- he Oscars and Emmys are the two oldest entertainment award ceremonies. Making their broadcasting debut to millions of televisions in the 1950s, the Oscars and Emmys have had a stronghold on the entertainment award-show zeitgeist. However, in 2021, viewership for award shows has been steadily declining. On top of dwindling in ratings, the prestigious Hollywood events have also been hit with controversies and protests that jeopardize these award shows as we’ve come to know them.

The Rise And Fall Of Award Shows
Thing is, regular people do not care about it in the slightest, why would we waste our time watching wealthy people who are disconnected from reality congratulate each other in the most hypocritical manner? The movie industry is becoming more and more an echo chamber, people don't have time for this bs when we've got food to put on the table.
It is becoming a woke echo chamber. They don't care what the majority of people actually enjoy: good plot, funny, action packed without political narratives running through it.
@@brent4073 Having a political narrative isn't that much of an issue in itself imo, my issue is that they shove it down your throat nowadays, there's no nuance, no subtlety etc which makes it absolutely jarring
@@brent4073 Good movie doesn't have to be funny and action packed at all.
@@brent4073 "funny, action packed". that's rather shallow
Cudnt have said it better!
Truth is, social media killed the exclusivity vibe award shows used to have. Award shows used to show us lavish lifestyles of rich celebrities on tv for one night, now we see that everyday on Instagram or Twitter. Everyone one loves to see nice lavish luxuries once in a while but when it’s presented and shoved in our faces everyday we just get over it.
Underrated take
true
good point!
At least The Game Awards succeed thanks to video streaming media nowadays.
Social media has killed celebrity culture. Even the star power has drastically dropped in these award shows. I don't know most of the people who are nominated these days. Part of the appeal was seeing the biggest movie/music stars attend, and now we don't see much of that anymore. Influencers are now getting invited to these events. The age of A-list superstardom is pretty much dead.
This isnt just Award Shows, people just stopped watching broadcast television period.
I know. I probably watch broadcast tv 2 to 3 hours a week. The great majority of time, I'm on UA-cam.
@@jacquelinestephenson323 I rarely watch broadcast TV. It's not cool
Indeed I hardly watch tv and instead being on the internet instead
@@jacquelinestephenson323 same here most of my time is on YT
It's not broadcast tv at fault here. The biggest reason for this decline is actually simple, Hollywood is so friggin' woke. Entertainment should be fun, but through the years celebrities have been using these award shows for their political sentiments which is so painful to watch. Every thing about them has become so woke, Oscars So White, not enough representation, not enough etc etc.
When you have a place full of wealthy people, who think they know what’s best for you, the world, and for them to constantly virtue signal and to publicly parade themselves as doing so good, when in fact they don’t know how damn hard life is for the rest of us. It’s just so condescending, because the rest of us sometimes don’t have the luxuries of taking action; some are worried about their next bill and hardly being able to pay their rent on time.
It’s no wonder people are not interested. Ricky Gervais said it best at his last Golden Globes hosting, he said what we were all thinking. And he’ll go down in history as the marked death spiral for award shows.
This is exactly what I was thinking, thank you
Everything in America is going in rampade
That’s a lot of our politicians too. Many are part of the 1%.
CEOs are no exception
Exactly.
Interesting that the narrator in this video suggests a "lack of diverse voices" has contributed to the decline in viewership. He's absolutely correct, but not in the way he thinks he is.
It's not that there aren't enough women/black people/Martians/etc. that's the problem; it's that so many people who win give speeches promoting leftist social agendas. Ordinary people are tired of having this garbage shoved down their throats.
The people who are nominated for (or win) these awards are obviously (usually) very talented in their fields; that doesn't mean anybody wants to hear about their personal political opinions and beliefs. If my mechanic started lecturing me about social issues every time I had my car serviced, I'd be finding a new mechanic very quickly.
The problem is these awards are going to people out of touch with their audience and hypocritical of the values they "pretend" to promote.
People should stop acting like actors were so different back in the day. We just didn’t know anything about them with no social media.
