Great blog, and a good update on the local protest situation. My family and I am heading to Cala Bona in 4 weeks and we're really looking forward to it.
Got back from my latest trip to Alcudia last Tuesday, (the day the airport flooded!) Not affected by any protest and the locals I met were all really friendly. The price increase this year seemed quite large, also didn’t appreciate the big increase in beach sunbed especially when there’s reduced facilities with less toilets and no on beach bars/restaurants. It definitely had an effect as there were a lot less people on them.
Are there any toilets at all on the beach. I know there aren't any beach bars til they all get rebuilt. I agree that Alcudia' is beautiful - hope we don't get priced out
@@dianeharkawenko6476 there is 1 male and 1 female toilet in the lifeguard station. I think there are a couple of other standalone ones but not many and much less than when the beach bars were open. You can pay 1euro to use the toilet at Paraiso Beach hotel/bar.
Good video Alex, as always. I have something to add, the mosquitos have woken up 😬 Just got back from an evening out here in Alcudia, discovered 7 mosquito bites. So watch out!!!
Thank you, Alex - very well put - I think you’re doing a great job. We’re planning to visit out of season, and look forward to seeing Palma when it’s not full of tourists.
Staying in Puerto pollensa for third year in a row. No issues at all from locals. Restaurants very welcoming. Multi hire doing a lot of business with sun loungers etc. Quite a lot of people still on the beach using hired and purchased sun loungers. In fact it is quite nice not having rows of sunbeds. Anyone thinking of cancelling their holiday (although I can only speak gor Puerto Pollensa) don't bother. It's as lovely and laid back as ever. Thank you Alex for giving the truthful side of what's going on.
Got back from there last week and everything was fine. Everyone was welcoming. Don't read the press - go and enjoy your holiday. I'm off back there next week 😊
Thanks so much for your hard work and great information about the island. Question… Have you been to Son Doblons? If so, what’s it like?? Greetings from 🇺🇸
What bizarre dilemma. Without the tourist most have no jobs. However, with tourists the locals experience all sorts of marginalization. I do not know if the business owners are up to political intervention or if the politicians see the advantage of limiting investment in tourism. Thank you for the video.
In most resorts the locals love the stream of tourists because it brings lots of easy money. That changes in the second week of July, when the stream turns to a flood, and it all gets overwhelming.
These bad news stories are growing arm's and legs here in the UK. Hopefully the locals have their genuine grievances sorted. It's important for them .....Happy locals- Happy tourists Wishing them every success in their endeavours .
Alex, can you recommend a time to catch the buses so that it doesn't impede the locals travel? When we are there on our holiday we catch the bus from Magaluf to Palma for a day trip into the city, if I can avoid catching it when it's going to be packed I'll quite happily wait until then.
It's bloody lovely over here. We arrived yesterday. No problems at the airport we're in Palma Nova and there's plenty of sunbeds. It's quieter than usual but still a good amount of tourists. My daughter has a sunflower lanyard and we booked special assistance so hopefully no problems on the way home. Jet2 recognise the sunflower lanyard as we had help at Palma Airport last year.
My family try a different country/island/ area each year. Haven't found a bad one yet. Apart from the normal pressure buying, or local bar inviting. Looking at Bulgaria for our next one, just not enough information.
Great update. I know and understand about the bus situation, I live in a tourist town and when you finish work you just want to get home but some tourists don’t understand about queuing and just push in, that’s just bad manners. Thanks Alex.

