    This is all ridiculous. Perhaps what should be reviewed is why the same actresses get nominated over and over again and why when an unknown woman gets the nomination the media thinks SHE is the imposter. Is it lobbying if you are not associated with a big studio but if you are it’s not? Shame on the Academy for announcing it was undertaking a review. What purpose does that announcement serve other than to undermine the little guy. If the Academy had any class it would have kept it’s silly review to itself. And shame on the media for targeting this woman.

      It’s ridiculous that big-time studios are allowed to spend tens of millions of dollars to campaign and lobby for Oscars on behalf of films like Top Gun: Maverick and Avatar: The Way of Water, while deserving little independent films are deemed to have committed “fraud” when actors like Jane Fonda, Kate Winslet, Sarah Paulson, Charlize Theron and Cate Blanchett got NO MONEY for promoting this film and embracing a performance they personally loved on their social media platforms. If Andrea Riseborough were to be disqualified, they should also disqualify ALL FILMS that spent ANY MONEY to lobby for the Oscars. It's interesting because all of these A-list celebs did everything they could to get Andrea nominated and now that she has, they may have just put her in even worse of a position had they not said, "VOTE FOR HER!" and instead just say, "GO SEE THE MOVIE!" and let people make that decision themselves. I haven't seen To Leslie but even if it's the best female performance of the year, I feel like it won't be her performance that is memorable anymore, it's going to be all this drama, ultimately hurting her chances of getting an Oscar this season or in future award seasons, because not many people in the US are as familiar with her and only know her name through this award show drama. Interested to see the outcome and what the hell will happen this year, at the award show.

    • @SwimmerPrince

    • @makeupbyjessx13
      @makeupbyjessx13 Рік тому +8

      @@SwimmerPrince I think the point I was trying to make was that there is a big gap of culture & understanding between A-list movie stars, who help make up the Academy voting body, versus the average American who isn't a cinophile, isn't allowed to vote, but is interested enough to hear about the nominations on the news. Because the campaign for Andrea was started by her A-list peers, in the bubble of Hollywood, although the performance may be worthy of the nomination, these A-listers intentionally targeted only the Academy voting body during their voting period, to try to sway enough votes. And it worked. But I'm also saying that I believe that the majority of people in the US are just now finding out about her through this Oscar drama, which I think could hurt her in the long run because the very first association people here are going to have with her name won't necessarily be her performance (because many people haven't seen it) but rather whether or not the nomination/award was given to her by a fair voting body. The whole campaign her peers are doing for her may end up not only hurting her chances of winning, but may also leave an unfavorable taste in the public's mouths for her in the future. Because even if the performance is great, sometimes the drama that happens off-screen outshines the performance.

If she's such an amazing actor, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Aniston, Kate Winslet and others should have used their status to get her cast in better movies. Instead, they placed this woman in an elite class of actors who have worked extremely hard to get their careers and to build their relationships. There is a process to all of this but because the process was not airtight, she was able to leapfrog over all of it. Since the movement was successful, but not accepted, there is a real possibility these A list actresses may have ruined Andrea's career bc their actions to elevate, denied others their chance to be nominated within the process. A big problem I have with this situation is the blatant hypocrisy. If this “grassroots” method was utilized for all underrated and undervalued low budget films, no one would have a problem with it. People keep posting about race, elites, and big budget Hollywood. Don’t you think it’s interesting that as soon as actresses of color (with obvious cinematic talent) start playing by Hollywood’s “rules” that the goal post gets moved again? 🤔 Actresses who have also had their award deserving performances overlooked and told it was just because of campaigns. Awfully funny that the people who have benefited from the system are now rocking your boat to change it so that someone who looks like them can also benefit 🤷‍♀️.

    People wondering how was she nominated without a prior Golden Globe or Critics Choice nomination: Oscar nominations happen *nearly every year* without any major prior nominations.
    And people saying she should have been nominated on merit: no one really saw the movie before she was nominated, so how can you even be certain she didn't deserve to be nominated if you haven't even seen her performance?
