Here’s an update on Jack, the Whittaker’s dog that was injured. Larry took Jack to a veterinarian in Beckley where his leg was amputated. The vet gave Jack antibiotics and pain medication. Larry tells me that Jack is now running around and happy like nothing ever happened.
Thank you so much for taking the time to let us know that Jack was ok. He was definitely suffering. Thank you for everything that you do for this family. I know the situation is pretty bad, but I have to hand it to them. They seem to keep it going. They are definitely survivors. This is definitely a learning lesson for all of us. Thank you for serving a higher purpose.

Neat trick the dog gets hit on a virtually untraveled West Virginia skinny road, speed limit 2 MPH. And they are not in Odd. They live in Egeria, West Virginia. Why not give some back story to this with the ENDLESS efforts made by the state of West Virginia, churches, friends, etc to get cousins to understand when y'all do that schtick, babies come out all weird like? Pass laws, require blood tests, even brain washing wouldn't have stopped the people from having child after child. West Virginia had to legally force morality and common sense on people who saw one child after the next start life severely hindered. Something kept them from caring about the future generation and it shows. And if a Whitaker found love in another Whitaker cousin, many would applaud and that's just downright sad.
I would love see them do something a little extra for Betty. She sacrificed her whole life and honored her mother to care for all them. Such a great lady

Ah man... these people gave me the Hills have Eyes creeps when I first saw them. What a jerk I was. In the end we're all just "victim" of our circumstances. I was so impressed that Lucas offered to finish Ray's beard trim on his knees, so Ray could be more comfortable on the couch. That showed compassion, as well as professionalism. Kudos to this barber shop/salon!
The gentleman who cut Ray’s hair is an absolute gem. So attentive and kind, small things such as at 4:01 when Ray turns around, instead of correcting him. Lucas simply adjusts his chair do Ray can see Lorraine.
That barber Lucas was great. He was so patient with Ray, and even turned the chair so Ray could look at what he wanted to during the cut. Such a cool guy

Betty is one hell of a stand up person. I can’t imagine how much work its taken raising her family like she has. Most couldn’t do it or wouldn’t. Sadly she will probably never realize just how incredible she is
And her health has substantially declined since he began filming them. My heart goes out to her, and Lorraine seeing that she was R by her family member or God knows who to make Timmy and then the poor woman down the road from them they said Ray did God only knows to. We need to get her a Finishing Touch facial shaver for women. I didn’t see how bad her facial hair was until this video. It’s always nice to get pampered and I can tell Lorraine, Timmy and Ray even enjoyed it but I imagine Betty was a little more uneasy being the caregiver of them all and having to sit back and be pampered a little instead, plus she always has to worry about something going wrong when on these outings with Ray and Timmy so her stress is probably pretty high until getting back home. I am sure they’ve had a lot of horrific things said and done to them over the years. Having Mark there probably gave her a great deal of comfort to be honest.

@@poprock5512 she was and she said she's been cutting hair for 3 years, she never cut any hair. Ray had more hair off than the 2 girls, and Betty said take some hair off. All she did was wash and comb, I was waiting to see nice new hair cuts. I'm still pissed at that.

It's actually pretty amazing that Betty does as well as she does when it's obvious that she has intellectual difficulties. She promised to care for her siblings and she does and her nephew too. She's like a mother to all of them, it can't be easy. She does her best and that's kind of her.
I need to comment abt the lady. I think she was very rude, NO ppl personality AT ALL and she just acted like she wasn’t interested in doing their hair AT ALL! Doing tht kind of work you need to realize your gonna meet all sorts of ppl frm different walks of life. And that shld be a rewarding job as I am a Home Health worker and I’ve met all different kinds of ppl w all sorta of needs and the better I treat them the more rewarding it is for me. She was just rude ASF!
I love how Timmy loved getting his hair done. He just melted and didn’t move. I love that his barber also seemed to slow down, give him the extra attention, knowing how much he was enjoying it. Lord knows he could have blown through it and been done in minutes, but he took extra time, and paid attention to the tiny details. Bless him for that too!❤❤❤ They all did wonderful!
She is such a beautiful person she is always watching them all so close you can see the worry in her eyes and face just think of all she has endured....and the deapest love she has in her heart ...she constantly is thinking about everyone else and she just sat there and enjoyed herself the relief I felt she had for even a few minutes was priceless....it is truly amazing what you all have done for this family ❤!

They’re just living their lives as best they can. I live in the eastern Appalachian of Kentucky. Odd WV is only 2 hours away from me. You’ll see sadly some people like them up in the hills and such and they need protected. They’re just kind people who just want to live in peace.
Their social development has really come a long way. I feel that Mark has helped them more in ways than probably anyone in their lives. This is so heartwarming.

When Ray let out that sound of excitement while he was getting his haircut, I felt that! I’m happy for this family right now, I’m glad all the years of poverty, and hard times hasn’t broken their spirits. Mark has made a huge impact in this family’s lives for the good.
I loved how in the car on the way to Beckley for haircuts, Timmy reached over and helped fix his mom's blouse. These people may not have much and may have lots of challenges. But one thing they do have is love and compassion for one another. Something that is uncommon in families today.
Betty deserves a day of pampering at a spa, she certainly didn't get much of a haircut. Shakira should be ashamed of herself, she didn't even try to style it in any way.
I gotta say Timmy was definitely the star of this Whitaker's episode. The way he ran and jumped up in the chair, to the way he held his head up high after his cut. Don't need him to speak to know how great he felt!