Just back from Puerto Pollensa, had a great week, had no problems with feeling that we should not be there. Plenty of people on the beach. Used the buses, yes these were very busy and had to stand on buses to Alcudia and Pollensa. We will definitely be back!!
Arrived back in the UK last Tuesday, spent 10 nights in the Santa Lucia, Palma Nova. We did a lot of sight seeing and eating out, met plenty of locals and I can count on one hand how many grumpy locals we met, it could have been that they were having an off day, which we are all entitled to! The beaches were fairly empty, never saw/heard any anti tourist banter, in fact we had a great/lovely time so much that yesterday we have booked to return next year, different location though as we want to experience more of Majorca (we normally go to Tenerife), cannot wait to return.
Ty for the tips! I have a question for you? I am going there for the first time only 2 nights, but debating where to stay, in the city center or by the airport l arena, I will arrive kinda late around 7:30pm so missing the whole day, but I do want to go the beach next day. What do you think about melia hotel Palma closer to the airport is that walkable to the city center at night, is that safe to walk to the city center at night. Thank you so much for any tips. Best, Leo
I'm still going this week!! The protests are also about the state that tourists leave the beaches in - discarded tampons, nappies, garbage, cooler boxes, beach mats etc that people cannot be bothered lugging back to their accomodation with them and just leave it all dumped on beaches. That doesn’t help the situation and gives a bad impression of tourists. I'd be protesting too! Spoiling beautiful coves like Caló des Moro is a disgrace! Take your trash with you!!!!!
I have cancelled my holiday to Mallorca as I read tourists are not allowed so I am going somewhere else Its really shame as I never been to Mallorca before
Hi Alex, im at el Arenal at the Moment and I have to say I don't feel like I'm not welcome. But I understand the feeling of the Mallorcanan People it is really crowded at some places. And there are so many drunk Germans/etc.
Special assistance at Palma, which I'd booked, they were fantastic with my parents. The press, for whatever reason, are blowing this out of proportion - storming onto beaches! Seems to be the world over sensationalism is worsening. Port de Pollenca was so friendly. Local people do have, rightfully, concerns. The number of hire cars on the island is madness. The house prices unattainable for me if I was a local. We have these concerns in parts of Britain, so protesting to your govt is understandable and there will always be a small group of antagonists. Buses - I travelled outside of rush hour cause why would I want to be rushed for the one week I needn't be and be annoying at the same time. Such a beautiful place with lovely people.
Came back last week. It was the same as always. Our Mallorcan friend said it's nothing to do with tourists. Please please don't let it bother you. We're going back in 10 wks.... can't wait 😊
To be fair, you did interview a lady who felt tourists were not welcome as the beach was empty of sun loungers. There are loads of people reading the news and to be fair you have supported issues against tourists. Hence people will go elsewhere. I am here in Tenerife and saw some news but seen nothing here. It’s just the same as always. But if anyone says I am not welcome, would never come here again and spend my £6000 a year elsewhere.
If I'm thinking about the same interview in Port de Pollenca, I was there at the same time, the lady thought the sun lounges weren't put out as a message to tourists to say they weren't welcome. Alex explained that it was bureaucracy from the people who govern the Balearic beaches being slow to give permission. The lady's mind was actually put at rest and she agreed she hadn't had any issues personally. For me, the beaches looked nicer without them, the only minor convenience being toilets which was get-overable. People travel to Formentor to mostly sit on towels for that reason, the beaches look beautiful.
There’s also been many comments of where tourists spend their money and it not going into the local economy but instead to big chains. We work hard and earn our money and it is up us where we spend it. Mallorca has beautiful beaches but not much else. You’re ok if looking out to see. Look behind you and you’ll see masses of concrete buildings.
You’re right about much of the tourist income going to big multinationals. And about Mallorca’s beaches being beautiful. But you’re totally wrong about whats’s inland! Mallorca has some of the prettiest villages in Spain and the Tramuntana mountain range is a UNESCO World Heritage Area. Next time you visit, go inland a bit and have a look. 😎
I've just returned from a holiday in Puerto Pollensa. We were made very welcome, no bad feeling shown to anyone. The lack of beach facilities is down to Bureaucracy and nothing to do with tourists.

@@davidholgate123I am sure I read somewhere, that the first design was actually meant for San Francisco airport who rejected it. Yes,a truly ridiculous long trek both at arrivals and departure ..that’s even before walking to the gate and if unlucky, then still stairs and shuttle bus to aircraft with yet more stairs, I don’t know if a shuttle train would be a viable idea between terminals and after security to exit , they do have them at some US airports. Personally, I much prefer small airports, but it is what it is.

