Great thorough work. Would love to hear either of these classic Luxmans.

I was given one of these by a friend who was going to throw it out! Brilliant amp and a great sound.

    Nice videos, very enjoyable.
    A couple of comments.
Carby cleaner is basically acetone. It destroys everything it touches if it's not metal. I am surprised it didn't take off the silkscreen printing on your boards actually. Can't recommend anything else though. If there is anything, I haven't found it.
As for the low values of your new capacitors installed in part 1, my findings mirror yours. My interpretation is that these new capacitors must have been lying about discharged in the warehouse long enough that their capacitance went down for whatever reason. I did not check again after installation, but I wouldn't be surprised if their capacitance went up a tad after some use.

Thanks for the comment, I have since moved on to pure Toluene which is in carby cleaner for removing glue. Neither of them seem to hurt silk screen to be honest, in fact it seems less damaging than scraping the board trying to get the glue off. That said yes keep it away from plastics etc as much as possible :)

Hi what are the new tubes you put as a replacement? And why did you replace them?

6CG7 Electro Harmonix tubes. I changed them because I do not have a tube tester and removing the tubes is not simple / the holder is fragile and cannot be dismantled many times before breaking completely.

Great video on restoration. I would suggest to not populate tubes in sockets when you solder them. :-)

I normally wouldn’t but they were old tubes anyway and I wanted to keep the pins aligned as the sockets are pretty junk. Luckily my iron works very fast before heat soaking anything
