Here’s an update on Jack, the Whittaker’s dog that was injured. Larry took Jack to a veterinarian in Beckley where his leg was amputated. The vet gave Jack antibiotics and pain medication. Larry tells me that Jack is now running around and happy like nothing ever happened.
One other concern. Ray seems very anxious at times. I would make sure the safety locks are on in any vehicle he rides in. Love your work and the family
Thank U from the depths of my heart for the update!! It was hard to watch that poor dog and I’m not, absolutely NOT, faulting these poor people. They r heroically scraping by & barely takin care of themselves… but seeing the dog injured has haunted me almost as much as the Whitakers has haunted my soul! Ur UA-cam channel often haunts me for days, weeks, or months after watching a video. This family is so interesting , yet also hauntingly tragic. Genuinely deeply moving is the best way I can describe, watching ur videos of them. However, I’m still not expressing it fully … with just those words! What u have been called to do , so are doing, is truly EPIC!
I'm a speech-language pathologist :) Ray was saying "Chicken" and pointing when going in the fridge and freezer with Mark. Should look into an AAC device for him - visuals and augmentative communication could change his life - if he wanted it! Amazing to see the progress with the family from the first video - bless you Mark!
As the Humane Society Director for Raleigh County, we got an enormous amount of calls regarding the condition of the dog in the video. I just wanted to let everyone know that the dog is currently receiving vet care and will require amputation at the shoulder. For those concerned about the care of the animals, I can tell you that these folks care for their animals as well or better than most folks do, just were not equipped to deal with this particular issue. I personally have visited twice in the last week to make sure that the dog received treatment and can assure everyone that all of the other animals in the house are in great shape. We regularly provide them with pet food and will be keeping in touch with them to make sure that they don't end up in this situation again. I do know that Mr Laita has given them some money toward the dog's care and I have spoken with the vet personally because I wanted to make sure that Ray was able to get his dog back. Surgery is scheduled for today, as I understand it after speaking with family members and the vet. So many people have strong opinions on all of this, but I really want everyone to know that these folks really are beautiful human beings who love their animals and that we will be working with them to provide spay and neuter services as well as any future care their animals may need.
I knew Mark would take care of the injured dog and I can tell the other animals are well fed and taken care of. Thank you for the update about the Whitakers.
@@sillyrful dogs are resilient and these dogs are cared for and loved , would u rather them be locked up in cages at animal control hoping they get adopted along with the many other dogs there
Thank you for the update. I was sick worried about this poor dog and wondered if anyone was going to offer care for it. You could see it was swollen too and looked like exposed bone. That poor baby!
Thank you thank you for helping this poor dog. My heart just skipped a beat when I saw his condition. The Whittaker’s are lovely, and do the best they can…but the dog needs care. I am so relieved that you are seeing through the care of him. Thank you again, to all of those who helped.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
This makes me cringe and finds utter disgust lol. Bless your little innocent optimistic heart tho, I mean would you feel comfortable staying there, hell no, I'd never want to meet these inbred hicks. Real life Neanderthal😂
How long did they keep filming and chatting before they decided that dog was probably in pain and in need of emergency care? 😮 I couldn’t tell but to me it looked like he had piece of his leg missing. 😭
@@TristanMurcia I just commented about that I was completely astounded by noticing that dog was missing his paw and he was just licking a nub those animals should be taken away from those people
Fricken LOVED having Ray hold the camera while you tied his shoes! You could just feel the pride he felt there! No matter how small, it's amazing to provide those moments to people, man.
And the lovely girl says "you're pretty" and touches her hair like it's the strong hand. The difference between being kind, and trying to be kind for the camera.
Betty said in a previous video that she helped her momma raise her siblings. When Betty was 12 years old she would come home from school and help her momma, I'm sure that's why she never graduated high school.
She also promised her mom to never get married so she could take care of her siblings She was raised to Be their other mom and she does a good job of it
It's amazing what showing a little love can do for a family. God is definitely working through you my friend. What a world we would have if we all treated each other with such compassion.
