To me it feels very nostalgia-biased when everyone’s against any newer albums being included on principle. We shouldn’t have to wait for an arbitrary amount of time for an album to be judged as great.

You know how shit music taste is today when people are outraged that anything by Kendrick fucking Lamar isn't on it. Billy Joel isn't on this list. Neither is Queen, The Who, The Police... Fuck Kendrick.
this why they shouldn't called it ''100 best'' when they don't stick to that and instead create some mixture of popular albums and critically acclaimed ones in arbitrary order
The miseducation of Lauryn Hill is such a good album, it was both commercially and critically successful. She won 5 Grammys for that album including Album of the Year making her the first ever Hip Hop artist to win that category
The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill is an excellent album ("Ex-Factor" and "Everything Is Everything" are other great songs), and certainly deserves a place in the top half, maybe even top-10, but number 1 is just silly. I think they're overrating it simply because she was essentially one-and-done (if you ignore her Unplugged album), so we just got this one gem without any follow-up. I still highly recommend listening to the album, but Apple really missed the boat with some of these choices. (Oh, and Baduizm is also worth a listen - "On and On" is just a brilliant R&B track).
It takes a special amount of guts to put Nostalgia Critic's The Wall at number 1. Of course, the Top Ten is also extremely eclectic, featuring the likes of Crazy Frog, BrokeNCYDE, Kidz Bop, Emily Montes, Epic Rap of History, and Soulja Boy next to Ringo Starr, Rachel Platten, and Billy Ray Cyrus.
No Queen, no Green Day, no RHCP, no Black Sabbath, no Linkin Park, no Iron Maiden, no My Chem’s TBP, no Blink, no Kiss, no Ozzy, no Van Halen. Absolute insanity.
If you look at an aggregate of all time critics lists, none of those artists currently have an album in the top 100. If you look at the biggest sites where the public vote (RYM/Best Ever Albums) only Black Sabbath have an album in top 100. Queen are very close with ANATO. Many of those artists listed I've never seen appear in the upper echelons of albums (which is different to fan favourites). If it were expanded to top 200 you may have seen some of the others
I like blink but this is the top 100 albums compared to the hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of albums that exist. If a top 2000 albums list were made I’m sure EOTS or Untitled would make it, and even that’s a huge deal cause 2000 out of let’s say 400,000 albums means it’s in the top half of the top 1%. Just to put things in perspective.
@@NuMetalfan1996 That’s just personal opinion. They may not be quite as highly revered by the general population as some of the artists who had albums in the top 100 but still have solid fanbases and records that are still listened to and discussed by many to this day.
Apple missed Demon Days, Violator, Mezzanine, Select Ambient Works 85-92, Toxicity, and most importantly... TPAB. Yikes. Meanwhile they put a Taylor's Version album at 18, when she has better... 💀 Not to mention that they were lacking a lot of rock, grunge, and metal. There were a lot of decent picks on this list, but baffling inclusions and omissions like these are kind of hard to look past.
im happy that someone agrees with me on AM, don't get me wrong, i love that record, but to pick that one over Favourite Worst Nightmares is insane to me, must be because of the popularity it got
I love 1989 but you have got to be kidding me if you think that the re-recordings are not only better than the original, but better than Homogenic, Revolver, Hounds of Love, NFR, RATM, Kid A, Paul's Boutique, Straight Outta Compton, The Fame Monster, DSOTM, Beyonce S/T and more? Really? I'd have put 1989 in the 80s or 90s tbh.
I’m also a fan of Taylor but 1989 is out of those albums’ league. Putting it over illmatic, 36 chambers, the downward spiral, london calling, when the pawn… and more is just insane. They should’ve put evermore or folklore around the 70-90 area and not 1989 in the top 20.
@@atunnelunderswiftblvd it kinda irks me how people say Folklore and Ever ore are her two best albums. I mean they are good, bit the songs don’t come close to her all time best. No Wildest Dreams, no You Belong to Me, no Red, no IKYWT, etc.
Depeche Mode- Violator should have been on this list. And they should have made a rule that there is only 1 album per artist/band so other artists/bands could be on the list.
