Is it rock gone wrong, or pop gone wrong at this point? Either way, thanks for stopping in to witness this massacre of the new Theory of a Deadman album. Bleh.
I only really started getting into music at 14, but i was exposed to RHCP and Green Day at a young age and they're two of my favourite bands to this day. I've been exposed to tons of bad music by my parents too, but maybe I shouldn't go into detail
Bring Back Kim Possible, Animated Obviously I got onto Pinterest in August that year and found other people through posts on Imagine Dragons boards. I was part of their horrible Pinterest/Tumblr “emo” community for about six months, which was where I was shown My Chem, Palaye Royale, Panic!, idkhow, Waterparks (I’m not as big a fan as I was then), and Silent Planet. I quickly grew out of Imagine Dragons (I got into them in late 2017), AJR and the Score after that. I also found Of Mice and Men and Sleeping With Sirens (not a big fan anymore) around that time and started finding post-hardcore, pop punk, and metalcore bands from there. I started listening to emo in summer last year, and I branched out into punk, nu metal, grunge, and classic rock from there. Then I worked on keeping up with current stuff. It’s been a wild ride lol. I started changing drastically once I picked up a guitar for real and started watching Jon.
This album is just... ugh Say what you will about When Legends Rise, But at least it came from a good place and has some decent songs regardless of its radio friendly sound. Say what you will about Welcome To Galvania, But at least Wes and Co. stuck to their roots and didn't try tackling material they had no business messing with. Ironically enough Theory should have really just said nothing, Cause they offer absolutely NOTHING, Apart from History of Violence the rest of this schlock is so goddamn boring that at this point I'd rather listen to Scars and Souvenirs, And I HATE that album. Of all the early 2000's faceless bands... Did we really need Theory of a Deadman to stick around? They have never offered anything outside of generic watered down Nickelback level post-grunge, I mean... I guess their first two albums are serviceable... But even then they never warranted a big career in the same manor that The State (Nickelback), My Own Prison (Creed), and Abrasive (Puddle of Mudd) did. I've pretty much ran out of stuff to say about this band, They are so painfully generic that I can't even find any interesting critiques for them.
They just need something to comment on to keep their "hard" appearance and not expose themselves i mean this video is very specific how did one stumbke across this? Hmmm i wonder
Listening to a Theory Of A Deadman Album is like shoveling a driveway in a blizzard. You don't wanna do it, and you're just going through the motion just do it so it's all done and you HOPEFULLY won't have to do it again.
I'm not a fan of their new material, too much of a change from their old rock sound. I seen them live a few days ago, and honestly they put on one hell of a show. They played World Keeps Spinning and History of Violence from this album and it sounded great. I can see why there is such a negative stance on their new music though. Very talented band live though without a doubt.
I mean, when it comes to Nickelback, their first few records were good for me. I have no problem saying that. Curb, The State, Silver Side Up and parts of The Long Road are all things I enjoy. After that, I cherry pick the good songs from each album. With Theory though? Oh God, I can’t even. I’ve never liked anything from them.
Ok so... I feel like it's a difficult line to tread, criticising bands who try to make some kind of politicised social commentary, because you have to be very very careful to criticise how effective the commentary is, and not just criticise them for making a point that maybe you don't agree with. On the other hand... I feel as though lines like "Baby I love you to death" (in a song called Ted Bundy!) SHOULD be criticised. (As Megadeth once said, "D'uh!") So well done for largely managing to walk that tightrope without falling into the trap of "I don't like the message so let's kill the messenger".
I still like their lyrics, but I agree with a negative opinion on their band. They are no longer even an adequate rock band, it’s literally just strong lyrics over 45 minutes of very generic pop sounds. It’s like some random person made a million dollars, bought the most tech-savvy sound machine, and went with whatever they pushed and hit. History of Violence is a mostly well-thought out song though, but I also agree that that song is very contradictory to their history as a band.
savages is definetly the last decent ablum. Their older stuff is better for sure gasoline the first album etc. Savage not as good but at least good enough I can go back and listen to and still feel like I"m listening to theory of a deadman. This new stuff is just a shell of their former selves. Like I really don't understand why change your sound that drastically when your fans who listen to you obviously listen to you for that reason.
I don't care about them, but one point about the theme. I don't know how bad these songs are, maybe "we don't know anything about the current socioeconomical problems of the world but we want to talk about so people think of us seriously" bad, but it's kind of strange to see people (everywhere, not aimed only at you) complain about an artist changing the subject of their songs. If white men in their 40s release an album about strippers and stuff like that, we would be complaining about it too. So, this is something I think we should think about when talking about artists and their evolution or lack thereof.
It is extremely hard for me to not like one song from a band but theory of a Deadman or theory whatever I don't like one the only song I remember is RX
Idk if it's much better than Wake Up Call, but the album has a more serious tone. It certainly is a pop album, but it's more inviting to rock elements than the last one was. I have to admit Black Hole in Your Heart is amazing, though. I would like Ted Bundy more if it wasn't fucking called Ted Bundy... but Affluenza is a song I admittedly can feel and love (sorry). The album falls off a cliff tbh... gets significantly more boring in the last 3 or 4 tracks.
Have kinda been waiting to make sure we’re not getting new music so that my list isn’t outdated instantly lol. But I am doing a few MCR themed videos soon!
I actually really enjoyed their older music up until Savages to be honest, but now they lost the majority of their old fans who liked their heavy stuff and gained almost none with their new music. Absolute Lose-Lose situation for them.
I remember hearing Theory on the Spider-Man soundtrack (the Tobey Maguire one) with the song Invisible Man. I really miss that era of their music. It's really sad how bad they've gotten. So agreed on this review.
"Black Hole in Your Heart" is the only song that I remotely cared for. It's a decent pop rock song that's got a decent hook. Otherwise, this detour for Theory doesn't work. They are nothing special. Their first two records are somewhat interesting, but from Scars & Souvenirs onward they've largely been hit or miss... with mostly misses. Not to mention that - sadly for Tyler Connolly - he has never been a good singer and now fully embraces auto-tune even when performing live. He has it in him to be a half-decent songwriter, but the last two records definitely testify against that claim.
Wow that was one hell of a roast. Didn't expect you would be this mad at this album. I've heard it a lot of times and it is boring and bland (aside from the first 2 songs). It is better than Wake Up Call IMO. But before you could call it your worst album of 2020, do listen to Bieber's latest 😂 Nice tanktop BTW, looking fitter, happier and more productive 🔥

