flavors to everything! Also, if you bring that chicken marinade up to temp/boil on the stove, you can still pour it over rice or whatever. I encourage you to look up the safe temp just to be sure. Hope this helps! 🌺 Jen
Without the sugar that is basically what we in the UK call Yorkshire Pudding. It is a savoury side eaten with a roast beef dinner, or a desert dish served with fruit, syrup or any other combination of choice. I love hearing baby Acre sounding out his voice - so cute.
Oh my, Becky that nuget candy! It's better than I remember!! I'm very ashamed to say I have made it 2 x so far! And if i listen to the men in my house I would have made it again! It is way too good! "Willpower" is not our strong site around here! And those biscuits are yummy too! Thank you for sharing all these wonderful recipes Becky! We love your channel! My hubby loves it too!! That's saying a lot for him! The only other youtube my husband will watch without complaining is " Mandy in the making" all others he complains about! Lol thank you again! We make a German pancake around here that we call "Branda cake" And it has pretty much everything you put in just a little bit more of everything so the custard layer is a lot thicker and oh my goodness so yummy I guess we're gonna have that tomorrow For breakfast the boys will be happy!
I love the idea of the mushroom salt. I don't like to eat mushrooms but I know they're nutritious so using them in a salt is a great idea. Thanks Becky! 😀
Get some silicone ice cube trays to put your compound butters in and then you can pop them out and store in a freezer bag. Then you have it portioned to use!
Cook the sauce. Either in the grill on a pan that can take the heat or on the stove and then you can eat the sauce. You can add more to the chicken at the end and use it on the rice.
That plucks! For a while there, we had some mighty dry family Thanksgiving turkey as the hostess wanted to make sure it was safe, dicing it up and tossing it in a slow cooker with a tomato base, all the better just covering it in some picante sauce or the left over pico de gallo, got it some what edible. It was still rather tasteless and dry but better edible.
Becky, a BIG Thank You for the shorter video times. I absolutely LOVE your content but sometimes it's difficult to watch a HR long video....time wise that is. You're looking great and baby sounds like he is thriving. PS...My husband and I so enjoy your Dad's channel and starting our day with his very inspirational word. 🙏🕊️💕
If you are a "fast listener" you can adjust the playback speed. I always listen at 2x speed and am waiting for UA-cam to make a 2.5 or 3x speed like some podcast players have.
A tip that I use for meal planning is to go through what I have and make a four-week menu taking into consideration that some busy nights will have to be easy meals. I personally like this because some nights get turned into leftover nights meaning I will still have meals left over in case I can't get to the store right away. By having different levels of effort meals I can also easily move certain items around when needed. This plan also makes it so that if I have a day where I can prep freezer meals I already know what to make. Having the meals also helps me remember what ingredients I have. So if I have lasagna on the menu and I decide I don't want to make it I can instead use the same ingredients to make baked ziti just changing the noodle shape. I like to have around two complicated meals a week so that i can still make something fun to cook when im inspired.
That sausage dinner looks just divine. U never seem to inspire me to do things. Omgoodness. Love every video u put out. I just started seedlings, planted 3 apple trees ( red & green golden delicious & fuji, plus we have crab apple, a peach tree, more varieties of blueberries, raspberries, gooseberries, elderberry, aronia berry (looks like blueberries) we have Mulberries, Strawberries. I didn't realize how many different ones I had until writing this down.

Another great video Becky, lovely to hear baby in the background. The dutch baby is called a 'Yorkshire Pudding' in the UK. Usually served with savoury i.e. Beef and gravy xxx
In oldern days Yorkshire pudding were saved until last thing on your plate you had gravy Yorkshire pudding or left it until everyone had finshed had it with jam
My gran used to make raspberry vinegar and served it over left over Yorkshire pudding as a desert but would have had the Yorkshire with the Sunday lunch too. It was so good. My grandma was a cook in a stately home she was an amazing cook xxxx
Can't wait to see your garden Becky! Your raised beds will be great! I've got green beans planted in the ground so far and cucumbers and squash planted in peat moss cups. They have both sprouted! One day I hope we'll get to see him helping you in the garden!

