Thank you so much for this video. Blake Snyder was truly an inspiration. I had previously seen criticism about him, referring to him as more of an arrogant, know-it-all than the humble, creative genius I found in this video. But after watching this, hearing how eloquent and passionate he is, I see that he was simply a man who LOVED movies. This was beautiful. Subscribing. Thank you again.
Great interview! Thank you. I just finished reading the book. I had no idea he was dead until I checked out the comments here. Very sad. You can tell from his voice what he was a very nice guy. I'm sure he will be missed, and readers will miss his insights
I bought the book and I liked it. practice makes percfect, in my opinion we must just practice and place our selves in the place of the director in order to be aware on where to place the camera and translate that into the script.
It's a valid comment. I have thought the same to be honest. I think it's more about the inspiration to get you writing. If it was that easy , everyone would do it. If you can take one thing from this, or any other form of explanation, then they have helped you do what it is you have set out to do.
This book IS the best screenwriting book I've EVER read! Commercial or not, GET YOUR HANDS ON THIS BOOK! I got mine...FREE from the LIBRARY! I urge you to do the same if you have doubts. You will NOT have doubts after perusing the book even a little!
I have so many Screenwriting books, and my advice is just learn the basic of Screenwriting: The Story Structure, Character Development, plotting, and the overall Scene Structure (each Character Agenda, the Conflict Escalation, the Characters' Motivations, and the Action the Characters take to fulfill his or her goals and their limitations).
To be fair. I think 95% of people who clicked on this knew it was an audio interview based on the fact the image was a photo of his book. Anybody who's used youtube for any length of time can tell an audio interview based on the fact it has an image in the screenshot. I don't think people need to be "warned" of this.
...just cannot listen to any more of this book commercial........how trite can these people be, as they listen to the whispering "....guru...." expound .now the guru is speaking about getting other writers together..please DON'T.......that is how we got the Writers Guild which is jusy a union of the meek that cannot stand up for themselves and use Movie Magic Screenwriter. It's much better than Final Draft plus MM 6 also has a great outlining tool and MM also sells other software for production.
It's not a commercial for the book, he's talking about screenwriting, and how he goes by writing scripts. Obviously he's going to talk about his book. The writers guild protects writers and gets them paid Artists aren't usually business minded. MM SUCKS! It's so not user friendly like Final Draft. There's a reason Final Draft is number one. You sound like a hipster. Or pissed off failed writer.
I miss Blake. He was a true sage. He took my call six months before he died. McKee who I also love hasn't returned my email... still love you Robert.
Thank you, hilariousbone! Blake was a very friendly and giving person, and a great friend to our show. We miss him.
I passed up this book for years, then I picked it up and it literally changed my life forever. Such a great book.

I'm so happy this interview exists. My jaw dropped when i saw the title. Too bad you don't have video. Still good. thanks
Blake was an incredibly passionate and polite guy. He was always a pleasure to chat with. Thanks for listening!

thank you thank you thank you so much for this!!!
Blake sounded like a giving person beyond his insight into story
He was a wonderful, generous guy, and always a pleasure to speak with.
How is it that all these masters of screenwriting never seem to be able to get their scripts made in to good movies?
Being a player and being an observant analyst require different things. I could know every tactic on how to play poker and not be a good player.
It's a valid comment.

The guy at 15:00 . The caller who has nothing to say…but wants to dial into a radio show anyway.
He died August 4, 2009. Why on earth did it take nearly three years to get this interview on the air? Weird!
Development Hell.

2 credits for writing ?
And he got a Raspberry for worst screenplay for one of those.
***** would you mind sharing where you found this info ?
He mentions some of them in his book. Might be bullshit though.
At least he has SOME credits. 99% of the manuscript gurus on UA-cam with tons of views and fans have never made a single movie in their life.
59.15 min. commercial
This is not a video, it's an audio file with a pic attached to it... you n eed to warn people about that.