My heart broke for the dog with the injured paw so I am happy to see that Mark had it taken to a vet for treatment. I'm sure Mark would understand all the questions and concern for the poor thing. It saddens me to think that many animals, in low income families, suffer the same or worse than this poor dog. Mark, you are so kind to the Whittakers. ♥
‼️Mark- been with ya from the beginning yet 1st comment with anything but “we’ll done!” Mark‼️ Don’t hate me. This is eating me alive‼️ I’m 😢SOOO PISSED & SICKENED-since watching this. I Had to re-watch to be sure I saw what I saw‼️ That GORGEOUS beautiful DOG is SUFFERING BEYOND BELIEF‼️ I know a haircut/socialization Video was pre-planned with effort no doubt- but when life sends you a curve you MUST turn with it or crash. You crashed Mark! PLEASE I BEG you Mark- INTERVENE on behalf of the Beautiful Soul who did not complain. Humans mistake a dogs sweet nature and self control etc…for toughness and lack of NEED for rescue. This poor pure soul needs HELP! The wound is HORRIFIC- possibly/probably a mortal wound! That leg should probably be AMPUTATED which will prevent INFECTION as well as give him/her their life back. Surely you can do Something⁉️ There are Vets in (ODD) West Virginia/ Virginia⁉️Please DO something!
Where did you see or read that the dog was taken to the vet? Iv watched all the videos and haven’t seen or heard anything about that, and it’s breaking my heart thinking that poor dog was left to suffer💔.
I am so impressed with how well they have progressed. You really helped them out and all the crowdfunding obviously has helped as well. They look very well-groomed compared to the first meeting. Their clothes were clean and nice. Thank you for what you're doing
Some of the most groundbreaking work SWU has ever documented. Mark has literally changed my perception of the Whittaker family and now I find them quite charming.
Same here... I worry about them, when we dont get a video through the winter and hope they are all alive in the spring... I really like this family, alot!
the cousin changed how i feel too tbh i think his name was jason but im not sure i forget but he was like i love em with all my heart yea they different but they would give the shirt off thier back for anyone right away
When we watched the video of Mark taking them to the shop, we were AMAZED at how well-mannered they were in the shop. They definitely are decent people.
For anyone concerned about the dog; Mark confirmed it was treated by a veterinarian ❤ Edit: some people have asked where this info can be confirmed; Mark personally replied to one of my early comments regarding the dog. He actually replied to several comments, you have to do some digging and scrolling around to find them (ugh, YT lol) but there's several out there. 😍👍😊
One of the things I've noticed about Ray in these videos it that he understands what you have planned and is ready to go almost immediately. He's got his nice jacket on and early in the video you can see him standing by the door fiddling with the lock. He is ready to "lock the house" and go. Same with him getting his hairbrush while everyone was talking. He knows that he's getting a haircut and sees excited for the trip.
Ray is my favourite human. Aside from his intellectual challenges, his personality shines through all of it so brightly. He has so much energy and generally seems quite positive.
Betty fixing Lorraine’s hair clip in the car was my favorite silent moment of this video! Plus Timmy fixing Lorraine’s shirt🥰 They are all such sweet family members! Thank you SWU, you’re kindness & generosity is unmatched!
OMG! I've never heard Lorraine speak! Am I the only one who feels that visits from Mark are helping the Whittakers in social development? I feel that Ray would eventually say a couple of words. I'm happy for them.
she is minimally verbal, but yeah he is stimulating them, encouraging them, this family is slowly growing, learning, coming out of their very limited shells, their world has expanded for the better since mark came into there lives, they still have a long way to go, but they have also come a long way since first meeting.
Love Lorraine. She reminds me Of an old hound. Sitting on a chair too injured. To move Horrific breathe and just soiling themselves. More like a pug. But not cute like one
It's so cute the way the Whittakers behave. Lorraine took a liking to Lauren. Ray just loved looking out the car window. The commeradery between the Whittakers and Mark has become a beautiful thing.
@@TheSasquatchHunters2024 It is shameful for you to praise Mark. He left there without a second thought for a living creature suffering! Why isn't anyone else concerned about that poor dog with its foot ripped off? This is why I hate most people. What a bunch of clowns you are. And if you really think this dude is filming those folks for any other reason than to boost his own ego, then you'll really need some mental help. He obviously has a narcissistic personality disorder which by definition is: a pattern of self-centered, arrogant thinking and behavior, a lack of empathy and consideration for other people (and animals) accompanied by an excessive need for admiration. He's a classic case of a manipulative and selfish human being.
