    The somewhat noisy thing is easily rectified by filling the pot above the outflow... Not sure why you would use water sparingly to get the waterfall effect.

    I haven't read through all the comments, but aren't you supposed to immerse the Joule in enough water so that the outflow is also underwater? I haven't seen any other Sous Vide review/video where you could actually see the outflow like the waterfall thing you show in your video . . .

    Very professionally done. I was (still am?) a noob, so thanks Erin!

    Quite informative and helpful! My only "complaint" has also been around the lack of notification customization for the reasons you stated. Thanks for a good review and how-to.

    For country like mine Indonesia sousvide its not popular because the electricity is limited by 1,1kwh or 2,2kwh per house. I use rice cooker 1,8liter 300watt 220volt price around 17USD and for the thermostat use "sonoff th10 wifi". I think sometimes you must try to cook sousvide with cheaper and low watt tools so everybody can enjoy sousvide.

    Erin, my concern/issue is that my joule keeps “disconnecting” and the circulator turns off 🥺 The convenience of a long SV cook is not having to eyeball it the entire time. You can go out for the day, go to work, or go to sleep. I have a bottom round in the bath right now, went to sleep last night and woke up to 106* water, and no circulation. Any suggestions ?? Is this common ? WiFi & Bluetooth are both very finicky as we know

    I just saw your review on the Joule sous vide and I will admit your review is way better than all the ones that I have come across. Also I have had my Joule for two years since it came out and I am finely enjoying it did to the updates. I still have a problem connecting through my WiFi but it's manageable.. I will be checking out your web site in the near future...

    When you enter the item to be cooked, joule will provide a cook time. I just use my smart phone timer for audible alarms as well as joule notification. I also bought a plastic water tub that sits on my counter for cooking. Does not need to be on the stove. The clip works well with the water tub. The other advantage is no smell while cooking in the water. Smell only during last few minute browning. Especially nice for seafood smells that linger.

    Great review! Just wondering, what happens if you leave the house and lose connection with Joule? Does the cooking continue and do you still get notifications on your phone when it's done? Thanks.

      @ErinLawrenceTV  6 років тому

      Hmmm... it's been a while since I did that. If I remember, it keeps cooking, you just don't get updates. I'll check next time I sous vide.

    I didn't know such a thing existed. Blew my mind.

    Will the joule work when the phone is not nearby? For example will it keep cooking if I have to go to the store.

    • @ErinLawrenceTV
      @ErinLawrenceTV  4 роки тому

      Yes it will. But you may not be able to monitor it from afar

    3:10 no waiting 10 mins use warm/hot tap water when u start out

    • @liptovskeGeno
      @liptovskeGeno 4 роки тому

      water port? why dont use hot water to water tea or coffee, why do you use cold and boil it instead? because hot tap water is not healthy to drink. UNAGI

    • @liptovskeGeno
      @liptovskeGeno 4 роки тому

      and in this case it will dirt your Sous Vide machine sooner if you use hot tap water.

      I keep getting an error for low water. I have enough water, double checked and measured. Next thing it said to do was clean it. Odd because it's new out of the box, but tried that too. It will turn on for about two seconds and repeat the error. I sent them e message but it is the weekend so not expecting to hear until Monday. Bummed about it.

    • @ErinLawrenceTV
      @ErinLawrenceTV  6 років тому +1

      Definitely try cleaning it. Mine was whistling like crazy and i ran it with a vinegar/water bath and that fixed it. I think our hard water up here gummed it up. Mine's only 3 months old. Here's how: erinlyyc.com/2018/04/25/joule-sous-vide-machine-whistling-fix/

    Is this a 1 serving at a time cooking device? I have a family of 6 & wouldn’t want to to prepare 1 piece of meat at a time.

    • @ErinLawrenceTV
      @ErinLawrenceTV  5 років тому

      Good question Karanda. You could do a boatload of food with this; just use a bigger pot and more water to accommodate the food.

    Can I use it to pre-heat rocket fuel?

  • @hoobertie
    @hoobertie 5 років тому

    Overcooking is just as much about length of time so it doesn't matter if the temperature is held after it's cooked.

      Only if you are a stickler for a certain texture. 72 hour beef ribs are just as red and juicy as 1 hour.

    Could have talked more about the need to seal everything in a bag. Do I need to buy a vacuum sealing machine too?

    • @ErinLawrenceTV
      @ErinLawrenceTV  6 років тому

      Hi Lorin, Maybe that's a whole different video! You don't need a vacuum packing machine; heavy duty ziplocks and Mason jars also work just fine. Thanks for watching.

    • @bostonbesteats364
      @bostonbesteats364 6 років тому

      No, for many meat recipes you don't need to vacuum sealer. Just use freezer-grade Ziplock bags and press the air out by hand (look up "water displacement method online). But a vacuum sealer is more important if you want to sous vide vegetables (they tend to outgas and the bag then floats). Also check out all the recipes on ChefSteps.com, which are excellent. I'm making sous vide dill pickles today. :-)

    Why not just buy a thermometer and set the water temperature to the appropriate level in the pot and cook out of a bag. the fancy $200 product doesn't make sense to me

    Now chefsteps has made it totally useless with the app update, forcing you to sign in and give your location to use it. My location is none of their business and I shouldn't have to sign in to turn it on. Buy one that has the controls on the top.

    😡 Biggest piece of CRAP ever. Cannot connect and once it does it says it needs to UPDATE. After it updates it says, "READY". I click to cook and it says, "SOMETHING WENT WRONG" . I check and it says, "UPDATE FAILED". I've been trying for hours to get this thing connected, updated and such. Restarted, multiple factory resets, uninstalled APP, reinstalled, WAP2 blah blah blah everything and our will not UPDATE so I can cook. I have screenshots. It said, "ready" a few times and dropped the ball every time.