Why? This always baffles me when people want to set an arbitrary number of entries for each artist. Is this not a merit based list? What is the point, if you just want a list of inclusion? Like I said on my other comment, this is not D.E.I.(diversity, equity, inclusion). It is supposed to be a list of the Top 100 albums of all time. If an artist has earned(yes I know it can be subjective if metrics of measurement are not established) more than one entry, and you exclude it so that an album that is not deserving of a placement gets its spot, how is that a Top 100 Albums of All-Time list? Wouldn’t it just be a list that simply includes as many artists as possible for the sake of representation?
No Depeche Mode is beyond insane and I'm pissed that no one is talking about it. I lowkey wish the Björk sleep paralysis demon joke made it in this final cut, that was hilarious lmao I really want to know what your thoughts on Homogenic will be once you hear it. It's one of my favorites of all time.
Hybrid theory is very rarely mentioned in the pantheons of great albums so it's absence doesn't shock me Doesn't appear in top 3000 albums on acclaimedmusic On public voting sites it is around #612 on Best Ever Albums and doesn't appear in all time lists for RYM/AOTY Fiona Apple though would have been a good shout
I swear I was shocked. I was expecting Hybrid Theory to be at least in the top 50 or even top 25. Best selling rock album of the 2000s. Their songs are everywhere, people make videos with those songs. Even people who aren't into rock, can like the songs from HT The #1 reason I watched this video, was to see at which place would a Linkin Park album land... 🫤 At first I was even mad it could have landed between top 100-80, I was like it better not be that low... And now I'm like, I'd rather it be 100 than not even be in here. This is why I never care much about these lists made by companies with 0 taste or knowledge. They put on so many new albums and many that are meh. Oh well 🤷🏻♂️ it's crApple. Also no Queen, Green Day or Coldplay.
You thinking Purple Rain is too high is crazy, not only is it just an incredible album from the vocals to the guitar work, the story telling, but it was extremely influential
The worst list I've ever seen. A Taylor Swift album less than a year old over Pet Sounds? Totally insane. No Grace, Siamese Dream, Bridge over Troubled Water, Black Sabbath, Queen, Elliot Smith, Doors, The Who or Ray Charles?
I’m surprised they put SZA’s SOS instead of Ctrl because Ctrl is not as bloated and has a little more longevity than SOS which is still a fantastic album. I’d out them both on here if I could but I personally thing Ctrl should be on here
5 pure electronic albums and 5 crossover electronic albums? Not bad, though the bias is definetely strong. 'Untrue' by Burial is a 2007 UK Garage album that Resident Advisor and Pitchfork insist is essential for 21st Century electronic music, because they singled it out as the one very important album in a very underground genre.
You've never heard the Burial, Erykah Badu, Massive Attack, John Coltrane, Bjork, Public Enemy, Lauryn Hill albums? Damn, you should listen to this ASAP because it's really weird for a music channel guy. And you listened to Portishead only this year...😐
Are you aware of how many albums are in the world? I can’t consume everything nor do I want to lol, I’m always expanding and discovering but I have to make time to actually listen to the stuff I love too

Lauryn Hill is better selling, more influential, and with one album, a better recording artist than Prince, Michael Jackson, Fleetwood Mac, Nirvana, THE BEATLES, etc...!? W T F ?! nah...
As a huge Weezer fan I'm sad they didn't put Pinkerton or the blue album smh. But what did I expect from a list with a huge rap/hip hop bias? 😂 Even then, some of these picks are just so weird. TPAB should've been on here at least..
The Taylor version of her albums is more for the ethical statement and precedent for later artists than it is the sound or funneling more money to her. At least IMHO
@@plusmin09 well mostly because a) she started out as country, and even though the albums had some pop singles on it, 1989 was her first full pop album, and it was a successful transition, which is rare for country artists, and b) rather than just copying the trends of the early ‘10s, the production was a lot more closer to the 80s and 90s pop. A lot of pop albums since have followed this type of production, like The Weeknd’s After Hours for instance. So yes, it is mostly for the music. While I think 18 is a pretty high spot for the album, it’s pretty understandable when you take into account it was one of the biggest albums of the 2010s. That’s just my take anyway
Linkin Park should’ve made this list. Downward Spiral at 74 is ridiculously low. MBDTF is a top 10, putting it at 26 was a political move, it’s especially a political move when 1989, 21, & Lemonade was ranked higher. I get why people hate him, but you can’t base good music off politics, it’s exhausting to see this from the media over & over & over again. No TPAB, Iowa, or Toxicity is insanity. Unsurprisingly an awful list.