@@lexis4490 back in the day, actors were different. Actors like James Stewart or David Niven or Charles Branson were actual war veterans, who went through and saw horror like we couldn’t imagine. But did they fly on personal private jets and then complain about us using normal gas run cars? No. The current generation of actors are mostly in the business because of nepotism. No wonder millions of people are looking for other countries to get their entertainment fix. Hollywood’s top actors are barely worth the ticket price. IP matters most and they’re being ruined quickly by the new Hollywood elite on a yearly basis too.
So who should get these awards?
In truth, OscarsSoWhite hurt viewership, as the sudden barrage to force feed more diversity resulted in potential viewers to sense a predetermined outcome based less on merit and more on skin color and gender.
Justified or not, it certainly gained that perception and turned Everyday Joes and Janes off. Woke Hollywood was all giddy about it, but they comprise a small subset of society.
@@hellogoodbye4061 👏👏👏👏👏
Why should I watch people give themselves awards and trophies?
As a 28 year old, watching award shows reminds me of my grandparents from the 90’s lol
Lol, I’m older than you. I’m 42, and I don’t think I’ve ever watched the Emmy or the Oscar’s.
lol oh dear
Same here
Wow
In the last decade, I've seen too many good movies neglected by the Oscar's, and too many movies I did not enjoy win awards. As such, they are no longer "must see" for me. Maybe its because of all the money being spent on promotion campaigns.
Exactly! Up until about 2010, you had actually heard of the movies nominated and already enjoyed seeing them. Now I am like "Anyone ever hear about or see these movies?" Seems like they are more of an ad campaign for the actual movies no one has heard of. They are not the "Best" movies of the year either.
Now they use political narrative. So things like skin color, origins of the director/star of the film, et cetera have a greater impact. It's not meritocratic anymore, they are much more subjective right now. That's the point with liberal hysteria and political activism over quality. I wouldn't pay a dime to watch it.
@@leonardos2925 thats actually NOT what I was thinking, but thanks for pitching in your 2 cents.
@@markpfeifer1402 i didn't said that you were thinking that. The comment was directed to anyone, that's why i didn't mentioned your "@". And don't worry, the two cents will not impact me, i'm a wealthy Brazilian guy (Wealthy for American standards as well). Have a good one LOL.
@@dacripe The best movie should be the one's that bought in the most money, and the most viewers.
They didn't do homework in the intro Award shows aren't dying the format and medium are. Video Game Awards in 2020 had 80million viewers versus 10million in Oscars in 2021.
Bingo! Yeah this was sloppily done; even qualify informational video is dying out from all the low quality journalism out there- things are being washed out but still promoted as the same quality!
The problem with using the video game awards are frankly more worthless the Oscars which for the record are also worthless is that videogame award also are basically ad show with a trailers and announcements how many people actually are watching for the awards though is up for debate gave those 80 million maybe 5,000 the vast majority are there for trailers so you can't really use them as metric to why the Oscars are dying
Were the Video game awards broadcasted on TV?
Or livestream online?
They're end up with a lot less than 80 million if they become woke like the Oscars.
I never really understood why watching rich people give each other awards is considered entertainment.
as someone who actually watches it religiously in this day and age, NO ONE wants to sit through hours of filler for something that can easily be compiled into a quick 10 minute video on UA-cam the next day. In recent years I've found myself rolling my eyes more at the winners, and honestly, some of movies nominated like Nomadland are completely ignored by general audiences.
Chill out
All those award shows are so bias that they aren’t a true measure of success anymore. The dwindling ratings of these award shows are proof of that. If it leads to being less shallow and recognizing the authentic talent/skill than that would be better for all.
EXCEPT when it comes to Lady Gaga I want to watch her do anything. And dont you DARE say otherwise.
Taylor swift beat Beyonce for an award 🤣🤣🤣
The problem with these awards over the past 15 years or so is that they are promoting movies no one has ever heard of (or actually seen). In 1998 when the Oscars had the most viewers, the main movie nominated was Titanic along with Good Will Hunting, LA Confidential, As Good as it Gets, and the Full Monty. Everyone had heard about or seen those movies. Now when the nominations are listed, I almost always say "Never heard of them."