Ray seemed the most excited about getting his haircut. I loved watching Lorraine with the wind blowing through her hair just enjoying the ride. It's the simple things in life....
He’s so sweet & totally innocent. These poor humans don’t know any different. I can’t believe there aren’t services (personal care/homemaking) available for the family.
The way Mark communicates with Ray is so awesome. I love that Ray told him to sit down and asked for help tying his shoe. The lad makes a good cameraman too
WHY were the Whitakers incestual? I guess I am struggling to understand this whole situation. I am not trying to incite arguments or direct any type of judgement but I am really confused on this story of the Whitakers as a whole. WHY does it appear as this family is being embraced whenever their entire family was fuc*ing each other?
@@leesh2684 Thank you! I was trying to figure out why she looked so familiar!! lol! I was like - I've seen that girl before - I figured it was probably on SWU but could not place her exactly..... She has a very nice way about her - very go with the flow & with a sweet heart!
He said, "You've made our lives a whole lot better". And that's true. Ray needs some of those Velcro shoes, so he doesn't fall when his shoes are untied. Maybe some fly zappers would be helpful for them too. Lorain is such a beautiful and sweet souled woman. Her interaction with the family is so nice to see. Watching the family lovingly interact and joyfully sit in the back seat together is so touching to see. God definitely has watched over these good natured souls throughout their lifetimes, and blessed them with one another being able to watch over and help one another.
Mark, you are a truly amazing human. You have helped this wonderful family in so many ways. They are so blessed to have you as a friend. It's nice to see how happy they are and how you have enriched their lives.
I'm 43yo. I've served in the Corp and been deployed to some f..... Up places. I was a deputy sheriff in Arkansas for 14 years and seen and dealt with the worst of humanity and thought myself to be hardened. But watching you interact with this family hit me so hard. I cried. I cried because I forgot there are truly good people in this world. Thank you.
@@TheEverLovingOutdoors Wow. Somehow the ignorant passive aggressive nature of UA-cam commentors never ceases to baffle me. You should have a bit more respect for the people who fight for your freedom and safety. Unless you'd prefer to live in an anarchistic free-for-all where you think you'd thrive with all of your call of duty experience and fake edgy 14 year old vibrato, but you'd last about 15 seconds against the violent sociopaths who the police lock up so they don't come kicking your door down to torture and murder you.
She lights up any time a woman comes with mark. When he brought his sister on the breakfast with them she was all about marks sister. She probably never had a true female friend beyond family.
Craziest part, is these people are probably happier and more content than most people who are healthy and living life.. Great job brotha..Heart of Gold..
People give Mark a hard time about his taping the Whittakers and I’d like to thank him… he has given a lot to these people whom society has treated poorly in the past… if it weren’t for him, nobody would know of them and they wouldn’t have received the gofundme money or donations or the goods I assume he as well as others continue to give them. It doesn’t matter where they came from; they had no say in that. They seem to be very sweet, loving people and I’m happy that Mark found them so many years ago
Mark - You’ve made such a huge impact on this family and treat them as every human being should be treated - with compassion and dignity. That goes for all of your guests on your channel.
Omg thank god. Every part of this video made me smile and smile but when I saw that I about fell over and fast forwarded it as fast as I can. I'm so glad to see this comment 🎉ugh mark never disappoints
Who else notice’s Mark’s chuckling and jovial banter? I can actually hear him smile. They’re all becoming more familiar with each other. I enjoy seeing the growth and it’s a beautiful thing. 🦋
The more I study Timmy. I don’t think he’s a regular 8 year old boy. He doesn’t speak and there something seems off about him. His eyes. His bad hairline. I thjnk he might be mentally retarded or something along those lines.
Hi Mark, I would love to see the pup with the broken, amputated paw get some vet intervention. Maybe you could do a fundraiser ? I would certainly donate. I think it's absolutely amazing what you are doing for this family. The look on their faces just having a simple haircut was priceless. ❤
That poor dog has a MANGLED PAW!!!! What's wrong with them?! All they're concerned with is making the damn video. Sickening. Humans are clearly not the only sentient beings. Often even less so apparently. PLEASE post info for people who want to help that dog.
