Better Call Saul is the prequel to the award-winning series Breaking Bad, set six years before Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) became Walter White's lawyer. When we meet him, the man who will become Saul Goodman is known as Jimmy McGill, a small-time lawyer searching for his destiny, and, more immediately, hustling to make ends meet. Working alongside, and often against, Jimmy is "fixer" Mike Erhmantraut (Jonathan Banks), a beloved character introduced in Breaking Bad. The series will track Jimmy's transformation into Saul Goodman, the man who puts "criminal" in "criminal lawyer."

I love how Mike has them put Howard in carefully, while he lets them toss Lalo in without a care
I like that thought too, but afaict after Mike says "easy" they pause but pretty much toss him in as unceremoniously as Lalo. *thump*

Howard really had the worst fate. Getting made out for being a suicidal addict, killed for nothing. And to make it even worse, he gets buried with his killer. Howard gets screwed in life and death.
And its all Kim and Jimmy's fault
One of the more mind blowing moments of the show imo. To realize they were under Walt’s feet the whole time puts a different perspective on BB
It's just insane man. Retroactively changed the way we look at a show and scenes that were 12 years in the past. It's so much to process and to internalize. Best writers ever

It's kind of a twisted irony that Howard ended up being buried along with the man who murdered him
Something unusual in this plot being one in a million chance like Marie says
the closet thing to a good person and one of the biggest monsters both wound up in the same place, in the end
Poor Howard😢
@@adamsymthe5389in the end, good or bad, we all end up in the same place
How is that irony
After everything Howard went through, for him to end up like this is beyond heartbreaking 😢
He didn’t deserve that.
@@BigInTheBurgh1 Not in any way
He and Kim were only ones who respect Jimmy. He always just wants the best for everyone. Sad ending for this man
Fr how unfair
Especially when you consider how happy Howard’s day started. Full of joy. He gets down on a knee to explain to Irene how things will go in the mediation; gets her a cup of tea; proudly pushes her wheelchair. Then he looks like a madman when he sees the judge. Gets murdered by Lalo. Then buried under the lab. Just heartbreaking.
Like Werner Ziegler, and Nacho's dad, Mike knew Howard was a better man than he was, and respected him.
Better than he was? Wouldn't go that far. But good men in general
@@jstdun yes, better than he was. Mike knows he's corrupt. He only respects good men with good hearts - he admires them for upholding the values that he couldn't. That's why he cares about Jesse. That's why he accepts it when Casper tells him Werner was a better man, but punches Kai for insulting Werner. That's why he doesn't try to argue with or defend himself to Nacho's dad - "you gangsters are all the same, there is no justice". They're both fathers of murdered sons. Mike knows he got revenge, not justice.
@@FayeVert respect the response. You convinced me
@@FayeVertI think initially he sees Walter White as someone like that, he seems almost fond of him with him being a family man as well, but then overtime learns what an insane, egodriven man he really is
2:17 Even Mike appears crushed that this happened to Howard (who he probably saw several times when he worked at the courthouse)
Mike told Kim that they were being watched and knew, yet didn’t care about Howard plot, so he was familiar with that character.
Mike knew Howard was a good man. He didn't just see him at the courthouse, of course he investigated him because he was associated with Jimmy. He knew
Didn't really think of that...!!
Mike knew a lot of PPL including Howard as he was the attendant
He is crushed. He hates innocent people getting killed. His son was innocent. Refused to take a bribe, so the dirty cops killed him. It’s the same with Nacho’s dad. When Gus told Tyrus ‘bring him here’ in an attempt to get to Nacho, Mike said ‘that is NOT happening’. So yeah…..the look on his face is one of disgust that an innocent man paid this price.
mike knows howard didn't deserve this fate, he always had the right amount of stickers...
“I [said to Jonathan Banks] I go ‘You know what? You know what, Jonathan, I really hope we have a scene together this season. That would be really cool.’ He goes ‘no you don’t. Patrick, you don’t want a scene with me.’” -Patrick Fabian recounting a conversation he had with Jonathan Banks after BCS was renewed for a third season
Tyrus was such a go-getter, not only was he one of Gus's best men, but he also was capable of operating various forms of machinery AND drive a semi-truck. Guy was really going above and beyond!
Truly the henchman
Victor tried to be a go getter too. Gus sliced his chances to be a chemist though.

