Houseplant lover here!, A very easy plant is a 'snake plant' (Dracaena trifasciata) doesn't need lots of water, but needs some indirect sunlight and can survive being neglected. Peace lily can survive in lower light but likes to be watered often. Another easy plant is a ZZ plant- just like the snake plant- needs some sunlight, not much water. Depending on humidity and warmth in your house- plants can dry out quicker if warmer. Hope this helps :)

While I agree on the snake plant and zz plant, I wouldn't recommend a peace lily for someone with pets who isnt able to keep a consistent eye on them! It would probably be fine on a counter since she only has dogs, and theyre not generally as dangerous for dogs as for cats, but after a $2k vet bill and a near miss on kidney failure for my cat due to not knowing about lily toxicity, I really like to make sure people know to avoid them if they're not sure that they can keep it out of their pets' reach.

Here in the NW United States we have been getting dumps with extreme winds during the storms so the six inch rule really isn't feasible. The storms we have in the Rocky Mountains and where she lives in Washington are different than winters elsewhere (not saying worse or easier, just different - I have lived where she lives and I live now in the Rocky Mountains). We will plow and before I have put the equipment away it's already back. You would end up continuously plowing. This winter has been harder just because of the sheer number of storms. I still have 4-6 feet on my property, and I have snow falling right now. We normally have snow on the ground 5-6 months out of the year but it's so much more.

Pothos are super easy and grow like monsters! You can cut from the ends and propogate them in water whenever it grows too long. You can even just keep them in water after propagating! They don’t need soil to survive but I wouldn’t put a pothos that was in soil in water. I just set a repeating calendar alert to water my plants once a week. Succulents are great if you’re bad at watering. Overwatering is the most common killer for any cactus type plants. There are plenty of succulents that don’t have spikes (thinking of baby A when he starts running around)

Pothos is fantastic. I had a health issue and left mine in a dark room with out water for 4-6 weeks. It survived! Very little to no issues in terms of leaves yellowing or dropping either.
A little trickier (just needs more light) is Pilea. It is fantastic at making babies if you leave it in a spot you love and also can easily go a week or so at a clip without water if you have it in a good spot.

Some houseplants that are easy to keep happy are generally pothos, like golden pothos and marbled queen pothos (They are regular hanging or climbing houseplants). The ZZ plant is also a great altenative, as it stores water in its rootbulbs, it is one of those plants that almost thrives being neglected. The monstera family is also a common and good choice, and it has beautiful foliage. Keep in mind that those in the monstera family that are varigated like the thai constellation and albo variegata can be quite expensive as they are trendy in the plant community! I also reccomend coleus, as there is a plethra of choices for colorful foliage:)

He knows many people who had to put in a whole new septic system ($15,000) because these pods “do not break down” but CLOG up the system. My niece, unfortunately , was one of them. Yep, you are experiencing a bit of “sticker shock!” My husband started doing most the grocery shopping during 2020. Which he has continued to do. He seldom looks at prices, just if he wants it, he buys it! Not me, I constantly find myself saying “I’m not paying that amount!” So hard to stick to my list when I go to Trader Joe’s. Hi Becky!
For Houseplants I can recommend Monstera, Pothos and Philodendron. There are many different kinds and they are very hardy plants.
A big part of not killing houseplants is watering them correctly. Most houseplants like soil with good drainage, and then you water them thoroughly until the water is dripping out of the pot and the soil is soaked through. And then you water again when the top inch is dry, which is usually after a week or two.
Some plants like Snake plants or ZZ Plants prefer for their substrate to dry out completely.
Most of these plant can handle not watering them for 2-3 weeks though 😊👍🏻

The absolute best houseplant I can think of is the painted nettle. It’s also called coleus (or plectranthus scutellarioides). The leafs come in arrays of green, pink and white - they’re stunning. You’ve probably seen them as landscaping but they also make beautiful houseplants. Super easy to keep alive and you can start them from seed. Just make sure you trim once in a while because they grow like weeds!!

If it's burning hot then pour out and peel, but if it's just hot water, you can just start peeling the labels off without emptying it yet and it stays hot so you don't have to pause halfway around the jar/container and refill with hot water. If the item can't be filled, use a hairdryer or even a heater vent to warm up the label for a minute or so and it will peel right off. ❤❤

Becky you can always schedule alarms on your phone for reminders of when to water the plants or you can use your planner. Rather digital or physical a planner is great because it allows you to write into your schedule or on the day when to water or when to let something go dry. The Christmas cactus is one that water for a schedule of three weeks then let it go dry. then after it goes dry for about a week or so you water it and it blooms. Seriously it's not that big of a deal if you miss a week of watering with succulents. Mother-in-laws tung is a tall stately looking leaf style plant that is great for low or bright light and can survive neglect. Aloe is also another good one. Still I don't think you need to worry. You will probably remember to water them when you see them.

I will sometimes buy the basil plants from the produce section with the purpose of taking cuttings. You can get so many starts by cutting the top few inches off each plant in the pot and placing them in water. They root very quickly and I’ve found it to be even more successful than starting with seeds.
