His American accent on the show is flawless.
I dont know what it is, but I always thought his voice was slightly feminine on the show, and that might be a result of him having a natural English accent or something. Regardless of if it was done with intent or not, it's perfect for Tom.

I wish he was asked how he mastered the American accent. I find it so amazing how he captures it so well. I had no idea he was British.
most UK actors study American accents in theatre school and there is so much US television broadcast there they pick it up easily. It doesn't seem American actors to the same though Rene Zellweger and Gwyneth Paltrow did master it.
Have you never seen the film prejudice and pride(2005)? 100% British! hhaha
We are exposed to American accents all the time on tv and films, much easier for a Brit to do a American accent than the other way round.
@@maclin52 that may be, but very few British actors actually master the accent. Hugh Laurie and Matthew are two of the few.

@Jo Ann Jecko good to heard this but I have a question why he didn't get lead role in movies after his brillant acting in Pride and Prejudice. He did very few movies and that too had small role. This thing break my heart 💔💔. But love Matthew Macfadyne from the core of heart.
@@ritikajamwal6257 the 2005 p&p was all about keira from lizzie's perspective. He didn't get to display his full potential there as well. Joe cast him keeping this in mind. Keira was a teen sensation after pirates so he wanted someone not so popular to balance it! He should have been a little more aggressive in seeking more character based roles to show his full range
@@poojapoojary9107 but his potential was apparent in P&P with all the expressive subtiliy acting, and it gets more obvious as you keep rewatching P&P, his acting in P&P is like a wine aging getting better and better after each rewatch. Not many british actor has his qualm and suspense in acting tbh. Joe praised him alot on how he express emotion with just simple body language and gaze.
@@minus21334 yes I agree very nuanced performance but not a show stealer like knightly. He could've leveraged on that one film to do more diverse and strong characters in his choices thereafter. I hope better for him still!

I literally can't hear Tom in him at all. Usually you can at least tell they're the same voice, but Tom sounds like he was dubbed by a difference actor. Incredible...

I can totally see that! Love Alan Rickman as well! They've both done movie adaptations of Jane Austen books as well! Pride and Prejudice, as well as Sense and Sensibility! Both great films!
He does such a good Minnesotan accent! I'm in MN and he sounds like one of us! Was surprised to know he isnt even from USA
And usually Minnesotan accents are overdone. Totally hear the Minnesotan vowels, but someone not living there anymore.

Such a fantastic actor. I love his tormented character on succession. It’s so real how he turns from simpering kiss-ass to tyrannical bully. It’s like he’s fighting his natural soft down to earth roots to play with the cutthroat soul-less elite so he can’t help that his reactions come out sideways. It’s so good.
That dichotomy about him is what threw me when I started watching. I was desperate for someone to root for but Tom started going from doormat with shiv to frat boy hazing bully with Greg.

He's so wonderful, after watching him in Ripper street and P&P, it's so interesting and unexpected to watch him in a role like this, he's such a great actor.

This interview is pleasant and enjoyable to watch ., Matthew has a wonderful aura about him which pulls people in.. he strives to make the interviewer comfortable.. the young man came across as a bit nervous at first ., as the interview proceeded they both seemed to be having a nice chat ., have noticed this before with Matthew ., he is such a warm ., friendly .. likable guy .. and yeah he remains respectful ., elegant ., composed ., sometimes you just want to give him a hug for being so sweet!

Can't believe how many have commented they didn't realize he wasn't American. Do yourself a favor and watch some of his earlier stuff - he's a tremendous actor - amazing voice, great skill - and has been around a long time. Pride & Prejudice, Death at a Funeral, Little Dorrit, Ripper Street, Howards End...
One of my favorite portrayals of Matthew's is the spy Tom Quinn in SPOOKS (MI-5).
