Insanely so. That solo not only showed off his chops, but his humor and paid tribute to those before. I totally marked out when he went into "The Trooper." Excellent player.
Also keep in mind this is Satchel’s style of music. It’s cool you keep doing what sounds good to you and don’t necessarily change with the times. For example, look at current rap music. Everybody does mumble rap now, including the old heads.
Gifted player. I think the whole Pussy Melter mentality cuts some credibility automatically. Was at GIT while he was there, but I'm sure he looked like everyone else then.
@Nathan Thompson Then the fix the problem in 5 minutes, but he wouldn't let the rest of the band come out again lol i mean he can totally carry at least 20 minutes of non stop comedy and guitar playing
I know some people think he's a joke, but it's a parody band. His talent is legit. He's a really good player. I remember reading somewhere that Paul Gilbert talked about guitar players that were scary good, and he mentioned Russ Parrish (Satchel) and Shawn Lane.
@@brucewayne2184 Yeah they were alive in the 80s, but the band was not formed until the 2000s. That's like saying the Beatles are a 40s/50s band because they were alive then.
This is a good solo don't get me wrong. I wouldnt say its the most entertaining out there though. I'll give you a few others to look up. Look up george lynch wicked sensation outtakes. He improvises all of it. Heres a hidden gem not many know about too: look up craig goldy philly solo dio live. I like sharing my guitar solo knowledge with other shred heads.
People that have never listened to him really have no idea how good he is...An encyclopedia of songs...very underrated in a world of artists that can only sample music from other people...
Satchel is a seriously underrated player and performer. The whole band is. Michael Starr is a seriously talented singer too. These guys just put on a great show. ✌🏻
Probably one of the best guitar solos I've ever had the privilege to see in person. Satchel is an absolutely incredible guitar player. Undoubtedly one of the best on the planet today.
Shit, if this was back in the 80s, he would be up there with the huge guitar heroes, SP are all amazing musicians, maybe the last great metal/ hard rock band
Just recently learned he was one of the guitarists in Rob Halfords band Fight! Their first album is one of my faves of that time. Quite different from Steel Panther 😄 Super guitarist!
Satchel you can stop showing off now wait keep going Honestly this is part of why I like and admire him as a musician the band itself is amazing and very funny Satchel well to say he's amazing at what he does is quite a understatement I'd go to a Steel Panther concert just to see satchel show off like this and really he has the skills to entertain similar to freddie mercury
he’s a fabulous guitar player. If he has been out in 1977...EVH would have been a run around- man. Way to go satchel. ur fantastic. I love doing this live. I toured for 18 months...
Wtf at 5:00 he's shredding some malmsteen. Satchel rules, actually my fave stuff from him I like is the Atomic Punks VH cover band with Ralph from Steel Panther as well. Ralph does a better DLR than DLR.
After seeing VH on the last tour in 2015 I think it was....and how bad DLR sang......VH would have been better served getting Ralph to sing and touring with him.
The beginning was mostly improv with scales. Just saw an interview with him and the inner guitar teacher in him came out. He said if you want to make bitchin riffs then learn your guitar scales.
Its apparently a compliment/counterpart to the original Eruption solo, hes hitting queues and phrases that match it bar for bar but yes its mostly playing around with the modes of other scales so that it has a very similar style and theme to the original which is pretty cool

I love how in addition to being in a band that’s a huge meme, he’s an insanely talented guitarist

extremely underated....He would be a poster on every 70's kid's wall if this was the 70s
Satchel plays so clean. He's one of my favourite players, doesn't get enough credit.
this. super underrated
Gifted player. I think the whole Pussy Melter mentality cuts some credibility automatically. Was at GIT while he was there, but I'm sure he looked like everyone else then.
We're all trying to get way beyond the 80's is why. Hes a guitar players guitar player like satch, malmsteen, Vai or Holdsworth
Satchel's playing is undeniable!
I love how he mixed vh licks with paul gilbert licks and then some yngwie lol. Love it
he's great at keeping the audience entertained and interested

No one thinks he's a joke.
It's not really a parody band. It's just an 80s band with jokey lyrics.

He can sing lead for the band; who needs Ralph?
Yeah he's so technically good.
This band wouldn't work if they weren't killer musicians.
Well, not too many bands work if the musicians suck.

When you're so damn good you can take the piss and still be better than 99% of all guitarists.
A true Eddie Van Halen Fan
Him and Dime def got that "Van Halen" thing on them, plus this band started out as a Van Halen Tribute Band Called "Atomic Punks"
Sounds a lot more like Randy than Eddie
@@lgv3051 he used some eruption licks though, you can just hear the heavy Inspiration

I love the fact that they don’t take themselves too seriously but this band has talented artists.

I hear Nuno in his playing sometimes...and that’s the biggest compliment I can give this guy. Hands down
HELL YEAH!!! That gave me chills..what a underated guitarist!!!
Brilliant performer in every aspect!
SATCHEL ROCKS!
Holy crap! I've only seen these guys' interviews. This is actually some melodic playing right here