As previously mentioned, the locals have demonstrated against tourism and, of course, they will 'win'. Well done Mallorca locals and goodbye for ever. Enjoy your beaches with no tourist income.
The demand for buses should be addressed why doesn't the bus company put more buses on the most popular routes. It's not good for locals who have to get to work or tourists for the matter.
We came last year in May and September and the busses were rammed. I feel for the locals but the councils gave permission for all the hotels / tourism.
Last year it was the forest fires in greece, with high temperatures, well its hot evervyear and islands are prepared, also it was reported as arson. This year its about top may tourist in mallorca, well its all scaremongering and rubbish in the press to stop us all going on holiday. Im still going for sure to mallorca
Flew from Palma airport today, security took 15 minutes. Immigration and passport stamping took 15 minutes. Once into area A it is a different way into the gates area and a nice duty free shop. Food area nice and Burger King automatic ordering was easy. I found no hostility from any Mallorcans while in Puerto Pollensa. If people don’t want to come then it is their loss, go somewhere else
Saarbrucken is in Germany and in an area called the Saarland which is close to the border with France. The Saarland has an interesting history in that it was separate from West Germany after the Second World War and effectively ruled by France but in the 1950's voted to become part of West Germany.
@@chris3341 Hi Chris, I wouldn't say the UK is depressing. We have everything from lakes, mountains, beaches, lovely countryside, pubs, some lovely cities. The only thing we don't have, is the sunshine.😎😎
The lady who commented about the sunbeds in Puerto Palencia clearly hadn’t done any research as it isn’t about anti tourist it’s about the tender process… once Alex explained that she was fine. TBH they could reduce the numbers as they have increased over the years I have been visiting . This was a disappointment when we arrived as PP as it is a vibrant beach area. However you are correct it is all about sustainable tourism and about locals being able to live here and get to work etc. You get the same problems in Devon and Cornwall …tourists please respect where you’re visiting otherwise stay at home.. I have been here 10 days. Everyone has been very welcoming. Everyone has been friendly. Everything has been just as it normally is except no sunbeds but that isn’t the locals or the hotel is it’s the tender process and the government who should manage the tourism and the infrastructure. Thanks Alex for a measured response! We will certainly be back!
Well she had just arrived to come on holiday to be fair. Many people are busy on the run up to their holiday with their lives, and probably won't be researching local issues...
@@MallorcaUnderTheSun Yes I appreciate that and she was fine after being informed but a quick google on arrival answered my question.. I wasn’t going around believing the press 😊
I can understand the locals anger at the loss of environment and quality of life caused by mass tourism. It’s time to let tour operators and airlines know that Majorca has reached saturation levels and flights have to be restricted by quotas, otherwise where does this all end? I am surprised there is not more demonstrations tbh, it’s locals that have to decide their future not airline executives multi nationals and politicians wanting to line their pockets, can’t you see the uproar in the UK over immigration levels, the situation on the Island’s is much more dire!
The climate also weather will get more extreme anywhere as the oceans build up more energy by record warming, so more vapour in the atmosphere has to condense(as rain) somewhere⚠ Gaz UK June 2024
The climate if anything is less extreme, the increase in global temperatures is uniform and insignificant, more vapour in the atmosphere would cause a decrease in temperatures as cloud is the biggest factor in temperatures around the world .😊
I urge anyone thinking of cancelling their holiday to Majorca.... Listen to what Alex is saying. We have just spent an amazing week in Alcudia. All locals were as welcoming as they ever have been. No protests at all. The UK media are not to be trusted!!
I’m having difficulty feeling sorry for them when they only work 6 months of the year and then block people from entering beaches that work for 11 months a year and have 1 month annual leave It seems those types are the extreme of the group. No one ever stopped locals going to the beach and whilst in holiday I would not have even know the difference with all different nationalities around me.

You're missing the point..
They're protesting against over tourism
when come the vid about calla millor flamenco update
It’s out - see my last video - it’s in there 😊
Santa ponsa 1st july for me 🎉
Very good info, with disabilities with different ages. Still coming to majorca whatever they are saying
It's beautiful here it's 29c now, I'm in alcudia, problem is where I am it's not great
What's not great
The demand for buses should be addressed why doesn't the bus company put more buses on the most popular routes. It's not good for locals who have to get to work or tourists for the matter.
We came last year in May and September and the busses were rammed. I feel for the locals but the councils gave permission for all the hotels / tourism.
I read in the news that tourists not welcome anyone
Really shame
Have you watched the video ?
No British are not Welcome, there is a difference
Is it possible to hire a car from the airport at 2330 ? We are going to Cala Ratjada but flight won't land till 2250
Find out which car hire halls stay open late - you’ll have to do some research - and find out the terms and conditions if you’re late too
Can't wait to get over to Palma nova
First come first served for the buses.
Looks a bit dif from last week Alex ❤️😊😊
Iam still going to Majorca

Saarbrucken is in Germany and in an area called the Saarland which is close to the border with France. The Saarland has an interesting history in that it was separate from West Germany after the Second World War and effectively ruled by France but in the 1950's voted to become part of West Germany.
FANTASTIC - thank you so much for this info !!
Just give Majorca a break this year, until their council get things sorted.
@@chris3341 Hi Chris, I wouldn't say the UK is depressing. We have everything from lakes, mountains, beaches, lovely countryside, pubs, some lovely cities. The only thing we don't have, is the sunshine.😎😎
Over there for the first time July. but feeling a bit apprehensive. will let you know how it goes. Keep up the good work. xxx
You are not welcome. As the lady says, don't think about getting on a bus. Or a beach.
Hello Alex
Really looking forward to our October holiday. Not put off at all.

Yes I appreciate that and she was fine after being informed but a quick google on arrival answered my question.. I wasn’t going around believing the press 😊
Came in yesterday from Aldergrove and was through passport control in 3 minutes. The biggest delay was collecting my luggage which was 20 minutes
🤙
Hi alex still beautifully under those sunglasses 👓 🕶 keep smilling
she loves her sunglasses, right!
She looks good OK
The climate also weather will get more extreme anywhere as the oceans build up more energy by record warming, so more vapour in the atmosphere has to condense(as rain) somewhere⚠
Gaz UK June 2024
The climate if anything is less extreme, the increase in global temperatures is uniform and insignificant, more vapour in the atmosphere would cause a decrease in temperatures as cloud is the biggest factor in temperatures around the world .😊
Wouldn't do it for us in uk just saying 😅
Magaluf here we come
I urge anyone thinking of cancelling their holiday to Majorca....
‘They only work 6 months of the year’ 😮 and how to ‘They’ pay their rent for the other 6 months, never mind be lucky enough to take a holiday! 🙄