What should be nominated instead? nowadays the most watched films are all superhero movies, action packed films and/or visual effect heavy flicks.
I think people know what Dune is

Agreed
@@starsatnightsparkle1318 Or that stupid "I take responsibility" video
I prefer to keep the more complicated political side of things seperate from specialised industries, like I don't want to talk politics with my mechanic unless I happen to be in the mood for discussion.
But people can say what they want, whether it's a small political input that was carefully thought-out or a rant fresh out of the echo chamber. I get that part of it on the individual level, and I'm confident with my general sense of the bigger picture, but in the end, the frequent hypocrisy, the weird utopian ideals, and toxic mindsets of these progressives gets to be mind-numbing. If you're grounded and humble, you still have to be quite patient to relate to it and make sense of it. I'm hoping to get there, because we all deserve to know the truth.
I care so little about these award shows (scandal or not) that I actually regretted spending 15 minutes watching this video. To be clear, its not just about the scandals, lack of diversity etc, is also that its so needlessly subjective. The fact that the Dark Knight did not get nominated best picture or that Best in such and such is more about politics than the art...its just.....arbitrary and.....kinda dumb.
THE PUBLIC ARE NO LONGER FALLING FOR AWARDS WON THROUGH PAYOLA AND MARKETING. THESE ARE JUST PR SHOWS FOR MOVIES THAT THE PUBLIC DON’T EVEN LIKE.

The WOKENESS Is putting these award shows in jeopardy. Although this video tried to insinuate that wokeness is needed to save these shows. Not hard to figure out that the steps they are taking to try to save the shows (three female hosts) is EXACTLY the stuff that drives people away.
Coachgang! yup, I agree. they try to use lack of diversity, M2 etc as a reason for declining viewership...but the reality is that most average people do not want to waste 3 hours of their life watching boogie rich people give each other trophies it has no entertainment value.

We don't rely on awards to tell us how good an actor/actress is there are many streaming platforms and the young generation does not hold the Oscars to such esteem
We're sick of seeing the same 5 artists win awards 5 years in a row.
All you have to do is read through the comments to see why. But no, you interview people "in the industry" and give a hundred excuses, all while being oblivious to the actual reason. Typical Hollywood and MSM. And there is your answer.

If the people producing these shows ditch traditional channels and made a deal with UA-cam to stream it live, they would have a much higher viewership.
They still wouldn't... But if they opt to be authentic, yes their views will improve... UA-cam or not...
They aren't giving up that billion dollar revenue stream that easily. Thousands of people are paid their salaries from the advertising received. Hell no they ain't just moving platforms without a fight from everyone.
All actors and actresses are already full of themselves. It’s just the nature of the business. If you’re an actor or actress you inherently already possess some form of narcissism.

I agree that younger audiences consume their media differently nowadays. Also I must say the nominees of the big six categories, the four acting, directors and best film, are usually films that have light viewership . It’s tough to get people to care about films that had relatively small audiences.
I can live without them
me too
I don’t care about this awards, a part of Joker, I don’t watch any that won an Oscar, I watch movies that I feel good, screw Drama, I have enough in my life, the movie industry forget what is all about Stories, good Stories. Not Awards.
I'll save you 15 min of your life. The Oscars got woke and went broke. Your welcome.
Actually people just stopped caring because there are bigger issues in this world than millionaires and billionaires congratulating themselves for doing nothing
Literally not what it said smh.
It's not what it said
I’m surprised that someone actually still watching Oscar ceremony.
Reasons?