No American Idiot, Homesick, Californication, White Pony, Korn, Hybrid Theory, Pantera, Welcome the Black Parade, A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out, Iowa, Ramones, Siamese Dream, Toxicity, Van Halen, Blue Album, or any Queen?!?
Top 100 is a very tiny number when you consider it covers 60 years since the album era began. If you included all the mentions people had on here it would be a top 600.
Lists like this are just done for the rage bait to garner as much attention and as many clicks as possible. Most of the albums on this list, while for the most part very good to excellent are not anywhere near the 100 best OF ALL TIME level. What they essentially mean is the most popular 100 albums in North America over the last 55-60 years...mostly of the last 30. But that isn't as punchy on a headline as The Best 100 albums of all time!
Humbug is an absolutely insane album, and probably my favourite album of all time beside trench by twenty one pilots!! It’s such an underrated record that deserves the attention AM got. but AM only here because of hits like do i wanna know, wyocmwyh, i wanna be yours, ru mine, and the likes. Even their debut should be here instead of AM. this is coming from an arctic monkeys fanatic
why the hell is fiona apple so underrated! when the pawn and/or idler wheel are top 100s. No grunge rep other than nirvana? Soundgarden superunknown, Alice in chains Dirt, radiohead the bends, lemonheads its a shame about ray, RHCP - blood sugar, STP - core, tori amos little earthquakes, pj harvey rid of me, FNM angel dust, New Order, The pixies dolittle, the Verve bss, Live throwing copper, jeff buckley grace, no doubt tragic kingdom, pavement crooked rain, sebadoh bakesale, silverchair diorrama
I can think of two albums off the top of my head could have slotted somewhere into this list. 1) "Permanent Vacation" by Aerosmith, as the album that brought the legendary (and now officially retired from touring) band back from what could have been a decade's earlier ending. Sure, "Walk This Way" coming back in 1986 with the Run-DMC collab helped to reintroduce Aerosmith to a younger audience, but "Dude (Look Like a Lady)", "Angel" and "Rag Doll" are some of the best songs the band ever did. Even tracks like "Heart's Done Time", "St. John", "Hangman Jury", and the title track are strong deep cuts in an even stronger career discography. As much as I do enjoy Pump, Eat the Rich and, yes, Nine Lives, this one here deserved a spot on the list. 2) "Fat of the Land" by The Prodigy, as an album that perhaps, if it didn't define and star the "big beat sound", it most certainly did its part to bring it more to the mainstream and to more listeners. I know "Firestarter", "Breathe", and "Smack My B**** Up" were the big radio hits, but I personally loved "Diesel Power", "Funky S***", and "Serial Thriller" just as much if not more. Add in a strong mid-section with "Minefields" and "Narayan" coupled with the final two tracks "Climatize" and their cover of "Fuel My Fire" by L7, and I'm sure there is NO misses on this album at all. In fact, I'd go as far to say that, whatever you consider the weakest cut on this album (for me personally, it's either of the last two cuts on the track list), it's still better than the stuff on a lot of their previous and following albums.
The list in there doesnt make any sense. They are no great albums from that list like Kendrick and more. I think they are more in the commercial more than the critical i think?
