  • We found where our Sprinter's roof was leaking (finally!) and got it sealed up using a combination of POR15 and Eternabond tape.
    We had a little trouble with the Eternabond not sticking, but I believe it is my own fault! You have to really rub this tape hard to "activate" it, and after being on the roof for so long, I was overheating and had to call it a day. I am going to have to take a hair dryer up on the van and heat it up and rub it to get it to re-attach to the roof really well. We plan to eventually paint over this all with monstaliner which will make it all look much prettier :).

    How long did you wait between doing the ospho to doing the Por15 and then doing the eternabond tape? Was that all in one afternoon or did you spread it out over multiple days? I read that Ospho takes a day to cure...

    i had similar fail, epoxy sealers dont last longer than 10-15 years so mine kind of crumbled out
    i wirebrushed with a grinder back to bare metal and acid treatment then por-15
    but i put 3M seam sealer tape on, which when you paint over the solvents activate the sealer and make permanent bond, its almost identical to the factory seam.
    also por15 bubbles, so make sure you thin it down or there will be trapped bubbles and bubble holes in the paint

    Hi, thanks for posting. Can you share how wide is the eternabond tape for the roof seams 2" , 3" or 4" . Any new suggestions on thinks you'd do differently? Thanks.

      Its about 2". I think if I did it again I'd use a lap sealant that's paint able instead of the tape. And sand it down before painting to fill the space better. I say all this because painting over eternabond tape isn't GREAT. It works but it ends up splitting with time.

      Splitting doesn't leak, just makes the paint look less cohesive. Still sealed up we'll 👍

      @@projectvagrant8197 thanks for the reply. you would sand down the lap sealant or the metal joint on the roof or both? Thanks!

    • @projectvagrant8197
      @projectvagrant8197  3 роки тому

      @@mjcalla both but in my sentence I meant the lap sealant just so it would look cohesive with the paint over it

    have you ended up painting over them? how did it come out? any picture or video?

      I did paint over the tape. Initially it looked fine, but now that it's been a while the tape has cracked the paint at the seams but it's still holding the leak fine. Just looks a little eh. It would probably be better to use a lap sealant that can be sanded & painted for best results cosmetically 👍

    Hey man looking to fix similar issues in my van, how has it held up? Any leaks?

    • @projectvagrant8197
      @projectvagrant8197  4 роки тому

      This has held up just fine. I even painted over the tape lol. Just make sure you do good prep work it's definitely the most important. If you end up deciding to go a sealant route instead just make sure you use a polyurethane and not a silicone. 👍
