  • The Bachmann Class 24 is twenty years old so we have all been hoping for an update to it for quite a while. After six years of waiting for it, the new Class 24/1 is now here. Was it worth the years of anticipation? Let's find out in today's video.

Well I got to work today and a member of my team had actually gifted me one of these in be green!!!!❤️❤️❤️
    What a surprise!❤️❤️
But, wow getting that body off was tricky due to the hidden screws ...

That is a lovely model. I really don't understand why all locomotives don't come with a crew installed. For the price of locomotives, it is the least the companies can do. I can't think who wouldn't want them.

The older version had a driver in so it is a puzzle that this comes without; especially given the cab lighting.

Great review, the class 24/1 also shares the same chassis & body of the class 25/0 (slightly larger bhp engine) with a couple of minor modificationd could be renumbered to a class 25/0

Another great video Jenny, and a favourite locomotive of mine. I have 3 of the original Bachmann locos on my layout and without a doubt, they're the best runners I've got. They just keep going and going, even on dirty track. Would I invest in a new Class 24 from Bachmann?... I'm not too sure. I'm seriously considering spending a bit more and buying a Sutton Class 24.

Agreed, for that reason I don't need to buy the Bachmann anymore because my Sutton 24 has it all. It was about the equivalent of £260 including DCC Sound and postage to Australia, however I am exempt from British VAT.
Philip Sutton and Jamie Walsh are absolutely great people to deal with. They did sent me an extra bufferbeam free of charge on which I have attached a NEM coupling leaving just 3 of the 9 details and also alternative fueltanks !! Here it is : ua-cam.com/video/ABmL3MmnIMs/v-deo.html

I have 2,however much the Bachmann model is an improvement over the previous models,it simply cannot compete, especially sound wise with the SLW 24.Period.

Great review Jennifer ! And a great 24 from Bachmann as well ! I have Bachmann's first 24035 with DCC Sound and a BR Blue 24009 from Sutton.
The 24035 is a bit like the 24081 in your review but for it's time a nice 24 with quite good Sound and I keep it. The new Bachmann 24137 comes close to my Sutton 24009 especially regarding bogies, fuel tanks and battery boxes still a bit less detail but Bachmann has done a good job ! I am certainly NOT tempted to remove the body of this Bachmann ! Big difference is the BR Blue and yellow colors which is darker on the Sutton (more like the 24081) and the very modest metal handrails on the Sutton. The Sutton has an avalanche of (Sound and Light) functions as well. I wouldn't hesitate to buy this new Bachmann however !

I think the answer to your question regarding the steps is there in black and white at 6:45 - or should I say blue and yellow !!

A peco servicing cradle will help, a mag screwdriver is must. Great review and model. Thank you.

I think this is on my want list. Not a deal breaker but a crew in the nicely detailed cab would have been the cherry on top! 🍒

Nicely detailed model. The handrails on the cab doors still look massively oversized to me though.

The hand rails are better than the old model but still have room for improvement.

Wow, those screws are a pain. Great loco, though. I live you blogs. I also love your live ones with the cupboard monkey. Keep up the good work.

Lovely model but I'm confused why you had to remove the four screws below the bogies in order to remove the body. Their location seemed not to screw into the body but only the chassis, perhaps holding the motor etc to the frame.. The end pair of screws appeared to be the only ones screwing into the body.

Excellent review as always, on thing is those wiper blades, they look to be far too long and would run off the bottom of the glass if they actually worked, just a small niggle on a lovely model.

The Green Bachmann 24/1’s have steps up to the roof, and are not plated over... so they are different to the BR Blue version, and it’s not just the colour that’s different, so that’s good!

Stick a piece of Blu Tack on the end of your screwdriver. it'll hold the screws while you fiddle with Bachmann's hidden holes.

Yeah like others I don’t quite get the detailed cab but no driver . It does look good , but I’ve already got a couple of their older models so I think I’ll pass , given the price. Probably will be tempted by the 25 though .

I enjoyed your review Jenny, Is it possible to turn the brightness down on the cab lights, they are far far to bright and totally non prototypical. Keep up the great content.

It may be possible by changing certain CV values.

The screws are a pain on some locos, a thin magnet or a small screwdriver that has a magnet head are godsend, there is few screwdriver sets going about that also come with a flat head magnet driver.

White paint on the screw heads lets ye see them in poor light conditions like your loft , dry brush the screw heads in white it'll help . Theres no way to put the body on securely other than clips but thats dodgy like dapols 22....id rather it was screwed in .....🥰

Does look a lovely model indeed but just didn’t like how you have to go in blind with the screws. But it also a lovely review.

No crewe figures? Not good for a new model What over £127 quid ?
Re detailed cabs, the Hornby Class 60 has a super detailed cab interior.