He literally got the last laugh.. bro was laughing at gus as he died.
His entire family is dead, he really didn’t
The whole cartel was dead, so it didn’t matter really.
@@leiferickson1494Nah bro, Gus is specifically made to be a flawed revenger as well. He accuses the Salamancas of "Blood for Money" but it's clear he also follows that, as with the Cartel and Salamancas dead, he will more financially wealthy than ever. He too, really doesn't understand "Sangre Por Sangre". And right before he's richer and more powerful than ever, he's dead.
Basically here we can say Lalo got his revenge while being in hell
Can only imagine how Saul would’ve reacted if Mike told him where they were buried. I wish he had so Jimmy could’ve told the court where Howard was buried
Wouldn’t have mattered. The lab was burnt to a crisp
I feel like if Walt never killed him and he lived to see Jimmy confess Mike would have turned himself in and reveal where he was buried
would’ve been a nice conclusion to howard’s story by maybe helping patch his reputation however I doubt saul would tell, it would open up a whole legal can of worms for Kim if howard’s body was found
@@notliterallyme Kim is already gonna face consequences though at this point given Howard’s widow is likely taking her to court and she seemed fine with that given that she gave her confession to her

Seeing Howard like this.... hearthbreaking
Such an eerie feeling seeing two powerful (in their own regard) men lie in their grave in those weird, helpless poses - a stark dissonance with how intimidating they looked when they were alive.
Death really is the ultimate absurdity to life.
Howard? Intimidating? Lol.
I actually teared up a little at this. Poor Howard, he didn't deserve this. He didn't deserve any of this.
No he didn’t. A basically good guy in a failing marriage, trying to do right by Jimmy, tells everyone what a great lawyer Kim is, and ends up like this? Just heartbreaking.
We buried him... on a hill... overlooking a little river... with pine cones all around.
Both of them being buried next to each other is still pretty crazy to me and the fact that the first time they meet is their last.

Howard didn’t deserve that
Writters? Looks like they just read Better Call Saul subreddit and filmed it exactly as most members predicted there for years before final season.
Jimmy and Kim never asked where Howards body is and Mike never told them.
They have to live with what happened except Mike who ends up killed by Walt.
This is the moment Lalo and Howard became Hank and Gomez.
The one who deserved it most alongside the one who deserved it least.
That’s great writing.
Ive always considered this to be one of if not the saddest scene in the whole show. The way Mike knows that Howard died because of Jimmy and Kim makes him loose respect for them. Its also an interesting detail that Lalo and Howard were buried in the same grave. No matter what side they were on, they both ended up dead.
This is why Mike said he would break Saul skull and legs
This is one of the hardest storylines and scenes to get over. One of the most heartbreaking I can ever remember on TV but also points to the absolute brilliance of this show. Howard's story and legacy was unbelievably tragic. I never felt the closure of Howard in the final episodes even with Jimmy's speech. Truly gutting, even more so than Hank's fate for me.
1:05 With this music, this is the moment Better Call Saul became Game of Saul
It's interesting how both were antagonists in "Better Call Saul" and wind up buried in the same grave.
Good and evil buried together. Prob the deepest scene in the series
Howard’s death - easily the saddest one on the show. Or even the whole BB/BCS universe
In fact, the only reason the event wasn't even worse was the primary school that took the direct hit from the crash was empty, it was on a Sunday
Andrea & Drew Sharp were both way worse but Hiward didn't deserve that either.
@@T-roc57 Howard’s is far worse because his entire reputation and legacy was irrevocably destroyed. He never got a chance to prove he was set up, he was murdered and everyone assumed he was a drug addict who killed himself. Really devastating to be honest.

