Awesome. Covered by many, perhaps you'd like to hear it performed by its composer, American folk legend Townes Van Zandt, who first recorded it in 1968. ua-cam.com/video/LGMOX8NpuR0/v-deo.htmlsi=DydYo_MwupAMjI6-
Three women dedicated to a concept lost on most people today-true love for the music, the genre, the instruments, the lyrics....don't see much real musical talent and commitment to the craft noiwadays
These three beautiful women defined what it meant to play together as a group. Samantha Parton's concentration and attention to detail is stunning. In my dreams I'm playing lead or bass behind them. Regards, George Armstrong
Subtle, sweet, painful. Ascending.... It's all there Man. Canadian Folk is my thought Dan. Found them on a radio program I subscribe to. Starting to make it on mainstream radio now, at least here in Boston.
it's a great performance but you gotta hand it to whomever produced the studio version. love the booming bass and i miss the haunting harmonica in this live version
@@DaveFisher1 Can't agree more. This version is great, but the harmonica in the studio version is amongst the most perfect things I have ever heard. I will often just skip to the end to listen to the harmonica!
The moment I hear this I get spellbound. And I am not coming out of this state only by thinking I am spellbound. No, it takes a harder grip to place my soul amongst the listeners. I just want to dive into this music, all the time.
Once upon a time... I bought an album thinking it was by a small band I'd heard once called Blue Horses... That began my journey with The Tanyas... I adore this song ❤

The Tanya's are pretty kick ass, these women are beautiful inside and out. The details in the music present themself, and permeate throughout- Now this is MUSIC.🍀
What beautiful playing and singing. Sam's voice mixes so well with Frazey. Listen how Sam and Trish keep the rhythm driving; it's just magic. Performances like this are rare. Beautiful, talented Canadian Hippy Chicks. Wow. Regards, George Armstrong
A perfect song of day to day living in modern times in a rat race , makes me reach for my backpack and take off camping to enjoy life with nature beautiful song in my book
Man my parents got to see them live around 05 I think and apparently it was a tiny venue with like 50 people and TBGTs were on ground level, so it was just a jam sesh with fans all around. I was probably out partying or some shit at the time, but damn I wish I had been there. I've since become a huge fan of these guys (my parents have been listening for years), and seeing them up close and personal would be a treat. "His name is codeine, and he's the nicest thing I've seen, and together we'll wait around to die" amen to that sisters.
I heard a small part of the song for the first time in the "Bit by a Dead Bee" episode of the TV series Breaking Bad. I found it on UA-cam as soon as the episode ended. I'm not a person who comments a lot, but this is the most emotional song I've heard lately. It gets into people's minds and I can't stop myself from listening to it over and over again. excellent musical work
Wow, I can't believe this. That's the railways club in Vancouver, I have also performed there in 2023, I really wish I was at this good Tanya's show in 2001, I was only 1 year old :( please do a tour again and stop in Vancouver!
Raw and real from great talents..unlike today's manufactured pretenders..the songwriter was about as raw a talent ever.he lived it ,he wrote, he sung it.tvz..
A lot of people talk about how great the show Breaking Bad is, and indeed it is one of the all-time greatest, but not only in the realm of directing, writing and filmmaking itself; BB has shown me some of the best songs I've ever heard, and I mean A LOT of songs. The producers of this show did a masterful job, and for that, I'll always be truly thankful.
Was this song used in Breaking Bad?! I’ve been a huge fan from the start, BCS too of course and fully Agree about the creators’ use of music but I don’t recall this song in either series
@@steveklimczak3568 It was i believe in that scene where walter sneaks out of the hospital and then to his home to hide the gun and money from his family. Season 2 i think, after the Tuco abduction incident.
Can't get enough. I listened to Townes performance. Pretty straightforward, dry and matter of fact. These players made it emotional. They evoked the mood while showing off impressive pickin' skills without overdoing it. In fact they were very delicate and aware of the mood. Somebody else said they put it on loop. So did I.😊
The more I listen to their music the more I love it! Amazing harmonies, they blend just perfectly together. One of my absolute all time favorite groups.
Absolutely, with out a doubt These ladys have nailed it, A Trio of Lovely musicians that comes together like a good recipe, The Be Good Tanya's. Three Thumbs up👍👍👍🎶🎵🎶

And The Be Good Tanyas , they're amazing . Sorry I forgot to add that into my first comment aha .
What a great interpretation of a great song. It was meant for them to play..
indeed
Agreed
I cannot stop playing this song, it is absolutely magnificent
Hear the original. it's even better and much better sang.
@@forgottensage-o5oI personally prefer this version than original
This is why we love UA-cam.

That banjo player is mesmerizing, a real bad ass.
Their voices and those stringed instruments are so mesmerizing! I could listen to this all day.

truth
Theirs a reason so many shows and games used this song. It’s amazing with this band
I'm in love with Samantha.
Seriously, though, this group is one of the few legit heirs to the true sound of American old timey music.
That bango is killing me, this is so good

it's a great performance but you gotta hand it to whomever produced the studio version. love the booming bass and i miss the haunting harmonica in this live version

What a powerful song, brought tears to my eyes
Sometimes I don't know where this
Dirty road is taking me
Sometimes I don't know the reason why
So I guess I'll keep gamblin'
Lots of booze and lots of ramblin'
It's easier than just waitin' around to die
Well one-time friends I had a Ma
I even had a Pa
He beat her with a belt once cause she cried
She told him to take care of me
She headed down to Tennessee
It's easier than just a-waitin' around to die
I came of age and found a girl
In Tuscaloosa bar
She cleaned me out and she hid it on the sly
Well I tried to kill the pain
I bought some wine I hopped a train
Seemed easier than just waitin' around to die
Then a friend said he knew where
Some easy money was
We robbed a man and brother did we fly
But the posse caught up with me
Drug me back to Muskogee
Now it's two long years, waitin' around to die
Now I'm out of prison
I got me a friend at last
He don't steal or cheat or drink or lie
His name is codeine
And he's the nicest thing I've seen
And together we're gonna wait around to die
I am late at night turning a corner in a WVA town on main street, in the mountains, rain is falling as clouds move above swiftly forming shadows.
Yeah.