They “claim” it wasn’t about commercial success, idk, there are plenty of albums that aren’t that commercially successful featured but it feels like apple split the list between critical darlings and blockbusters
What are you waiting for, friend? This is apple music. You have to please your main attraction, I wouldn't have been surprised by an album of hers in the top five
Agreed. It’s not even her best album. But am I the only one noticing that Jon seems to have a one-sided beef with Taylor. Other artists on this list are also billionaires or multi millionaires but he didn’t mention it for anyone else. I was looking forward to his review of her new album but was disappointed that it was a critique of her person rather than the album itself
@@RJS1974 Not when you are talking about the Beatles. Besides, its not an arbitrary set number of albums. It is supposed to be based on some kind of merit. It is pretty easy to argue to Sgt Pepper or the White Album is higher quality, more culturally and more historically significant, and they definitely sold more copies than the vast majority of the albums on this list. What is YOUR reason for limiting them to 2 entries? Just because you think it is an acceptable percentage representation of the whole? This is not DEI. This is merit based.
@@RJS1974 Based on? So my question still remains. Why arbitrarily limit the entries per artist in a list called “Top 100 Albums of All-Time”? Do you NOT see how that marginalizes the validity, title, point of the exercise? You cant be this dumb, can you?
@@RJS1974 Just give me your reason, like I asked. Or disregard my comment altogether. But to just pick one little part of my response and point out something that is vague and irrelevant, does not advance this discussion at all. Are you suggesting that their “opinions” should be ignored, in order to include albums that did not qualify, according to their “opinion”? What is the point you are making there? WHY??? Justify it, or realize how dumb your comment was and disappear.
I would say lemonade goes above rumors but not whats going on... Whats going on should be top 3 for its cultural impact i think. I also think there should be melodrama instead of pure heroine and melodrama should be much higher than top 90, maybe top 60, in addition to that they should have aphex twin, bob marley and fioana apple instead of a lot of these artists such as taylor swift, drake and bad bunny.
having Back in Black at 90 angers me, its 6th in most units sold and is the 3rd best selling Hard Rock album of all time, its the album everyone goes to when asked "whats the best Hard rock album" 90 is a crime for one of the greatest Rock albums ever made
Taylor Swift over Dark Side of the Moon is disgusting work. Even as someone who doesn't like prog all that much, Closer to the Edge by Yes should've also been on here. One of the best prog albums of all time (even if it's just 3 hella long songs) and you're telling me Taylor Swift beat that? Smh Apple is always pandering to the lowest common denominator
Hardly any punk or metal representation is bizarre. Missing a ton of alternative rock, post-punk and indie rock staples too. Just a strange list overall. Everything from the album selections to the ranking of the albums is off.
How have you never heard the Lauryn Hill album? A lot of the hip hop album on this list that I don't think deserve to be on the top 100, I have no issue with this being number 1.
No way there can be a top 100 list without Linkin Park's Hybrid Theory or even Meteora. SMH like 70% of those albums are no way better than HT. It defined numetal/rap rock/alt rock in the 2000s.
I think everything on here is arguable except for 1989. I’m not even a Taylor Swift hater. I just think it making the list at all and choosing the new version are utterly insane.
Wait you haven't heard Massive Attack yet!? Blue lines is a good place to start but bro, just wait until you hear Mezzanine (can't believe it didn't make it onto this list too smh), literally every other album you listen to from then on will be subpar in comparison no matter what (production and mixing mainly), like I genuinely cannot put into words how unbelievably flawless and good it is, it is one of the most sonically unique and absolutely timeless albums ever, if it came out tomorrow it'd still sound so fresh and unique. I can guarantee you've heard either Teardrop or Angel off of it at some point, and if you like Dummy by Portishead you're for sure gonna enjoy it
I get that this isn't really a list of albums you listened to, but I still noticed from the other videos on your channel that you don't seem to listen to Asian music and I was wondering what you thought about it. If you don't listen to it at all it's alright, I was just curious
@@Shah-of-the-Shinebox "I'm sure it's a fine album" In other words you've never actually listened to it and assumed that because it was by Taylor Swift it doesn't belong in 18
Wow some garbage in this list that 100% doesn't deserve to be in there and almost no alternative music, punk, metal...... No Green Day, Teenage Fanclub, Fiona Apple, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains.
I'm conflicted. Yeah. I guess I can be mad but I also don't want to come off looking like an angry old man yelling at the moon and tossing young peoples' music or something.
