This hereditary disease has affected my family for generations. One doctor said it effects people, more men than women that come from a Celtic heritage. This includes my family. My father took the surgery route but the scarring got so bad that he couldn't even try N/A when it became available. Both of his hands were mostly unusable for his last 15 years. He even had half of his pinkie removed just to get it out of the way.I have had N/A three times on my right hand. About three years between each and they have been very successful. It's not painful at all. I'm now making an appt. for my left hand. It takes 30-45 minutes from start to finish so an appt every three years is not a problem.
No one in my family had it. Both sides from North Western Europe. I was a mechanic for 24 years working on military vehicles. I have it in both hands. No one talks about Dupuytrens. It blind sided me as it was brushed off as arthritis.
i have this, and im a musician.my dad had it....bad....and it is beginning to hurt- has this become more common now? has the price gone down any?cos like i said-im a musician-no money,no insurance-but im in a band-
Mine was painful before I even knew I had it. I was painting rooms in my house and thats what I thought the pain was from, right below my ring finger. Not long after I could feel the thick band in my palm. Yes it hurts. I am going to a hand specialist/orthopedic surgeon today. My fingers have not bent inward yet so I'm hoping they can still do the NA on it. I will not have the surgery. No one in my family has ever had this.
Sorry to say this and other treatments are ... useless. Currently contemplating open surgery though this is not proven to help and known to leave stiff fingers at best. Best wishes to all affected with Dupuytrens especially if pianists like me.
With the needle ap, do they they leave all the junk and nodules inside your hand ? I have it bad in both little fingers, I can feel the nodules on the side of my finger and in my palm.
Would this be considered a permanent disability? I'm finding that I can not work like this anymore. It's hard to hide from your employer. This is a cruel disease. I would rather have my health than any amount of money in the world.
True..same here, its also a center of discrimination in terms of the work. They doubt if you can make certain things with the conditions of the hands😭😭😭😭
I'm new here and to this condition. Real Quick, does Medicare cover this? Man...if it "ain't" one thing, it's another right? My human owners manual didn't even "touch" on this. How common is this so I can alert others approaching my age of 69?
Went through the needle procedure at the Ralph Johnson VA hospital in Charleston, S.C. about six months ago. The cord did NOT break. Totally Unsuccessful... They want to do surgery. Do you think money has anything to do with their decision for surgery even though their are NO guarantees of success... The results could be worse. Oh well they get their money irregardless...
have you seen pics pf a hand after surgery? Absolutely horrific. Both my pinkies are totally pulled inward, more embarrassing than anything else. I've done the needle with great success, however, a couple of years later it's back. There is no cure and surgery guarantees nothing. At 69 y/o I just want a few years here and there to be normal again. Good luck, I guess it's better than a lot of stuff that could happen to you
Not touching the actual band is a really good idea. Thinking outside the box. Recurrence is because it is disease. I got Dupuytren's AFTER my ABX was taken away. We need doctors who think outside the box. How about trying stem-cell treatment? Never any more steroids for me. I was given so much prednisone that I got really bad infections. I now have Lyme disease. I am sure all the steroids depressed my immune system to make me so much more susceptible than I would otherwise have been. Once you have Bb, it continues to depress the immune system so more and more pathogens take advantage of your body.
1) It does not only effect the hand, it can effect the foot and penis also. 2) Aponeurotomy is not a new proceedure. It was performed for over a century before fasciotomy. There are many other false facts but Im bored....

Alcohol
I’ve started with this… I have the nodules as well.
My mum had this disease so mum passed it down to me.
I'm in the process of having this done. I thought about letting it go, but it's very comfortable and my hand feels like it is going to sleep all time.
So Gail ... how are things now?

Hey, Catt. How'd you make out? I, too, am in "early stage" and wondering if, when I should be seeking treatment. Talk to us!! Please and thank you!

I always wondered, they can zap kidney stones with a laser, just wondering if something like that could be done.

can dupitrens cause pain it seems with me it is through the palm and up to thumb
yes it can but normally, the pain is subordinate to the loss of range of motion
Thank you. I have made my decision now. It’s. Surgery for me x
Dear Lyn, please kindly share your experience with surgery. Hope you got good results.
Mine is very painful.

Mary Jane Pastor me facing this condition since I was born. And what’s most worse with me is that it happens in my both hands and feet

and what has your family done about it?
There has to be a common denominator other than geography. I wonder if it's dietary or occupational.
It’s happening with me since I was born.
Grains especially alcohol grains
I had needle thing my diphtheria came back within 8 weeks and worse
Better to be stupid than mean.