This is a beautiful act of kindness. I used to own a salon. I had homeless people come out of the woods into the shop. This is a small thing that can really help someone's outlook.

All of them enjoyed getting their hair cut. The guys cutting Ray and Timmy's hair were so patient and gentle. Special and loving family. Wonderful Betty has taken care or her siblings all these years.
Lauren is an absolute gem. The way she tried her best to talk to each of them and connect was very sweet. Especially the way she sat by Lorraine and talked to her, I think she held her hand in the salon? She waited patiently for a response to her questions and spoke slowly, and clearly. She never once made them feel any different from herself. ❤ Thank you, from a special needs mom ❤️
Yes, and she knows how to TALK with them. On the way to the salon, Mark said, "What's your favorite dinner?", which simply perplexed them. But then Lauren said, "What kinds of things do you COOK?", and we got a recitation of "Well, pinto beans, fried potatoes, macaroni and cheese, spaghetti, things like that."
Yes you can tell that they are trying. I know I'm probably going to get some flack for this, but I'd love to get in there and sort everything out, clean properly, and organise it all for them. And get poor Betty a bed instead of the settee. She needs and deserves a bed for all she does for them.
You could tell that Betty really appreciated someone pampering her a bit. She's so good to her family. Self care can go a long way. I'm so happy for them all.

God I have watched this video over and over and not one person is smiling or even trying to have a conversation with the whitakers. I wish I was over there I would give them a haircut that they would never forget. I would have them laughing and smiling. Treat them like I treated ALL of my clients. As sweet as this whole family is, i am not convinced that's why she doesn't always respond to Mark. It's not just compliments. She often doesn't answer his questions, either. I've watched every one of these Whittaker videos, and it seems she is only able to answer very simple, very direct questions. Whenever he says anything with any nuance, she doesn't answer. Sometimes, he re-phrases it more simply and direct, and sometimes she gets it, sometimes she doesn't

Timmy was so excited to get his hair trimmed he hopped into the chair with gusto!! I love how Ray is so relaxed while having his hair cut and that Betty helps get everyone the hair cut orders and authorization. This family is doing so much better since Mark came into their lives. Bless you Mark!

Mark... you said the day you met the Whittaker's, it changed your life. Look how you've changed their lives! Every episode with this family makes me smile and alittle weepy. Those are also tears of joy for you, seeing you interact with them and how Timmy, Ray and Lorraine respond to you. From that very first episode, this family was so pathetic by no fault of their own. They were so alone. Now, you've not only brought new friends into their lives, but you've taught them so much.They are taking better care of themselves and their home. This shows that regardless of how poor people are, if given a chance and gifts that they couldn't afford for themselves, they like nice things too. We need to get her a Finishing Touch facial shaver for women. I didn’t see how bad her facial hair was until this video. It’s always nice to get pampered and I can tell Lorraine, Timmy and Ray even enjoyed it but I imagine Betty was a little more uneasy being the caregiver of them all and having to sit back and be pampered a little instead, plus she always has to worry about something going wrong when on these outings with Ray and Timmy so her stress is probably pretty high until getting back home. I am sure they’ve had a lot of horrific things said and done to them over the years. Having Mark there probably gave her a great deal of comfort to be honest.

This is a beautiful act of kindness. I used to own a salon. I had homeless people come out of the woods into the shop. This is a small thing that can really help someone's outlook.

All of them enjoyed getting their hair cut. The guys cutting Ray and Timmy's hair were so patient and gentle. Special and loving family. Wonderful Betty has taken care or her siblings all these years.
Lauren is an absolute gem. The way she tried her best to talk to each of them and connect was very sweet. Especially the way she sat by Lorraine and talked to her, I think she held her hand in the salon? She waited patiently for a response to her questions and spoke slowly, and clearly. She never once made them feel any different from herself. ❤ Thank you, from a special needs mom ❤️

Yes, and she knows how to TALK with them. On the way to the salon, Mark said, "What's your favorite dinner?", which simply perplexed them. But then Lauren said, "What kinds of things do you COOK?", and we got a recitation of "Well, pinto beans, fried potatoes, macaroni and cheese, spaghetti, things like that."
I agree she was great with them.

As sweet as this whole family is, i am not convinced that's why she doesn't always respond to Mark. It's not just compliments. She often doesn't answer his questions, either. I've watched every one of these Whittaker videos, and it seems she is only able to answer very simple, very direct questions. Whenever he says anything with any nuance, she doesn't answer. Sometimes, he re-phrases it more simply and direct, and sometimes she gets it, sometimes she doesn't

Mark... you said the day you met the Whittaker's, it changed your life. Look how you've changed their lives! Every episode with this family makes me smile and alittle weepy. Those are also tears of joy for you, seeing you interact with them and how Timmy, Ray and Lorraine respond to you. From that very first episode, this family was so pathetic by no fault of their own.
They were so alone. Now, you've not only brought new friends into their lives, but you've taught them so much.They are taking better care of themselves and their home. This shows that regardless of how poor people are, if given a chance and gifts that they couldn't afford for themselves, they like nice things too. They just don't know how to express their gratitude, but it's obvious they are grateful for everything you've done and for caring about them. They love you! Thank you for taking us along!

I would love to see Betty and Loraine have a pampered day where Mark’s lady friend takes them for a facial and mani/ pedicure and Mark takes the men out shopping for new clothes or whatever. Those two women deserve that. Especially Betty who’s basically the glue and matriarch of that family. Loraine is such a sweetheart too.