1) So much more better things to watch now, practically unlimited information and videos. People just don’t have enough time to even pay attention to Oscar ceremony
2) People (I hope) still have critical thinking and understand when someone is just trying to sell them any kind of agenda
3) Newer generation has already developed “clip” way of observing information. Unless it’s cut into few highlights and posted on TikTok or TikTok alike media, no one really care what was going on there
A lack of diversity and declining TV viewership are part of the reason, but not the main reason. The biggest problem with these award shows and today's audiences comes down to one word: AUTHENTICITY. With the advent of UA-cam, TikTok, and other forms of social media, people have begun to vibe more with a down-to-earth set of creators online who they share values with and they feel make genuine content from a good place. Actors, actresses, and the awards show glitz and glamour feels very hypocritical and pissy to modern audiences, especially when celebrities preach to the audience about social justice, which even as a liberal I find very condescending. People don't want to see millionaires patting themselves on the back. This isn't new for celebrities, but social media has made this lack of touch with the average people and the modern ideas of the world completely transparent to the masses, making millions of people turn on the entire concept of mainstream celebrity status. Art is important to celebrate, but the way awards shows are done presently needs to be scrapped for something more with the masses, rather than celebrating the 1%.
Even this analysis is so out of touch with audiences and speaks volumes why legacy industries are fading into obscurity. This video didn't even touch on some of the most obvious and basic reasons why young people and people in general do not care at all to tune it. Good luck.
Yeah, most cord-cutters or cable never-subscribers are due to cost. I've encountered many 20-somethings who don't even have their own place, their own TV, or family-share their Netflix sub, so a $200-300/mo cable subscription is well out of their affordability range.
Add to that the formulaic nature of US broadcast TV these days, and the dreary lame jokes at the awards shows, and it just feels like they're being out-competed by superior, lower-priced products.
All the teenagers in my country dont go see movies anymore. They only play games on their phones.
I quit watching decades ago once I decided these are popularity shows. Comedy actors are consistently ignored.
this documentary aged well lol
The Oscars was moderately enjoyable until they started woke-splaining and virtue signaling. Its condescending to see a crowd of millionaires self-congratulating each other all the while lecturing us Americans how we're evil, ignorant, whatever-phobic, and systemically corrupt. I stopped watching and caring about them and celebrities ever since they started doing this.
The video game industry is larger than the film and music industry combined and growing... people dont care about movies aside from super hero movies which are ignored by these award shows
Video game is larger than film and music industry what crack are you on dude The world still relies on Films and music when it comes to entertainment delusional Just so you know Film Industry and Music gross more than games
I agree.
Erm no…
It's larger by some metrics because of mobile gaming. Millions of people download an app and play it for 10-15 minutes at a time.
The awareness of its accessibility is what quibi was aiming for. But frankly you can't really compare the two because of the mobile market and competitive gaming skewing the numbers.
Games take either a very long time or a very short time and the biggest profit generators are tailor made to be addictive and incentivize spending.
The visual story telling format is very similar but the industries are very different.
@@hermeslein6614 video gaming is a $200 billion industry, you m oro n. Read before commenting on something outside your grasp.
Aside from what the other commenters have mentioned, I see a deeper issue (maybe it’s wishful thinking on my part). We have been celebrating actors, making their opinions and lives disproportionally relevant compared to those of people who have actually studied, invented, discovered, created, or built something of significance. Maybe people are waking up to that.
Those award shows killed themselves when they traded integrity for ratings/profits and virtue signaling.
It’s hard to give credibility organizations heavily influenced by a set ideals.
We're all sick of watching the rich & privileged pat themselves on the back....I mean it's not enough they make millions?? Where r the awards for the front line workers? Way tooo many award shows for the spoiled..
Perhaps the Academy should pay Netflix to stream it instead. We only watch UA-cam and Netflix now and hardly ever watch TV due to overwhelming bombardment of advertising and propaganda.
I watched them as a child and quit in my mid 20's. These days those shows exist to push agendas and hold on to an era that seemingly ended more than 10 years ago.
Well said!
A bigger industry problem… There’s such a big divide between popular media and “award worthy” stuff. Why watch if you’re not rooting for something?
I have no plans to watch the Oscars or Emmys. Let me rephrase that. I plan to not watch the Oscars and the Emmys.
Traditional TV audience in general has dropped dramatically. There's all kinds of ON-DEMAND entertainment platforms out there led by Netflix that even lets you speed up the videos so you could see more for less time, which is perfect for shortened attention spans and infinite choices and content. The last thing that would compete with those are long, drawn-out live shows with numerous interruptions for advertising.