Following The Whittakers on this channel, which I stumbled across entirely by accident, has been an astounding journey I never would have imagined sharing. Not to mention the other interviews I've found, but them specifically. Mark Laita has humanized them, and shown that our limitations in life do not define us, in a way that stuns me.
Good to see someone taking time to help! Many people sit back and watch while you can rest your head at night knowing you made a difference. The world needs more people like you Mark.
Mark - having lived in Eastern Ky all my life and worked with so many families who are socially oppressed, live in poverty, have been life long and generational victims of child and adult abuse and neglect and domestic violence, substance abuse, and many other negative outcomes, I cannot tell you how very, very amazing I think you and your efforts and the impact you have are! The compassion and kindness you have shown the Whitaker family is remarkable! Because of you, other people have accepted them and have become educated about so many things that people in this world are lacking. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping the world see that there are circumstances out there that need attention above what is emphasized by main stream media. You are a wonderful man with a wonderful vision and I appreciate all that you do! 😊😊
It’s so heartwarming to see the improvements in their lives from this friendship you’ve built with each of them. Appalachia is beautiful and blessed yet it has been treated so poorly by the many corporations who have taken advantage of the area and it’s people. I grew up in a small town in NE Kentucky and the beauty is unsurpassed, as is the resilience of its citizens. I truly appreciate your support for this family. ❤😊
Yes. Shutting down their only real industry to "save the planet" destroyed them. And as usual there was no "Green projects" or money to replace anything lost.
This is pretty typical for this area. Incest has been a deep part of European culture for thousands of years. Even royal bloodlines from all over Europe are still mostly inbred. It’s only in the past 100 years that Europeans and their American cousins have really tried to civilize themselves.
WHY were the Whitakers incestual? I guess I am struggling to understand this whole situation. I am not trying to incite arguments or direct any type of judgement but I am really confused on this story of the Whitakers as a whole. Amen. I'm from Georgia, but we travel to the mountains of North Carolina, Tennessee, and of course Georgia, quite often. I've never been to West Virginia, but it's similar to the mountains in TN & NC...all such gorgeous areas! And to know the damage and destruction that major corporations have done to those areas is just disgusting. Exploiting all of the resources as well as the people that live there, it's so terribly sad ...
I’ve watched the playlist and I seen how much better the house is compared to the beginning. I absolutely love Ray. They are so fortunate that they have family to take care of and be with. They are happy and loved. That’s all that really matters.
I think this Family has higher values than most other people Ive ever seen. They are patient & kind & caring & polite, they Love their Family & lack vanity.
They are truly unique human beings. Nothing fazes them, truly resilient folk. And Ray is so desperate to talk, it literally breaks my heart every time.
@@samlayne389 I think the mental capability to learn sign is a long shot for ray. They're beautiful people sure, but they most definitely aren't capable of a lot of things
I remember seeing something about an app or a device that has buttons that can be pressed and they say different phrases (yes, no, thank you, I need…, I want…) so a nonverbal person can communicate. I wonder if Ray and the others who are nonverbal can use something like that.
It really ain't hard to earn the trust of mountain people. Just treat them with humility and respect, as you would anyone else. It's people with agendas that cause mountain people to lose trust. About 50 years ago there were these 3 red shacks out on the main road in Letcher county Kentucky where my family is from. It's always been poor there even when coal was at its peak. Anyway these 3 shacks stood out due to the litter out front and obvious condition of the buildings. A news reporter from some big city come down and tried to do a story on poverty and basically put the people there down. The owner of these shacks showed up with a shotgun and told them to leave. With their arrogant attitude they stood their ground and claimed immunity because they were press. They also died that day, on that very spot. Had they approached the situation with humility and respect no doubt they would have lived that day.
Their neighbors and people in the surrounding areas protect them. If you try to roll up all impromptu like, you'll be met with a gun drawn on you. I'm not making that up, it was said in a previous video. And while it might be scary to hear, I think it's a good thing. There's lots of trolls out there who might try to film them for a sensationalist "viral" video.
