  • There is a short 3 minute documentary of the North American tour from 1976, then the concert starts.
It has often been rumored that there wasn't a high quality recording of the film in the archives, but this release on 'The McCartney Years' box set shows that there is a high quality print hidden away and hopefully it will be released in it's entirety
Rockshow is a 1980 concert film by Paul McCartney and Wings, filmed during their 1976 North American tour. It features 30 songs from four concerts of the tour: New York, May 25 (four songs); Seattle, Washington, June 10 (five songs); Los Angeles, California, June 22 (15 songs); and Los Angeles, California, June 23 (six songs).
This version was taken from 'The McCartney Years' DVD box set from 2007, but unfortunately only 30 minutes of the concert where included. Paul McCartney has said that he is reluctant to release the whole 30 song concert on DVD.

I saw the tour in Chicago. They were perfect in every respect, absolutly kickass songs played to perfection. It was an era of amazing shows on a weekly basis and Paul and Wings brought the bar up to a totally new level. You can't even imagine the power of their sound filling the auditorium. Truly mind blowing. And this is pre plug-ins and correction software to help less good to sound good. They didn't need it. They simply nailed every tune. It was a freakin amazing rockshow!

I saw this tour on their 2nd night in May 1976 in Houston at the Summit. I was right in front of Paul and I have a photo! It was the best concert I've ever seen. The band was so tight...it blew everyone away. Watching it now gives me chills! The Summit was smaller than this venue and more intimate so, I feel lucky that I was able to see it in the beginning of their tour before word got out that it was THE Hot concert to see. I also realized then..how dedicated Linda was to Paul and Wings.

July, 1976, Kemper arena, Kansas City Mo. One of my first concerts, and still to this day one of the top 5 shows of all time out of 100s of shows in half a dozen countries.
This is musical talent that has long since vanished.

I was at the Kingdome show as well - came all the way from Australia. There were thousands of us waiting in the car park by mid-afternoon and I was blown away by Paul coming out amongst the crowd, with no obvious security (apart from some cops, who weren't hassling the "smokers") and joking and shaking hands all round. I'll never forget what he said to the people standing in front of me: "So.....are you guys going to hang around for the concert?"

I was 21 at the time this tour happened .. Used to go to many many concerts back then . Saw all of the great groups . Saw this show in Long Island sitting 3rd row center downstairs . Just a few yards from the stage .. The whole 90 minutes plus blew me away . It was the best i have seen up until that point . I'm a Singer , songwriter , musician , Producer . And most people say a very good judge on music . Also covered some of the wings tunes on stage back then .

He killed it in Orlando last weekend. Sounded every bit as good as this video, played for 2:30 and did three encores. If he is coming near you on this tour, you gotta go!

James 'Jimmy' McCulloch (4 June 1953 - 27 September 1979) was a Scottish musician and songwriter best known for playing lead guitar in Paul McCartney's Wings from 1974 to 1977. McCulloch was a member of the Glasgow psychedelic band One in a Million (formerly known as The Jaygars), Thunderclap Newman, and Stone the Crows.[1].

Great Shows, Paul! I remember running to the cinema, but "Rockshow" wasn`t anymore in it. Then I waited for the VHS Video. The "Venus and Mars" Intro was and is great, like the rest of the gig! Paul rules!

Tacoma Paul, enjoyed your comment, brought back HS memories, 1976 also. Happy times continue (@a "slightly increased ticket $ - but, correct sir, this is why we work). Peace everyone. Happy Sunday.

He may not hit every note, but the guy stands on stage for 3 hrs and doesn't even take a sip of water. When he hits those notes, it feels like nothing else!

Did you see him either on Saturday or this past Monday at The Barclays Center? It was an amazing show. I think I'm gonna post a video clip or two I took. If you didn't see him, make sure you try the next time he comes over to Brooklyn. Out of all the concerts I've in my life (very long life!), this had to be one of the best, if not THE best.

You kids today think everything is "doctored" you're not used to gifted bands. You must realize that this is one of music's all time greatest artists!! A perfectionist. It is 38 years ago and sounds amazing. And it's because they are gifted musicians, there are plenty of people there to provide any type of backing vocals or any percussion needed. No doctoring involved what so ever. It will be a travesty when all these legends are gone. What are you going to do, listen to maroon 5 and Coldplay? ;(((

While I completely agree with your statement, the concert has had some things done to it. At least the rockshow dvd version released by eagle rock. Nothing major, though. Just some refinements to the sound from the original release

They didn't record the Tuscon show. They recorded a few shows from America and then one from Scotland and one from Australia.

Paulie chose the Seattle Kingdome to film all of "Rockshow" (was there!!! 3 days after I graduated high school) !!! June 10, 1976
Finally got front row.... Kingdome is now long gone... in it's place is Safeco Field... and he's playing there July 19th.
And I have front row tickets ! I get to be 18 again ! HA !
1976 the tix were an outrageous $10 ! general admission....
This time ... front row ticket with sound check ... just a B I T more.
Hey, it's why we grow up and get jobs.

Paul is amazing, and so was Wings however, this performance is doctored... I don't know this for a fact, but I'm 99% sure they added additional backing vocals and probably some other stuff too. I find it hard to believe that those backing vocals are representative of what they actually sounded like. Still a great performance and awesome concert.

    • @saezvirginia4575
      @saezvirginia4575 10 років тому

I don't wonder if they added some backing vocals and backing intruments, because it was usually to do it at the time. Felton Jarvis, Elvis Presley's producer, used to do the same for the Elvis live albums released in the 70s. However, these same Elvis concerts have been now re-released in their original sound, and you know what? I prefer the original sound. But every period has its fashions... :)

Yea but paul cant sing like he used to and when you saw him in his prime it will be a litte sad to see his powers leaving him. even the greatest people are human and it is difficult to see, but i still love paul and i am sure i would still be glad to see him live again, you have to give the guy credit he loves what he does and he gives it his all. they should start using autotune for his voice, he has paid his dues and that would be just fine with me, and he would not have to strain or stress

There's no talent Linda. Keyboards not even turned on. Microphone dead. She and her father that was Pauls manager made Paul write and record all of the stupid songs in the 70's and '80's. She really held him back.