It’s also the lack of trust between us movie watchers and the the key decision makers of the Academy Awards. At this point me personally I find this ceremony artificial where also moviegoers are finding much more appreciation to indie and foreign films.
It's very telling how this analysis blatantly and comically ignores the biggest and most obvious reason for the decline of award shows... The virtue-signalling and over-politicisation of practically every aspect of the ceremonies, from the nominations to the speeches... It's all clearly a facade and people are starting to notice the bullsh*t that these people are promoting... The arrogance, the indifference and the disconnection from reality.
The world isn't getting any easier to live in. So if I'm going to waste time and indulge in escapism, it's not going to be wasted on a bunch of disconnected wealthy people having a party about how amazing they all are. I'm much better off losing track of time playing Minecraft.
Of course academy, since people are not so interested on your awards, the best idea is to remove 8 categories from the live stream. So that the few who were still watching won’t have no more interest on watching a shorter version of the event. You really have not idea what normal people like nowadays and that’s the reasons why those awards will come to a dramatic end. Not worth watching it.
When awards shows became platforms for celebrity virtue signaling most of us checked out.
I got tired of the winners giving political speeches.
Man when I was a kid all I wanted to be was a movie maker. The kids now just want to be social media influencers.
Times change
Right, guess what? They are the content creators you aspired to be. Except now, no need to kiss rings, get sodomized by executives. Think before you open your pie hole😂😂
Okay?
Ok?
Easy money to sell your soul
The fact that they didn’t mention how political these awards shows have become wasn’t mentioned is a testament to CNBC’s bias.
Yes I was waiting for them to mention that
For some reason they keep pandering to people that don't want to watch award shows!!
Actual movie lovers get shortchanged.
Yeah I think their general viewership would rise if they returned to their roots and actually focused it around the art of film itself.
More like the folks who have access to the awards-bait movies/TV, and are likely to actually watch them, are older than the advertisers would like. Even if they shifted the viewership counting methodology to include "trending" or reaction posts and the like, people who care about this stuff tend to be in their 40s/50s+, well beyond the usual advertiser target demo.
7:56 let me tell you what killed the "Oscars show".. It was when they started accusing it for "Oscars So white". That happened in 2015. Look at the graph in that time stamp all the following years it nose-dived..
No it wasn't because people AGREED with that statement.. It was because the very next year Oscars turned to "Oscars so black and agenda and all fun zapped out"..
Ever since that hashtag it's been downhill. They've been constantly trying to go more and more "PC". There has been nothing but agendas. Metoos to LGBTQ to POC lessons and tirades. It zapped all the fun and comedy and entertainment out of it.. It was lectures and slaps in the faces all the time. Then it became the "Hate Trump train and tell the world"..
Is there a wonder why people got sick and tired of it? A bunch of entitled people that are filthy rich telling us what to think.. These celebrities telling us what to vote for and trying to make everyone feel bad etc..
THAT is what killed these Award shows.. Of course streaming doesn't help. But people can tune into these things if they are FUN and without lectures.
Your family should be your heroes and celebrities.
These Hollywood folk are just people.
And "Oscars so white" directly means "America so white."
I can just go to internet and see who wins, read reviews and recommendations. Some films may worth seeing but both actors and staff are doing stupid things, thinking they're above the law, and forcing SJ messages to us. Streaming sites also killing theaters so profits are low. Its up to us audience to decide who and what films we pay to see.
the "diverse" or "equity" aspect will drop the ratings even lower... it's just making it worse, more hypocritical, more pretentious, more woke, more virtue signaling... etc...
Let's be honest, Thanksgiving isn't the same as it was 15-20 years ago. While eating dinner people are on Facebook making posts, viewing posts and uploading pictures. In the past, most people relied heavily on T.V. for the majority of their entertainment, but now people are more entertained by social media. Traditional t.v. isn't where it is anymore, so almost everything that goes along with this will take some sort of hit.