It is apparent that they think of Mark as one of the family and enjoy his visits. So special to see an unexpected bond between two totally different backgrounds coming together. So much love and mutual respect. 💓
It's truly amazing to see the amount of trust and safety they feel around you mark, you have truly changed their lives for the better and also teaching them that there are still good people in the world that they can trust, your a real good man Mark and wish you the absolute best
The inbred Whittakers are the descendants of two sets of first cousins who got married, sparking the family of incest. UA-camr Mark Laita is making money off those folks while that family lives in squalor and overrun with animals that they don't take care of. The three siblings' parents were first cousins, twice, because they share both sets of grandparents. Mark is clearly benifiting off this family while taking donations for his gofundme. He's keeping all that cash you knuckleheads. STOP PAYING THIS CREEP AND REPORT HIM TO THE AUTHORITIES!

I agree everybody wants to be treated nice and it's not any of their fault what happened with the interbreeding most likely their parents didn't even know it was a bad idea
@@moonlitegirl72 your exactly right mam, no child should be blamed for their parents bad choices, I know that's a sad reality we live in alot of the time for people like the Whitakers unfortunately but atleast they are getting to see the good sides of life and see that there are still good hearted beautiful souled people like Mark and all the people that have donated money to help everyone, the video mark made of taking them to Walmart grocery shopping really made me smile, cause when they were walking through the parking lot Ray grabbed Mark's hand because he knew 150% that no matter what Mark would protect him , and just tht amount of trust I'm sure doesn't come easily with the Whitakers, but I'm truly happy to see the family is doing well and has a refrigerator and freezer full of food to eat and each one of them are so happy acting and smiling especially Timmy bless his heart, I don't think iv seen him not smile in a single video. Truly do wish there was more real true happiness like that in the world instead of all the bitterness, and division that some are trying to create between Americans. You have a safe and great week and weekend mam
I love this family so much. Betty is such a beautiful yet humble soul. Ray is the sweetest, I love his childlike personality. Although there situation looks sad to most of us on the outside looking in, I’ve known a few people who live under similar conditions and I have to say ignorance truly is bliss. These people are significantly happier than the average American, despite the conditions they live in.
Love the look on Lorraines face when your assistant was visiting with her. You can truly tell she enjoys the company of another female visiting with her. Wonder what she would do if someone sang to her or even got her to dance ? You can tell she hasn't had any interaction with too many people. Bless her heart.❤
The more I watch this family the more I realise that they are happy with their lot. I don’t think they’d mind if they were left alone. Salt of the earth. We don’t need to make them into consumers. They value each other. I could be wrong but this is my take. We must be mindful about exploiting vulnerable people for our entertainment. Wishing the family the best and some peace.
Mark, since your first interview with family when we all first were introduced to The Whitaker Family, it’s been amazing to see how far they truly have come. You’ve given the invisible and otherwise voiceless, recognition. You’ve given them a voice, and a place in the world to be accepted without prejudice. Helped them with improving their home, now friends who genuinely seem to care. Lord knows you’ve made me a fan of people that I would have normally raised an eyebrow too. Taught me how to check my own biases and to not judge someone simply because of circumstances that are of no fault of their own. I think all of fans of WUB, are finding empathy and love for people who seemed very isolated before. I see a lot of personal growth from the very first video. Thank you Mark for helping us all become better human beings. Your work is touching.
Mark, I understand you have an enormous amount of comments on the Whittaker’s. I also know that you may never read this brief message, but on the off chance that you do, Thank You for being so kind to these folks. Thank You for being the vessel that makes their lives just a little bit better. Thank You for giving mountain folk a voice. ❤️
God Bless Mark for all of the good things that he has done for the Whittakers. I got excited when I saw that a new video had came out. However, seeing that poor dog, broke me. I can't even imagine the pain. It's true about people being more sad when something bad happens to a dog in a movie as opposed to something happening to a human 😔 Thank you Mark and all supporters for what you do to help this family and those dogs 🙏
"Hows everything?".......complete silence...... lol I love this family. Mark , your a good guy for continuing to keep tabs on them and helping them. Thank you for that.