Hey, can you give a chance to an indie/alternative album titled “Right Place, Wrong Person”, it’s entering some charts in the US right now. There is a really cool weird MV for the song LOST!
So in short: again it's proven that these lists are nonsense. To much urban, to much American artists, to few 60s, 70s and 80s. And a lot of strange choices overall. This only proves the limited perspective of the jury.
No American Idiot, Dookie, Red Hot Chili Peppers, or Hybrid Theory (which I think is one of the best debut albums ever). And how are they going to put Nevermind in the Top 10 but not even include Alice In Chains' Dirt, which imo is the best grunge album of all time. The list is a joke. Too much hip-hop and not enough rock, metal and alternative.
Hybrid Theory should have absolutely been in the top 10 no questions asked. It’s one of very few Diamond certified albums and the influence it had was off the charts (no pun intended)
As much as I love AM it’s not their best album it’s like what fantano says about thriller great songs and singles but that’s what it is. The first four work so well as albums
Nice review of the list man having not seen it before a lot of them wouldn't be my choices ..a lot of them I've never heard ..including the number one have heard a lot about it but will have to give it a try ..it seems like a fair list overall though no rights or wrongs to these things are there just tastes and opinions. I will probably never get the huge fascination with Taylor swift though a couple of weeks ago I saw two 30 year old women talking about how they were selling their cars to go to more Taylor shows haha it's insane ..to me she just seems like a good pop singer with catchy music. Apparently they are starting a module on some kind of higher education course analyzing her lyrics as well lol I'm sure I heard that somewhere. Maybe I'm just a bit put off when albums / musicians get SO huge though.

No Demon Days is an absolute travesty
Yeah at the end Gorillaz were one of the ones I shouted out as being shocked to not see…
No blur albums, either
The Prodigy - Music For The Jilted Generation or The Fat Of The Land.
Been hoping for Viva La Vida or AROBTH of coldplay tbh.
Same
A Rush of Blood is a perfect album and should be on a list that calls itself "The Best". Viva La Vida not so much.
No Alice In Chains, no Tool, no Judas Priest, no Aerosmith, no Rush, no Pearl Jam….
@@SuperDmath I also forgot those. Those should’ve made a spot.
Apple missed Demon Days, Violator, Mezzanine, Select Ambient Works 85-92, Toxicity, and most importantly... TPAB. Yikes. Meanwhile they put a Taylor's Version album at 18, when she has better... 💀
Not to mention that they were lacking a lot of rock, grunge, and metal. There were a lot of decent picks on this list, but baffling inclusions and omissions like these are kind of hard to look past.
Toxicity? Oh please, I'd put Korn self-titled or Hybrid Theory before that garbage
Toxicity garbage?! HAHAHA man, wow. Thanks for the laugh. Calling Toxicity garbage while praising Korn’s horribly aged self titled is certainly a take
im happy that someone agrees with me on AM, don't get me wrong, i love that record, but to pick that one over Favourite Worst Nightmares is insane to me, must be because of the popularity it got
I thought that To Pimp a Butterfly would be in the top 5. How was TPAB not on this list?!
because its shit
I prefer the TS version of Wildest Dreams, but yeah the re-recorded version shouldn't be on there. The original definitely belongs on the list tho
@@atunnelunderswiftblvd it kinda irks me how people say Folklore and Ever ore are her two best albums. I mean they are good, bit the songs don’t come close to her all time best. No Wildest Dreams, no You Belong to Me, no Red, no IKYWT, etc.

Imo this list has a mixture of good, great, and bad. Nothing else to say.
Don't think there's a truly bad in there but there are a few 7-8's in where only 9-10's belong
Apple's list of definitive bullshit.
Astroworld above hotel California lol
Astroworld shouldn't even be in top 100 of ALL TIME
Depeche Mode- Violator should have been on this list.
Like they got EVERYTHING it takes to get into a list like that.
- Still has massively popular bangers to this day despite being released 40+ years ago.
- Got critical acclaim, even got selected to Rock'N Roll Hall of Fame.
- Super influential and genre-bending band that changed the music industry forever.
Like what? What the hell is the critieria?
