I really enjoy your takes because you speak from your own personal experience and never come off as overly opinionated like so many other You Tubers. You clearly understand that what you like can be completely different from others and don’t try to push your styles or choices in your videos. Finally, you definitely seem like a regular guy who really enjoys watches but in a way that’s realistic to most viewers. You aren’t going on and on about plastic parts and how it’s ruining the regulation of your watch and now you can’t hand your $500 PRX down from generation to generation. Thanks and looking forward to the next one.

Really appreciate the kind words - far too flattering! Haha... Thank you though for taking the time to share this, I am grateful for you watching the channel and enjoying the content. Hopefully onwards and upwards 🍻...but if I do ever get overly opinionated and out of control be sure to do me a favour and leave me a scathing review 😅

@@nextonthewrist Great point on bracelets as well. I don’t wear any of my watches on bracelets. FKM straps were a game changer for me. 👍

The best lesson I learned is to set yourself up an allotment per month based off your budget, for watches you want to buy in the future, as opposed to trying to figure out how to find funds for watches right now. You manage your money better and if you can just hold off for a bit, you end up being able to afford a better watch. Also, when your wife already agreed to 50 bucks a month, it's hard for them to argue later on when you spend 600 bucks on a watch from that budge that was prearranged.

Really great advice. I think this technique would save a lot of us those difficult conversations too when another piece turns up and the price question obviously gets asked ...happy wife happy life etc. 😅

Fortunately on the mod front (from complete builds to subtle hand changes ) i like & enjoy mine , also as a " bracelet guy" iv'e become a bit more experimental & found i'm partial to a Tropic and the odd elastic military strap , as for WR @ 50m min if its on rubber or SS screw-down crown or not its getting wet regardless (and survives happily) . Some noteworthy points chap.

I don't think I've tried an elastic strap so far, I'll add it to the to-do list. Cheers for the comments, I'm happy you are able to make use of your mods and don't suffer from my condition 😆

Actually seeing the watch in person does help quite a bit. I’ve spent hundreds on watches that looked better in an add than in person. I will never buy another negative display because of this. I had a Casio Pro Trek PRW-3100Y with a great negative display and decided to replace it with a GShock GW-2310FB. Horrible decision. It’s almost unreadable and the light is horrible. Also bought a Citizen Navihawk with a negative digital display. Again, it’s almost unreadable in any light conditions.

That's a really good point on negative displays - the technology is out there to do them right and make a good product but more often than not...they are poorly executed with no regard for readability. You'd think before releasing the watches someone would test them in real world conditions, like not just a cave using the back light 🫣😅

Half a dozen from me :)
    1. Don’t listen to comment ‘experts’. You’ll miss an awful lot of great watches if you reject quartz, anything but sapphire, or develop movement snobbery, for example.
    2. Don’t buy duplicates. I don’t mean of the same model - but if you’ve got one blue dial diver, do you really need another one? Buy something unique to your collection!
    3. Learn how to use a spring bar tool. Until everyone figures out that quick-release is the way to go, you will need to know how to do it, so that…
    4. ….you can participate in the easiest mod of all - strap changes. I agree with your comments about quality - you learn the good brands quickly. You can completely change the character of a watch with a simple strap change.
    5. Speaking of mods - not every mod is an upgrade. You might like it, but you will never get your money back.
    6. Don’t buy for resale, unless you are fully prepared to lose money.

All great points. I wish I had listened to your number two at various points in previous years, that's a super common mistake. I have felt a lot better branching out recently for sure!
For point 3, and again spot on it is, I'd add to buy one great quality spring bar tool and not waste time with the super cheap ones that bend and deform.. I bought a watchgecko one years ago and it's never let me down.
Number 6 a fair few people have found this out the hard way since the 'hype brands' have crashed 😆

@@nextonthewrist Agreed - you’ll buy cheap tools many times, but a good one, typically only once. I should have added the gizmos needed for resizing bracelets, but, unlike the spring bar tool, most of the devices that come in the basic kits are just fine. Or, you could just limit yourself to bracelets that use screws, but then I’m in danger of falling foul of my own #1 :)

Lesson I learned is that Sarx 057 is pound to pound the best watch ever!!

Lots of competition but timeless elegance, it's a good pick for sure 😎🙌

@@nextonthewrist After sarx 057 definetly Riviera with Baumatic, maybe the best 3 thousand € movement ever in luxury watch.Riviera as watch is perfect example of affordable luxury, that same movement is used by IWC which cost 11k.Considering what you are geting in 3k price range this is a steal.