Betty answers questions like she’s an annoyed parent with a kid that’s always asking dumb questions. Ray is just a genuinely happy person. I love these people so much.
My heart melted when they got in the car. This just shows how genuine some ppl can be no matter what they’re going through. They all seem so happy and they love each other 💙
Awe Ray in the background trying to tie his shoe! this family has come a long way and I’m glad they were receptive to the help and continue to let us see into their lives. Thank you Mark 🧡
I love miss Betty.. the effort n strength its took to look after all her siblings is incredible..strong beautiful lady... please protect this lovely family
Mark, I so appreciate the kindness you show to them. You can see how glad they are to see you. You have opened up a whole new world for them. You will be richly blessed for your kindness.😊
OMG I LOVE THAT SHE IS WITH YOU!!! Someone who appreciates you, your work, your help/advice! No one could ever make such an impression on people like you do, Mark. You & your videos have 10000% helped me stay sober for the last 2 1/2 years.

I’M SO PROUD OF YOU. What an unselfish thing to say, and what a blessing that Mark’s kindness helped someone else. I have prayed that sobriety continues to be yours. Congratulations 😉☺️🙏🏼
The first time I saw this family I felt sorry for them, but despite everything they seem to be truly happy and blessed, and they can’t help how their family chose to bring them into this world. They don’t have much, but they also don’t need or ask for much and are perfectly content to have each other, and it warms my heart the kind people that reach out to them thanks to these videos. They seem like genuinely kind and friendly people whom I would like to meet one day. May God continue to bless them 🩷
This is a great example of the kindness of just regular people. Mark has made a good amount of money and he uses a good amount of it to help his fellow man. It’s good to know that kindness is still out there in this mad world.
It's a small thing, but I really do appreciate that Mark seems to have reached out to the barber shop first rather than just showing up with everyone. Always respectful with all of this
I like how this family has amazingly been able to stick together and make it all these years. And Betty when it comes to her family, she is sharp. She knows their ages and birthdays right off her head. I like how Timmy keeps a smile on his face, and the whole family feels comfortable together. They care for each other as best as they can and even manage to take care of pets as well. They are more solid as a family than many people of normal or superior intelligence.
Mark, its obvious you've had a great positive impact on the Whittaker family who were neglected before you came in to their lives. Thank you and everyone who's been pitching in to help them 🙏❤
Thank you Mark for doing these videos on the Whittakers. The Whittakers are a very special family to us West Virginians. They know how to survive, despite their physical limitations. You did a very classy way in presenting the way you presented the Whittakers. Keep up the great work and I look forward to seeing more videos from you.
These guys always put a smile on my face. good to see everyone is well. The poor dog needs veterinary attention asap though, hes in alot of pain. Thankyou Mark for yet another fantastic update on our beloved Whittaker's xx
Dogs are resilient. Country people do things differently. They probably do not have the funds to get it treated. That dog will heal. Licking its wounds is very common with dogs who get injured.
@@Jameskenomis3 they get tons of money from Mark and viewers. Simply not true. They are uneducated. I would genuinely give them the benefit of the doubt and say they don't know better. That dog does need and deserve treatment though. Can't imagine what kind of person thinks Mark should leave the dog the way it is.
Pure family? Hellooooo. They are the result of incest. Their genetic disorders are associated with their parents screwing other family members. Their decline in cognitive abilities and mental retardation are due to inbreeding inside the family. Inbred people display decreased cognitive ability, face & limb malformations, muscular function and retardation.
What was the stench like? Butt? Rank balls ? Spoiled milk? Did she collect dead birds? Or what kind of corpses did she like to pile up at home? Did you say “pew” a lot to her or was she shamed by pews? I have so many questions
Mark, thank you for sharing the Whittakers with us. And, thank you for helping them and treating them with the respect they deserve. You are a good guy- a rare thing in this world!
I'll honestly admit I watched the first video purely out of curiosity. About halfway through I realized I really like these people and became emotionally invested in their well being. They seem to be thriving which I'm so glad to see.
Ray is a lot smarter than he appears at first, and I think Timmy is, as well. They both seem to have a good grasp of receptive language. I wonder if a picture-to-speech device would help them. Ray communicates well in his own way, but I can feel the frustration sometimes when he can't express exactly what's on his mind. They could point to the words or images they want to discuss, and the device would say the words for them. It could open up a whole new world for them.
