The fact that they included the "Tooth-Pulling" bit with Pirelli, is very rare indeed. I've only heard that on the Original Cast Album, before this.......that's even rarer than the "Judge's Song".........

I know Johanna mea culpa is a sort of pretty song that does gives depth to the judge-other than just making him heartless. It’s cut from a lot of performances. Like I understand why but I would’ve included it.

Mrs.Lovett in general is funny and crazy, she was in the movie as well, helena bonham carter was AMAZING. and so was Johnny depp as sweeney todd. Honestly could not have been a better cast.
That was the best and most fun "By the sea" I ever seen!! Besides, it is a ver dificult song to sing, it has a choreography!! Mrs. Lovett was so anoying that I couldn't do anything else than Love her!!!

Loved this version of Not While I'm Around. It was great to see that remorseful side of Lovett that is heartbroken that they will now need to kill Toby. Reminded me of how Helena portrayed it in the film version.
Loved it, but the band overpowered the actors in most parts, which was my only issue

First time I saw a production of Sweeney Todd where the orchestra is on stage!!! Sadly, should not be done.
It is drowning out the actors.
Seriously, this could work if you had a chamber orchestra, but with that many instruments, you gotta muffle the sound somehow.
I'm hoping the theater they did this in has high ceilings on stage, which would swallow a lot of the orchestra sound while the actors' voices come through the mains - that way the audience would have gotten a more balanced mix than we're getting here.
Still, just use the Pit, yall

This is my favorite version of "A Little Priest" I come back fairly regularly just to listen to that bit.

Excellent performances by the cast. Orchestral balance a bit too strong, but I know the score so well it only interferes at times. And hands down the sexiest Sweeney I've seen to date. Daniel Megaffin should be a major star IMO. He totally rules this incredibly difficult yet rewarding role.
Agree with you on the Sweeney front, lol. I can understand why Mrs. Lovett was so willing to go along with murder now...

I really loved it!! This is my favorite version of the show so far. Sweeny killed it! However, Mrs Lovett was my favourite as always; I loved Mr Pirelli as well, brings so much personality to the show. Congratulations!!
Beautiful performence! One can do more than needed when trying to nitpick anything but overall amazingly done. The only big complaint I'd have is that the band overpowered the actors and in most parts I found myself not understanding the lines but rather completing them from memory.

My friend and I are planning on doing a two person rendition of the Sweeney Todd songs as a Halloween special to open my UA-cam Covers channel, so I’ve been scouring UA-cam to find different versions of this musicals as a way to kind of research and get into character. I have to say, I think this might be my favorite version! Antony just looks so sweet and innocent! I know that’s how his character is intended to be, but none of the Antonies I’ve seen get it down to the degree that this one does. I think this is the best Pirelli I’ve seen as well. The outfit was perfect for the character, and the actor played his craziness. Johanna’s voice isn’t annoying but still hits all the notes, which is refreshing to me. Sweeney and Lovett are amazing of course! I love that Sweeney has long hair in this one- I always thought it was strange that he has short hair in every play. Like this man was in prison in Australia for 15 years, and came so bent on revenge when he got to London that he wouldn’t have had the time or the care to cut it himself. The only time he could have gotten it cut was on the boat, but something tells me he was so broken he didn’t care when he was on the boat either. He also looks like a normal, everyday civilian, which makes everything more eerie because you have to rely on the story and songs to see him as the villain, since he doesn’t look like one. (well, not counting the times the actor makes his p.o.d face 😂). He and Lovett look really happy during Little Priest, which is sooo refreshing. All the other ones show them happy and laughing true, but not to the extent of this one, which Iove!

The movie was visually interesting, and the actors were good. That said, it did a huge injustice to Sondheim's work.
I think it is worth mentioning that this version has nothing to do with the film by Tim Burton, sorry for the fans of Jonny Deep, this is an adaptation of the orginal play of Broadway with Angela Lansbury and George Hearn although the movie is of high quality; They are very different productions (theater and TV)
And no offense, but the original play was made in the 70s on Broadway; and even earlier in London :)
I do know this was an adaption of the musical from the 70s but I saw the movie before the musical

No one comes close to Len caribou. I hated George Hearn. Michael Cerberus and lupone were ok, but so different. Angela lansbury’s mrs. Lovett is an incredible thing. Up there with Zoe caldwell Medea and masterclass.
I don't care for the lighting. It gives almost everybody hollowed out eye sockets as if their heads were skulls. Even the singer playing Anthony sports that look in the beginning when he sings about London.

the audience is very interactive here - laughs for the beggar woman at the start, which i've never heard before. i really appreciate that, actually, even though it's not a particularly funny show.

I thought Maddy Mant was fantastic. During 'My Friends', before her lines come up, she was over there breathing hard like a cheetah, ready to pounce on him. And Queen Pirelli too; although he's not the best singer, his performance was great. Seemed that Daniel Megaffin had to warm up. He really butchered a few big notes in 'My Friends', but by the time he got to 'Epiphany' he was hot. What was so jarring , and a pity, is how flat the horns were. In "Ladies in Sensitivities" Beadle has several high notes in the quartet, which were struggling against that horn. B t this is a very ambitious musical, and they did great.
The peecussion being so prominent is a beilliant choice. Especially in the ballad and Epiphany.
I really wish my school's version was up because all the other ones I have seen of school's doing them are absolutely horrible

i like this adaption less than the 1982 original cast version but more than the 2012 london adaption, making it my third favorite of the seven adaptions i have seen so far and giving it a 7/10 overall
Ehh, good for a musical, I can tell their hearts are truely in it. I'm in love with the cast. I just kind of wished it was more grubby, dark, and dirty, if that makes sense. I also think Lucy should look a bit more crazed. This is just my opinion though. Maybe I'm too Tim Burton biased if you get my drift.
Mrs. Lovett is perfect! though I don´t love the fact that Sweeney is a little too angry and overacted sometimes (like the dance in A Little Priest, the choreography in By The Sea and the ending dance before killing Lovett) the singing skills in this performance are amazing, thanks!

Only thing is that I think it wasn't right that Mrs Lovett was wearing a fancy outfit at the Pirelli scene already. She should look more broke in the beginning

Who the hell let the actress hit him before "my friends". The actor playing sweeney must remember her he is a serial killer. Non sense... that is agression to an actor... worst direction ever!
As I was the actor who was hit in that scene, not only did I approve it, but I also encouraged it. It also was in line with the characters and how we interpreted them.
