I've played this game on the NES, SNES, x68000, PC-Engine, PC, and Sega and I can say in any variation, it has one of the best game soundtracks EVER...love it!!
Currently finished it on Famicom, Super Famicom, X68000, NEC Pc98, Mega Drive, MSX and now Pc-Engine. Got the PS2, PSP and PC version ahead of me. Favourite song is Believe in my Heart. After that is Zone of Lava and Valestein Castle.
She surpassed him with her Ys III compositions, imo. He's got many legendary soundtracks under his belt, but Mieko Ishikawa is legendary for her work on Ys and created my most favorite compositions.
The fact that two of the most heard boss themes have such blatant bugs in the original drives me mad, considering how great they are as compositions. Not only are the percussion parts desynched, but a part stops playing on the second loop of Beasts as Black as Night. Mieko Ishikawa was really overworked during this time period.
riskvideos The Genesis version is based off of the PC-88 original, and it sounds more like that than the Sharp version does. But yes, I agree the Sharp X68000 version is better, even though I love the Genesis soundchip.
I love this soundtrack. In fact, I much prefer the x68000 soundtrack over the PC Engine Redbook audio version. The tunes have a punchier, edgier feel to them. When it comes to Ys I and II, I think the orchestrated PC Engine version reigns supreme, although the PC88 version is brilliant especially taking into account the hardware limitations.
Oh, hey guy! I heard about you from the MikeySpiky action52 vids! Ys III does have an incredible soundtrack (actually, the whole series is notable for this)
I love "Be Careful!" in particular. Ys III had a great soundtrack, and most systems did a respectable job with it. Minus the PS2, PSP/PC and SNES versions.
SNES wasn't midi though. SNES was a sound sampler, provided it could fit in the system's memory (plus the cartridge's memory), it could essentially play anything, although muffled. Ys III was just sad on the SNES, I don't blame the SNES but rather Falcom.

I've played this game on the NES, SNES, x68000, PC-Engine, PC, and Sega and I can say in any variation, it has one of the best game soundtracks EVER...love it!!
i played in the turbografx16 and sounds beautiful too
Currently finished it on Famicom, Super Famicom, X68000, NEC Pc98, Mega Drive, MSX and now Pc-Engine. Got the PS2, PSP and PC version ahead of me.
Favourite song is Believe in my Heart. After that is Zone of Lava and Valestein Castle.
I hope one day, like any Beethoven work, this will be remembered as timeless classics...
Love this soundtrack. so anime so 90s. So awesome.
Love Yuzo Koshiro's and his breakthrough composition for Ys but... Mieko Ishikawa is my heroine!
She surpassed him with her Ys III compositions, imo. He's got many legendary soundtracks under his belt, but Mieko Ishikawa is legendary for her work on Ys and created my most favorite compositions.
personally, YS3 is the best YS for me, and for YS3, X68000 is the best OST. even better than PC Engine.
I love YS3 soundtracks from both X68000 & PCE-CDROM, especially PCE-CDROM, no other BGM can beyond it....
I love the music in this game. It's just the best in X68000 and PCE.
Genesis/Megadrive version is also very close to X68k. :)
Gotmilk0112 True, but there's something lacking in the megadrive/genesis version.
Yes, the Genesis version lacks percussion at times, such as in the shop theme.
riskvideos The Genesis version is based off of the PC-88 original, and it sounds more like that than the Sharp version does.
But yes, I agree the Sharp X68000 version is better, even though I love the Genesis soundchip.
just want to say pc engine and pc 98 are two completely different things
I love this soundtrack. In fact, I much prefer the x68000 soundtrack over the PC Engine Redbook audio version. The tunes have a punchier, edgier feel to them. When it comes to Ys I and II, I think the orchestrated PC Engine version reigns supreme, although the PC88 version is brilliant especially taking into account the hardware limitations.
0:00 Isn't that Sunset Riders?
Oh, hey guy! I heard about you from the MikeySpiky action52 vids!
Ys III does have an incredible soundtrack (actually, the whole series is notable for this)
03:57 TRADE STREET
I don't know who Chester is, but his theme is fucking awesome.
play the game, then you'll know who Chester is.
Make sure to check out the PC remake, The Oath in Felghana...rearranged soundtrack ;)
18:42 is going to be my alarm sound on my phone. LOL. That will get my attention!
Most people that say the original isn’t better are the ones who obviously can’t play/hear the original
so epic
I love "Be Careful!" in particular.
Ys III had a great soundtrack, and most systems did a respectable job with it. Minus the PS2, PSP/PC and SNES versions.
It just doesn't sound like Ys music.
I love metal normally, it just doesn't work for this type of game.
Either way, I just didn't like it as much as versions like this one.
SNES wasn't midi though.
SNES was a sound sampler, provided it could fit in the system's memory (plus the cartridge's memory), it could essentially play anything, although muffled. Ys III was just sad on the SNES, I don't blame the SNES but rather Falcom.
Well again, that's not the soundchips fault.
Roman Dass No, you didn't, but you kind of argued my statement that SNES was midi.
Elena's brother. You meet him in Ilburn Ruins.
grad1u52, can you uploading Vagrant Fighter FX soundtrack as a request please? Grad1u52.
imho the best one is pc version however (oath in felghana)