That shot there makes mike look like a Grim Reaper
Gotta love that episode description. Mentioning the same person twice in two different ways to avoid spoiling what's really happening.
Felt so sorry for Howard.
This is to me one of the darkest moments in the entire series along with chucks death
Music makes this thing even sadder. One of few moments when Dave Porter is doing something like this, with usage of these instruments.
Yes and that's why it's more impactful when he does it
Finally, Jimmy Hoffa will not be alone.
Its scary to think that lalo and howards bodys were most likely never found
I believe the FBI found them after Gus died and the lab was burned, they (and we) just never knew who they were until we learned in Better Call Saul.

God this show. To introduce us to Howard giving us every reason to hate him, to making him one of the only truly good characters featured on the show, destroying his fathers law firm through no fault of his own, to have him killed in a conflict he isn't even aware of, and for him to be buried alongside the cartel man who killed him which he didn't even know with no one he every cared about knowing what happened to him or where he was buried. Such a tragic story, a good man who had his legacy destroyed with no one he loved even knowing how he died or where he was buried.
See that's what Howard "drug addiction let to him
I like to think Mike took Howie's shoes before he was thrown into the grave so he could land on his feet one last time.
It's amazing that Hank asks about the two bodies in Breaking Bad after the lab was blown up. I alway wondered whose bodies they found. It's clear that the idea of pre series was in the works even during the original BB.

Ironic that Howard and Lalo spent much more time together after they died compared to while they are still alive which was only 1 minute or so 😑
I personally love the music when Howard is about to be buried is soo tragic and melancholy, like this somethings the shouldn’t have happened to him but did anyway

Crazy how walt and jesse never said hi considering they came together almost every day
Anyone else think Lalo had the most ironic fate in this universe? The dude was LITERALLY buried under the secret he was trying to uncover.
Poor Howard
I can’t help but remember the Gus Fring’s deception, and ruthless fixation on personal vengeance is what culminated a majority of the deaths in this show.
Curious how they got that loader down there.
this is the best written show of all time....the amount of time and effort they must have spent planning out all of this to end up at BB

Lalo & Howard having drinks together down under
I agree with the comments saying that this is the saddest (and maybe the deepest) scene in the whole show, the guy deserving most to die being buried next to the guy deserving less to die. The only thing they had in common was their good looks and arrogance to the point of narcissism, maybe that's the tragic irony the writers tried to convey.
Burying Howard reminds me of a lawyer joke. Lawyers are really good guys down deep, 😮
2:16 a criminal & a lawyer buried together
With regard to continuity, Mike lost three men in this debacle. You might expect to see their bodies in the mass grave too.
I know this is obvious to anyone with a brain but of all the essential characters, Howard was the only honest, and truly honorable, person in the entire series. He may not have been likeable, but his "soul" and his humanity remained intact even when the people closest to him sought to destroy everything he was.
He is, honestly, the only major personality in the entire series even remotely approaching the role of "good guy." Nacho being 2nd, and Mike's sense of honor making him a distant 3rd.
Good guys lose, frequently, and this should be obvious to anyone paying attention to the world around us.

@@KAzik10001 I can't remember either, why was it? Was it for the story of his car being found on a beach?
@@PastraniO1ER Yes.
It's so that he could never be found. Earlier on in the series, Hector and company kill a good Samaritan that helped the ice cream driver carrying their product. Hector had the good Samaritan buried but Mike was able to find him with a metal detector due to the man still having his wedding ring.
Wedding ring for the reason the person above me mentioned, wallet so he'd have no identification if ever found and shoes so they could fake his death in the ocean.
Lalo's death should have been better, was so unsatisfying the way Gus killed him in my opinion.