Theory of A Deadman used to be worst post-grunge band of all time, now since nobody cares about this drag of a genre, they decided to become worst pop "rock" band of all time! For real though, this album is gutless, stupid and empty garbage, but for me it's too boring to really hate, for me it's 2.5/10
Totally off topic, but just like we were wondering if Theory would bounce back from their last album (and we all felt like you do there, yikes lol) im curious how you would react to HU new album. Its definitely worth a listen! 👍
Rock Gone Wrong: Green Day soon? Oh wait you reviewed that trashfire positively😂 Lol I’m just messing with you Jon, I agree Theory of a deadman is trash
Theory Of A Deadman should've just SAID NOTHING! Amirite? BTW, in all seriousness, I never thought TOAD were good to begin with but the song "White Boy" off of this album, that killed my reputation with them forever. Including snippets of a racist shooting in a song should NEVER be tolerated. EVER. There will never be length to how bad this band can get. Period.
After Rocked Reviews trashed this album, I was wondering when you would. I repeat, I’m not a Nickelback fan but I’ve heard worse bands. Theory (Or whatever you want to call them) is one of those.
As a Theory fan, I did not like this album at all. Only 3 songs were listenable to me. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! This review and Rocked's review were entertaining!

People diss Nickelback, but these guys are even worse. Nickelback at least has some listenable content.
I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I really like Nickelback’s first two albums, “ Curb” and “The State.”
@@kylehegedus5498 you're not the only one, and it's no secret that those two albums are their best.
You're right, their music is so unoriginal and bland, 0% personality.

I will be eternally grateful for my parents introducing me to Green Day at the age of 5 so I didn't have to discover this shit first.