Even a simple picture book so that he could point to his needs/wants. Such as: “look!” “Bathroom” “hungry” “haircut” “tv” “hurting”. It might have a representative picture with a word or phrase underneath. Then he could flip to the picture, or point to it on a big board to get his message across
Whole-heartedly agree. My son is autistic and non-verbal. We now communicate with him well, but his eyes would say it all. Ray knows what’s going on around him, and he does get frustrated when he can’t get his word across. I’ve seen it time and time again in my son, and I see it in Ray. Edited to add: my son used a program on an iPad called ProLoQuo2Go. It had pictures you could customize as well as an area where they can type words/sentences and the program reads it for them, simulating their voice. Similar to a less high tech version of how Stephen Hawking communicated.
The initial interviews and videos with the Whittakers were what drew me to this channel. Being from south-central/south-west Virginia, I had heard of the Whittaker family before - including how good and decent they were and how the community cared for them. Hearing is not the same as seeing, though. That Mark has continued to follow up with them after years is a lovely testament to the families' wholesome nature, as well as Mark's kind heart. It warms my heart to see he continues to keep up with them and help them, and their genuine joy and gratitude are balm in this troubled age. May God watch over and protect the Whittakers, as well as Mark.
As soon as I saw this pop up in my feed I jumped for joy, I've been waiting for an update on these kind folks! I have come to love this family. They are a kind and loving group that didn't have much but made due with it and, God bless Mark and the Soft White Underbelly family for making them "rich" and improving on what they have. If I were in a better financial situation I would gladly donate to the cause.
Thank you for giving us an update Mark. I was so worried about Jack 😊

That’s what I thought. I’m used to people who aren’t easy to understand.
I hope Mark sees your suggestion.
It could help Timmy as well - I'm sure the device could be for the whole family!

Or maybe drawing, like cards, books so he can associate using pictures, and get him art supplies, maybe he's a painter
I'm so glad you have a suggestion! It's clear Ray is communicating with Mark and happy he's there and has so much to say.

One of the things I've noticed about Ray in these videos it that he understands what you have planned and is ready to go almost immediately. Hey q xww6h
This is pretty typical for this area. Incest has been a deep part of European culture for thousands of years. Even royal bloodlines from all over Europe are still mostly inbred. It’s only in the past 100 years that Europeans and their American cousins have really tried to civilize themselves.

And the thing is. There are some many other places in the world where they live with much less than this, and still find happiness and fulfillment
Love the look on Lorraines face when your assistant was visiting with her. You can truly tell she enjoys the company of another female visiting with her. Wonder what she would do if someone sang to her or even got her to dance ? You can tell she hasn't had any interaction with too many people. Bless her heart.❤
Great idea!!
She just stared at her in awe its so precious
She’s had interactions, just not very pleasant ones. This series is beautiful ❤

I think its beautiful that people are helping from all over the world; such a lovely family. No matter what disabilities they have.
The guy is a scam artists using this inbred family to make money. I don't find that admirable at all.
isnt it shameful how they were treated before this by their fellow Americans
Their Hospitality is so sweet, seems like they welcome anyone who wants to visit them, especially Mark he gets huge smiles when he shows up.
Yo you hella fine
Mark, I understand you have an enormous amount of comments on the Whittaker’s. I also know that you may never read this brief message, but on the off chance that you do, Thank You for being so kind to these folks. Thank You for being the vessel that makes their lives just a little bit better. Thank You for giving mountain folk a voice. ❤️
He ghosted you.
God Bless Mark for all of the good things that he has done for the Whittakers.
I got excited when I saw that a new video had came out.
However, seeing that poor dog, broke me. I can't even imagine the pain. It's true about people being more sad when something bad happens to a dog in a movie as opposed to something happening to a human 😔
Thank you Mark and all supporters for what you do to help this family and those dogs 🙏
I'd be the same way = asking about the dogs first !
God bless all the people that have and continue to donate money etc...these are the true heroes.
She's definitely the mom figure of the family! I like to quote her saying "Ray, QUIT!"
