I refused to watch Series 1 (and the Christmas Special) after RTD screwed up the 60th anniversary... so I have zero interest in buying it on Blu ray.
But I will continue to buy the classic series season sets.

@@jarnopp All of them really... but if I had to narrow it down to just one that I really wanted... probably Patrick Troughton's 2nd Series.
Honestly, I've been extremely happy with what we've been getting with these classic sets. Last month we here in North America finally got Peter Davison's 2nd Series (which the U.K. got last year)... and in a couple of weeks, we're finally going to get caught up with the U.K. with Tom Baker's 4th Series.
I can't wait to watch the "Behind The Sofa" featurettes.

This set is not for me im more interested in collecting the classic era blu ray the collection sets and the price is way to much.nice clear description of the set thanks.

This seems like a pretty nice set all things considered. The commentaries are nice but the highlight for me here is including one of the Tales of the Tardis episodes; I’m in the US and we don’t get any of those officially so it’s nice to have a physical copy of at least one. On the other hand, it would have been nice to include the rest of the Tales from the Tardis or do a “Behind the Sofa” equivalent for the new season, and a lot of those features are the short UA-cam videos they’ve been uploading lately. Either way, I doubt we’re getting a US release of this season anytime soon thanks to the DisneyPlus deal (we still don’t have the 60th anniversary specials or Church on Ruby Road) but at this point I’ve invested in a region free player and will take what I can get!

The pricing for the steelbook is a rip off. Previous steelbooks have been between £25 and £35, and this one is £60! I cant see any reason for the price increase, the price is higher than 4K Blu Ray steelbooks for other shows (and this release isnt even 4K!)

I found looking at the pyramids of mars with new fx was bits cut out of it
Season 14 came out in 1976-77. The box set came out in 2020.
Surely that was SERIES 14. 🧐😆
@@jarnopp series 14 does not exist and won't unless the show gets rebooted again. It is called season 1!! I don't get why everyone is so upset over having to reset the numbering!

"Another letdown"... I'll buy it, because I buy all of them, but..
It does seem that all the extras here have already been released online, either on UA-cam or on iPlayer. I didn't do a full inventory, so I'm not 100% sure, but... That seems to be the case.
Will get much better quality off 1080p blu, though.

1:22 - They have a typo in there. It says unleased vs unleashed.
It is mostly stuff from online but it isn't that bad to have it in a more central place. I don't think the offical doctor who youtube channel has a playlist.
Ultimately the new series blurays will never have better special features than the classic series. Even though this is stuff mostly available online it is still more than a lot of shows will have.
What do people even expect? Retrospective stuff can't exist because this is was made in 2023. The main thing is a physical copy things can just be removed off streaming.

Think it’s a shame the set isn’t 9 discs with one disc per episode with the unleashed episodes on the same disc as the story they connect to.

New box set looks impressive and is comparable with DR Who collection.
I have ordered standard box set because it looks like Dr Collection sets. I think that the extra content justifies the £ 50 cost.

Yeeees. But when the steelbook is £60, and most of the material is available on iplayer or free on UA-cam, the pricing has to reflect that.
The current costs are simply too high to be justified.
The problem with the season 14 box set is that it features season 14

Steelbook looks beautiful as always, and of course I'll be buying it (I've had it on pre order since it went up, which i think was before the series had even aired!)
Sadly it looks like most of the extras are things already available online which is a shame, but it's far from a deal-breaker for me, especially with such a good set of episodes!
Price is a little steep though - thats Collection set level price!

Why is it not in 4K when the show was filmed in 4K? No idea what Unleashed is but why does the set not include ALL of the Tales of the Tardis episodes? We don't get those in the US.
Doctor Who Unleashed is a behind the scenes doc series , in the same mould as Doctor Who Confidential used to be. It's very good.

If they released it in a 4K version the price point would need to be even higher than blu ray.
And I'm quite okay with that.
As a fan I hate being negative but this is one of the worst seasons I've ever seen. There's only a couple of episodes I'll ever re-watch, so no way am I going to spend £60 on the steelbook (the regular version is £50. Still overpriced).

Bit disappointing. Only HD BDs, when they shot in 4K HDR and the extras are just stuff available on UA-cam and iPlayer.

@@jarnopp Since Disney has digital distribution rights in the US/North America, my guess is they're involved, and they generally don't release physical media of things they put out. It's not exclusive of course, there's some (Ted Lasso), but given the BBC these guys are doing it anyway, Disney might have gone "meh, let them deal with physical, and we'll just offer it on Disney+"

I had put the preorder in for the steelbook a while ago when I spotted on Amazon UK. Hopefully eventually get this in NA without a massive delay, but otherwise will be more than happy with a region b version ☺️

Pre ordered months ago really happy with the steelbook art. Shame the discs all seem to have the same art but just a bit pick. Probably the most jam packed modern who boxset in a while.

I know they are all the extras previously shown on UA-cam and bbci, which is I why I purposely haven't watched any until the boxset comes out. I'll happy pay that amount for the steel book. Compared to how expensive they get 2nd hand 😱 lol.
Really loved this season. Was very surprised. My only complaint is the amount of audio commentaries is atrocious. Remember Tennant era getting a commentary on every single episode. My favourite extras are audio commentaries as it's like watching the episode with the dir / act / writer and learning as you go. The classic collections are amazing for this. Modern who needs to catch up. But a decent selection none the less, am excited to watch all the unleashed episodes too.

Exactly I agree. Also to my knowledge they didn't release a blu ray compete set of the 2022 specials Eve of the Daleks, Legend of the Sea Devil and The Power of the Doctor. They only did a steelbook of the three together. With a double release for former 2 and a single release of Power of the Doctor as that had focus being the finale for Jodie.

@jarnopp Yes, you are right, but I didn't need too. The 60th specials that I did see gave me a Glimpse of what this series was gonna be. More of the same, and I was right. It's not for everyone anymore.

I would never buy this in a million years, and I have every episode going right back to the begining. This series was the worst one ever.