If you ever need meal inspiration, Budget Bytes has a ton of excellent recipes! Some of our favorites are creamy tortellini soup, chili mac and cheese, chicken fajita pasta, beef and mushroom stroganoff, cheeseburger pasta, taco pasta, American goulash, Cajun chicken pasta, baked chicken nuggets, baked pizza chicken, sheet pan sweet and sour chicken, garlic herb chicken breast, baked chicken wings, sweet and spicy chicken thighs, teriyaki chicken and rice, unstuffed bell peppers and cheddar cheeseburger meatloaf. As you can tell my husband and I are a huge fan of her recipes!!
I watched an older Jamie Oliver Christmas video where he makes 4 compound butters...I have made 2 of them and, seriously, I added them to anything I thought they'd work well with!! Since then, I have made garlic butter which I keep in the freezer and pop onto steaks/lamb, potatoes. The butters don't take much time to make and are really worth doing! PS. loving hearing little Baby A sharing his thoughts in the background!!

@@mimiashford5544 oooh! That sounds amazing!! I'll definitely try that next December! Thanks!
That 1870s Homestead has a video on caramelized onions for canning and they are so good!! Another amazing one is her French onion soup for canning!!
I’m in Aust 🇦🇺 too & I LOVE waking up to a new video every other day. So great to relax on the couch with a cuppa and watch
My mother always made beef stew with biscuits on top like your chicken pot pie. It was my favorite way to have it!
OH MY GOSH! Mushroom Salt! I LOVE this idea! I can't wait to give it a try!!!!!!
I loved the “Bewitched” moment when the pan disappeared from the counter.😂
MAGIC
😂
Thanks!
Great idea for another video.
Wow that German pancake looks like a giant Yorkshire pudding. So excited for you to get your garden finished.
My dad would grill a lot. We would take the marinade, add a bit of cornstarch or flour to cook the marinade, and it thickens it!
Rachel from 1870s homestead does an amazing canned caramelised onion recipe.
You cook unbelievably large meals for two adults with your professionally equipped kitchen and pantries. Tasty and imaginative too!
So sweet to hear baby Acre cooing in the background 💜 still loving your channel!
Good job Jan!!
Fantastic! 🤗
I am always dehydrating baby Bellas, because I love the flavor, but I never thought of making a powder out of them. Thanks for the idea!
Your editing skills only get better and better. I've watched every single episode and am living vicariously through you as you are living your dreams!
The honey mustard marinade is one of my favorites too! I love it on the grill.
Freeze dried strawberries are amazing on yogurt, cereal, oatmeal, etc! Love them! I have a load going in my freeze dryer, as we speak!!!!
Kecia, Would you please link his youtube channel?
If you are a "fast listener" you can adjust the playback speed. I always listen at 2x speed and am waiting for UA-cam to make a 2.5 or 3x speed like some podcast players have.

I make a sage compound butter every year for my Turkey, so if you grow sage there is a variety to try.
I just canned caramelized onions for the first time last fall. They are DELICIOUS! You will not be sorry if you do it!😊
We cut our strawberries with the hard boiled egg slicer then freeze dry them gif use in cereal. We do the same with bananas.
The view out your kitchen window when you make the honey mustard chicken is amazing! Thr sun is setting and the sky is beautiful! 😍😍😍😍
I hear Baby A while you're talking!🤗🤗. I think he talks because he hears you!🤗🤗. So sweet!🙏🤗. I love all these recipes! Thank you for sharing! I love your channel Becky!! God bless.
I planted carrots in a large plastic deep tub. They are up too! Like you I am very excited for this canning season! Love your cooking recipes! Baby Acre sounds so sweet in the background. One day I hope we'll get to see him helping you in the garden!
Such an inspiration! Baby Acre is so lucky to have you as a mom!
Caramelized onions freeze well. Whippoorwill holler has a video for cooking and canning. Love them.
Rachel from That 1870s homestead channel has a recipe for canned caramelized onions. 😊
That looked like a great meal! Love the idea of compound butter, your dehydrator will be perfect for even freeze dried veggie, fruit to seasonings. Look forward to seeing the video.
FYI for the Dutch baby you do not have to add the sugar to the mix it will still cook up nicely and I add cinnamon to my mix.
Thank you for taking us on your pantry challenge journey wow week 6 I am 65 love and you have given me to much inspiration. God bless you. xxx
