how about beginner stuff for guitar like: scales, chords & progressions. It will help contextualise these amazing ideas you’ve been teaching. In other words if i was to pick up guitar and wanted to play jazz, where would i start?
OK, so just so I'm not missing something. Last episode you demonstrated playing the G7 (into E7) over the B-7b5/E7 in a minor ii-V. You are suggesting that the F-6/dim scale can also be used for the same thing. We changed keys, so applied to last episode it would be a B-6/dim scale. So as not to be confused by the keys, in the first minor ii-V we used the bVII7 into V7 to build lines from. This time we are playing the ii-6/dim scale over the same changes. Two great sounding alternatives for the same playing situation. Or am I misunderstanding what you were doing in this video?
Bmin7b5 is really Dmin6 with the 6th in the bass. Fmin6 can be played as a substitution for E7. In this episode i'm just pointing out the pretty sounds of the Eminor6th diminished scale and how over F#min7b5 to B7 I used the D# diminished to play a little phrase. I hope this clears it up.
There is just so much in each of the lessons. Its Awesome. Thanks you
Thank you Jim. Glad you're enjoying. Barry's stuff is never ending.
Barry has what seems to be an entire world of concepts that I've missed out on; it's so inspiring! Thank you for sharing!
I still feel that way about Barry's method. Truly amazing.
Glad you're enjoying these videos.
You’re a great teacher, keep up the great work!
You sound great and a wonderful lesson!! It sounds like a Bud Powell lines.
A famous Greek bouzouki player really nails the minor 6th diminished sound ! His name is Manolis Chiotis !
can you show me some examples?
I'm available for skype lessons if you'd like. Email me at chrisparksjazz22@gmail.com
Lots of good stuff here, excellent lesson!
Thanks Pete
I sometimes refer to the 6th as C# or Db. Just to clarify, I'm referring to the same note.
Wicked lesson!!
Chris could you do a video where you apply Barry's concepts to a jazz standard with chord analysis.
Great idea. Good for a future lesson.
Excellent!
When would you use dominant Diminished over a dominant chord instead of the important minor6, or tritone's minor?
I mean could you apply it as a Chord Melody so we can see the advantages....Thank you
Barry said only scale we should know is this 6 dim scale do you realy agree that?

I'll try to make a few lessons geared for people just starting to play Jazz.
I also give skype lessons if you're interested.
I teach all levels.

Do you give online classes?
Yes. Email me at chrisparksjazz22@gmail.com
The 6th of the E minor 6th would be spelled C# not Db!!
He’s leaving room to name the natural C note ( flat 6). 8note scale. Semantics.
