It's rare to find a screenwriter that's gone through all the hard knocks and comes out of it still a postive, funny, and generous person. God broke the mold when he made Blake. RIP Blake. You will be missed.
RIP Blake Snyder. Taken too young - only age 51 in 2009. He was a master at analyzing and fixing screenplays. After watching and reading him, I don't see how anyone could not improve their storytelling by taking his advice. At first, i thought that following a 'template' would kill creativity. But I think it only shows you where your story differs from other stories. it's up to you to change or to keep what you wrote!
Blake Snyder's "dark night of the script" story in his last book has kept me going for the past month and made me cry the first time I read it. Having joined the half-orphan club and feeling devoid of all hope... This story and this man sharing his struggle with such warmth and good humor has been salve to sooth my wounds. RIP buddy. Hopefully you and my mom are having cocktails in the sky right now.
His Beat Sheets and movie categories gave me a new look on movies from a technical standpoint. Who woulda thunk that the Godfather and One flew over the cuckoos nest are practically the same movie? Jaws=Alien=Fatal Attraction? RIP Blake Snyder. I Re-read Save the Cat, and just received Save the cat goes to the theaters. Once I'm done reading the book, I'll order Save the cat strikes back!
@CrusadertheCat Uh... Don't you mean best 3 Books ever!!! If you only encountered 1 you better look again. Blake was the best. His good humor and bright way of encouraging us while telling us what we don't exactly want to hear and drawing a laugh out of us to ease the tension of that, made him by far the best in making writers see him as a best friend on our side. Here's someone who never met me or read my work saying You are better than this! I Know You Can! Yet every word felt sincere
I just found the book and started it. So sorry he is gone. He just seemed to have such a generous spirit. RIP