People don't like being preached to. My family watched together for a pleasant night of escapism while seeing who was right about guessing the winners. We just got sick of rolling our eyes over all the political messaging.
I don't know about you, but for me the nail in the coffin was when the award recipients started behaving as if the acceptance podium was their personal political Soap Box...
👍
I'm glad that people are finally opening their eyes
I hate award shows. I hope they never come back.
Very heartening to see that my vibes on award shows finds common ground with others. These award ceremonies' decisions, perception of artistic value, and even values don't align with mine.
Why watch something that I have no participation over and doesn't even reflect what I find to be good? I wouldn't support that. They can have their own thing, and if their choices and values reflect the majority then they'll continue to do well. If their choices and values does not, then they'll just get replaced.
Hopefully award shows in the future will have more interactive input from its viewership to better reflect values and opinions.
They could also go back to being private and exclusive. Which would hopefully recreate the mystic and air they once had.
go woke go broke real people are sick of this crap
These award shows never encouraged me to watch any movie or tv show. Rarely did a movie or show on that I like get nominated or even win. This discourages me from even wanting to watch a long, drawn out, often times tedious, self loving award show. I also don't bother listening to acceptance speeches as they also never held my interest.
It might get more viewers if the Oscar's get less political and less woke. I quit watching 5 years ago.
The Oscars tense to give more awards to films I haven't even heard of and it seems like they prefer to use their awards as a way to promote what they deem to be "good" art so that more average people will watch it. And these "good" art movies aren't movies which sound entertaining to me. Why would I watch when it's a whole lot of pomp and circumstance to tell me what I should watch because it's "good" art?
Like when "out of africa"(all white cast) beat the color purple(all black cast) the beggining of the end. Also Rocky, where black fighters are weaker and inferior to "white fighters"😂🤣😂🤣

Bah! The main reason is that no good movies are being made, so no good movies are being awarded.
Nobody watch the movies that are actually awarded.
From a bloke in the UK … Hollywood seems to forget that people want to escape from the real world when watching movies. We couldn’t give a s*^t about US politics. From a left leaning person, it’s honestly all very transparent, insincere and seems to create awful cinema on the whole.Completely f**ked comedy too which is a travesty.
I'd rather watch the Game Awards every year when there's always new and world first announcements to see compared to other awards shows that are just that, awards.
I just realized this video is 3 weeks old... That's how much I don't care about Hollywood award shows and how little they even pop up on my radar 😅😅
Also the category for animation is becoming the Disney/Pixar awards show. They give very little chances to anime from Japan.
That category was basically paid for by Disney. It didn't exist until they petitioned for it - I believe the year Beauty and the Beast was up, and folks thought it should get Best Picture. I agree that it's not right, but the Oscars were always about Studio Hollywood, from the very start.
Some of the people who vote for the winners for best animated feature dont even watch all the nominees. They think “my kid enjoyed it so im gonna choose that one” as if kids are the only people who watch and enjoy animated films and so their opinion is all that matters. Disney wins almost every time. Why would i watch the awards show when i already know who’s gonna win?
The most successful movies in 2021 which got great reviews are as follows: Spider-Man, Shang-chi, no time to die, a quiet place, free guy, jungle cruise. Not a single one of these movies got nominated. Why should people care if award shows don’t care about what the audience likes.
Award shows meant something when movies and TV were the only accessible media for most people. Back then, you didn't really have a way of knowing what you wanna watch so it was prudent to get the opinion of the industry's best and brightest stars at the time. Being able to put an "Award-winning" banner on your poster or video cover would almost guarantee success. Nowadays, people a spoiled for choice and social media being able to bring like-minded communities together more easily, people simply watch what they like because they can find it much easier. And most of the time, what people want to watch is not what the Oscars and Emmys are peddling.
So many of these comments blast the wealthy & famous actors/actresses, but only 4 Oscar categories are for those who are IN FRONT of the camera; the remaining categories are Behind it (makeup, visual effects, score, screenplay, etc.). I don't know how wealthy those people are, but I GUARANTEE they're not NEARLY as famous as the people we see on screen!