Thank God for Betty who watches over them. This is how families used to do things.
There’s many ways you can help them through Mark. Many viewers have reached out to them
me too man :)
me too..
Shes so sassy 😆
My heart melted when they got in the car. This just shows how genuine some ppl can be no matter what they’re going through. They all seem so happy and they love each other 💙
Awe Ray in the background trying to tie his shoe! this family has come a long way and I’m glad they were receptive to the help and continue to let us see into their lives. Thank you Mark 🧡
Man, from the first video until now…..they look so much better. Love this for them. Thank you all for taking care of this precious family.
Ray, knows Mark shows him caring and loving. We love you Mark.
People said mark was having an affair with Ray. Or down right rayping Ray
I love miss Betty.. the effort n strength its took to look after all her siblings is incredible..strong beautiful lady... please protect this lovely family
I love how he treats this family with the upmost respect, very wholesome interactions ❤
That is wonderful! Good for you for staying sober. ❤
I’M SO PROUD OF YOU. What an unselfish thing to say, and what a blessing that Mark’s kindness helped someone else. I have prayed that sobriety continues to be yours. Congratulations 😉☺️🙏🏼
That's Awesome!!! 🙌
There seems to be an upward trend of people helping people, people loving people, acceptance so popular now! I am a friend of Bill!
When you have Ray hold the camera I cried. The joy you have brought to these people is amazing. Thank you for what you do. I love them all so much.
30:52 That wave Ray gave was too adorable. I love this precious family. Thank you for caring and sharing them with the world, Mark. ❤
These people can teach us the true meaning of living and being happy together I love them so much
How so?
Because they truly love each other
It's a small thing, but I really do appreciate that Mark seems to have reached out to the barber shop first rather than just showing up with everyone.
SWU has replied to another comment that the dog was taken to the vet.
@@sunshine3914was it seen by a vet after this video?

@@Jameskenomis3 they get tons of money from Mark and viewers. Simply not true. They are uneducated. I would genuinely give them the benefit of the doubt and say they don't know better. That dog does need and deserve treatment though. Can't imagine what kind of person thinks Mark should leave the dog the way it is.
Betty is a saint! Ray is a GEM. What a genuine family!
❤️❤️❤️
exactly 💯..."pure"
Pure family? Hellooooo. They are the result of incest. Their genetic disorders are associated with their parents screwing other family members. Their decline in cognitive abilities and mental retardation are due to inbreeding inside the family. Inbred people display decreased cognitive ability, face & limb malformations, muscular function and retardation.
You got that one right their prime example why incest & polygamy is against the law. And name of their town is odd what a fitting name 😆
@Tiger Man 77 I didn't catch the name of their town .. what is it?
I love how they light up when they see you Mark. There is truly a bond between you and them.
I LOVE how happy he makes them.
@@jacobus57 Thanks for your cynical perspective. It really warmed my heart.

My deepest condolences 💐
I'm sorry for your lose
What was the stench like? Butt? Rank balls ? Spoiled milk?
Did she collect dead birds? Or what kind of corpses did she like to pile up at home? Did you say “pew” a lot to her or was she shamed by pews?
I have so many questions
It's great to see their front porch area cleaned up quite a bit! And Lorraine looks really good. This family makes me smile. :)
Lorraine looks like she's ready for adventure
Mark, thank you for sharing the Whittakers with us. And, thank you for helping them and treating them with the respect they deserve. You are a good guy- a rare thing in this world!
I have to thank you for helping this family they need it so badly and shame on anyone who judges them
I'll honestly admit I watched the first video purely out of curiosity. About halfway through I realized I really like these people and became emotionally invested in their well being. They seem to be thriving which I'm so glad to see.
❤
Me too!!!❤❤❤
Ray is a lot smarter than he appears at first, and I think Timmy is, as well.
How do we get that for them? Where does that come from? I think that would be transformative.
I've been saying that on here for years.
So decent they abuse and neglect animals.
@@Sassy-Southerner shut the hell up bro. Obviously they abused the dog if they're leaving it with a serious injury like that... how stupid are you?
They see the best in each other. They focus on their love and appreciation for each other.