Very suprised to see The Fame Monster, but it's more than deserving. Probably the most captivating debut album/artist of the last two decades.
Never giving the creators of this list the AUX
I lowkey wish the Björk sleep paralysis demon joke made it in this final cut, that was hilarious lmao
I really want to know what your thoughts on Homogenic will be once you hear it. It's one of my favorites of all time.
Also one of my favorites. Amazing album.
This is a very “west coast” minded list.
ad no tpab smh
Genuinely shocked Hybrid Theory by Linkin Park or When The Pawn... by Fiona Apple isn't on this list 😱
Hybrid theory is very rarely mentioned in the pantheons of great albums so it's absence doesn't shock me
Doesn't appear in top 3000 albums on acclaimedmusic
On public voting sites it is around #612 on Best Ever Albums and doesn't appear in all time lists for RYM/AOTY
Fiona Apple though would have been a good shout
I swear I was shocked. I was expecting Hybrid Theory to be at least in the top 50 or even top 25.
Best selling rock album of the 2000s. Their songs are everywhere, people make videos with those songs. Even people who aren't into rock, can like the songs from HT
The #1 reason I watched this video, was to see at which place would a Linkin Park album land... 🫤
At first I was even mad it could have landed between top 100-80, I was like it better not be that low...

To Pimp a Butterfly is Kendrick's best album
You thinking Purple Rain is too high is crazy, not only is it just an incredible album from the vocals to the guitar work, the story telling, but it was extremely influential
Revolver was before the trip to India
The worst list I've ever seen. A Taylor Swift album less than a year old over Pet Sounds? Totally insane. No Grace, Siamese Dream, Bridge over Troubled Water, Black Sabbath, Queen, Elliot Smith, Doors, The Who or Ray Charles?
Um, the album’s from 2014 lmao (edit: and yes, I’m aware the rerecording’s from 2023, but I’m still right either way)
I’m surprised they put SZA’s SOS instead of Ctrl because Ctrl is not as bloated and has a little more longevity than SOS which is still a fantastic album. I’d out them both on here if I could but I personally thing Ctrl should be on here
Listen to the #1 and give us a review please or at least tell us your thoughts. I think it’s a great album
A very overrated album, definitely not #1 of all time caliber.
Not one Sufjan Stevens album 😢
You've never heard the Burial, Erykah Badu, Massive Attack, John Coltrane, Bjork, Public Enemy, Lauryn Hill albums? Damn, you should listen to this ASAP because it's really weird for a music channel guy. And you listened to Portishead only this year...😐
Are you aware of how many albums are in the world? I can’t consume everything nor do I want to lol, I’m always expanding and discovering but I have to make time to actually listen to the stuff I love too

Even then, some of these picks are just so weird. TPAB should've been on here at least..
The Taylor version of her albums is more for the ethical statement and precedent for later artists than it is the sound or funneling more money to her. At least IMHO
Same. I mean, it’s probably not her best (but neither is folklore, imo), but I’d say it’s her most influential album.
@@danielpatternson6149 her most influential due to the rerecording of it or the music itself?
A minute in and hearing that astroworld is ranked above hotel california. Oh god
Never thought I would see someone suggest the Lemonheads on here lol
Also I assume you mean Urban Hymns for the Verve, Bitter Sweet Symphony isn't an album
I’m genuinely surprised that Odelay by Beck didn’t make it on the list. Also the complete lack of any Green Day kinda pisses me off.
No Hybrid Theory what a crime.
Out of 100 albums all time? Not a chance, does not deserve it
The list in there doesnt make any sense. They are no great albums from that list like Kendrick and more. I think they are more in the commercial more than the critical i think?

This list is a JOKE! Only 2 Beatles albums and no Sgt Peppers? Pathetic!
2 albums on a top 100 of all artists is enough.

So in short: again it's proven that these lists are nonsense.
To much urban, to much American artists, to few 60s, 70s and 80s.
And a lot of strange choices overall. This only proves the limited perspective of the jury.

Selling your car for Taylor has to be the most cultish thing I’ve heard yet 💀 they can’t stop supporting their favorite billionaire.