People lost interest in watching award Ceremonies because there favorites do not win or they have never heard of the movie. I would rather check online who won than watching it to be honest
1- They have gotten too political
2- The entertainment industry has expanded from TV shows and movies to social media. Viewers have evolved from passive audiences to content creators. Some of them becoming equally successful as many movie stars. So people no longer value solely Hollywood for entertainment. Now there are organic stars on every platform out there.
3- They keep broadcasting these events mainly on TV, while having to pay if you want to stream it. It should be streamed online for free.
Films are getting worse to watch. That's why. Like Oscars have had mostly bad shallow taste films nominated. Who nominated them?
I can't sit and watch 4/5 hours long award shows. I just wanna know the winners.
All is scripted, DA!
"Call on the Lord in the day of trouble,
and He will deliver you."
-Psalm 50: 15
I don't know a single person who watches any of this crap.
I would watch it if I could stream it live on any of the streaming services I already have, or if I could pay a small one-time fee. I don't have cable, and I think the show's value is only in watching it live. If I can't watch it live, I'd rather read the list of winners online after the show, and maybe watch clips of viral moments, if any, on youtube.
They really need to consider the one time fee option. Maybe even do it as a subscription for $19.99/year where you can watch a package of award shows live or something. It needs to be considered and tested. Maybe $1.99 or $2.99 for broadcast live tv so we can live tweet about it......they should have gotten an excessive amount of data over the last 6 days since the Will and Chris debacle that should allow them to pivot into a win-win situation. They need to do something to recognize the folks who got overshadowed for one without being overly apologetic.
@@DJRenee yeah. as long as it's tied to a cable subscription, they're limiting the total number of people they can potentially reach.
Who cares about rich people congratulating themselves
the reason i dont watch these anymore is because when we got rid of satellite TV we started subscribing to things like netflix, disney plus, crave... none of them stream awards shows so theres no where for me to watch
Incredible how you get it so wrong. "Diversity" (or should I point out "forced diversity) and political correctness is what is killing Hollywood. This is exactly the kind of attitude that everybody is tired of.
Right cause "white folk" deserve to be the only ones on an artificial world that the world got tired of shoving down are throughts. 😂😂
The backlash against diversity is white America, particularly men, gatekeeping their power and privilege.
Today you can almost always know which movie is going to win.... Some drama about a divorced mother who probably suffered violence and has children (one of them probably lgtbq and one of them probably does drugs) and has to work multiple jobs, the father is probably in jail, etc, etc. The industry has just become flooded with these types of movies.
The death of award shows. Is that a promise?
The awards are handed to garbage movies that most normal people don’t watch. To fix them, the award shows need to factor in commercial performance. Simple factor of overall reviews and commercial performance should have resulted in Spider-Man, avengers and a lot of popular movies being nominated… people would definitely turn out to watch.
Award ceremonies are boring.
I don't think its because of diversity issue or any of the nonsense mentioned here, I think people are just simply on other platforms like netflix, youtube, xbox, etc. Time is precious and I certainly wouldn't waste my time watching that garbage either.
even if they put this on Netflix, UA-cam etc most people still wont watch because who wants to waste their time watching rich people give each other trophies??
The fact is that what many people watch isn't even considered. Vlog's as a weekly entertainment is much more popular than broadcast television. Additionally, over-the-air television is free, yet the networks want to charge to stream television shows with commercials. Additionally, feature films as a place to experience a dramatic narrative isn't what people want. I cut the cord almost 20 years ago and broadcast television as well as features in theaters isn't what I want. I managed a theater and I'm a editor and everything is online.
Vlogs are no where near as popular, or profitable, as mainstream scripted TV and movies or reality TV.
The quality of great products is also a key factor, especially for movies. Quality TV Shows are everywhere. But good quality movies are hard to find.
Another reason is rise of Digital platforms. Earlier people had limited options, therefore they use to search for interesting movies from various event like these.
You forgot one major reason we are not watching and that is it’s all rigged
If they cancelled award shows altogether, just announced the winners on a website, and just told the winners to come pick their awards up, no one would notice the difference.
