This is perfect! I am so excited to see Stedman's work. I too talk about Self-Leadership, but now I have the voice to follow and who truly leads the way we need in the 20th century. I am reading his current book: Identity Leadership and it's good stuff!

Go Ahead Stedman!....I see why he and Oprah have stuck by each others side all of these years...He seems to really complement her and seems to really be proud of her (easy on the eyes too, ;))...continued success to both of them!

    So true...
There is no use of reading self-help books if you don't make some moves!!! I believe we all know what we have to do (and that we don't need anyone else to tell us that), but for some reason we stay stuck doing nothing about it... we are afraid of following our dreams, our wishes...
GO, DO SOMETHING WITH YOU LIFE, NOW, NO MORE EXCUSES! :))

I agree that we're conditioned to think small, to fit into a socially accepted framework that works less for the individual and more for capitalism. It's not only the soul-destroying process of the education system (rote-learning etc ) that instills this robot-mentality in us, it's also through how we're conditioned at work. We're conditioned from a young age to believe that having things, paying the mortgage and having a four-wheel and struggling to get by are more important than doing what our hearts tell us to do, and when we're fed this over time it becomes very very ingrained and difficult to break.
As an example, I've just started a job in cafe, so you'd think it'd be relatively low-key. It's not. I'm expected to know everything perfectly from the get-go and am made out to be an idiot or met with militancy and anger for failing to do so, and I'm only on minimum wage! Very unrelenting and very little compassion.
Society and the workplace can be very black and white in the demands they put on us. We're definitely not often taught to enjoy what we're doing or to feel good about ourselves.
What I would say though, is that some people are OK doing the same things every day, so be careful not to lump everyone into one basket, Stedman. Stedman has also been very lucky circumstantially, not having to worry about bills and societal pressure the way most of us do.

How effective are all these self help books for actually helping people? I think in order for any person to be helped they must first be evaluated to find out what their particular issues are and what's needed for them. These books can't evaluate people. Many people may need to talk to an expert to evaluate their life and experiances and then work out a self help plan tailored for them.
