what I love about this scene is that it shows both man's strengths. Tim is a salesman/showman so he can work a crowd, he is a good tool man but he gets carried away by his showman side. Al is a tool man and very knowledgeable but he isn't a showman and is there to make Tim look good. I love how Tim takes Al's role and adapts to it perfectly showing he is a good tool man and is knowledgeable in tools but he is more knowledgeable in what makes a show and how to run a show.
@@bigbubba29 they really did and I think this episode really showed there somewhat reluctant relationship from beginning seasons that developed to the later seasons when they were extremely close
@@Fallows-rh3mi I like to think that after this, Tim does give Al a crash course on how to host a show and work a crowd, because in Season 3 Al is way more comfortable being the host when he and Tim guest-host Cooking with Irma. (Which is ironically the episode I watched just before this clip). It's a good thing that the writers portrayed Al and Tim as much closer friends after Season 1, the show worked much better as an odd-couple friendship instead of adversaries.
I always loved Al. He's such a big teddy bear. I was a little girl when Tool Time came out and I watched it waiting for my cartoons and ending up enjoying it!
1:18 you can see Tim try to keep it together. Richard Karn must've done it differently in rehearsal to get that sorta surprise from him. Not too shabby to get a laugh from the comedian!
I love the way Tim handled this. He did everything so Al could understand in that moment, that we khave fun doing this show, I do jokes because I like them, and you shut them down because it's just a part of what we do, and everyone eats it up, and it's a part of why we're friends
Great clip. Highlights the difference between being The Man and The Man Behind The Man. Many assistant managers haven’t succeeded as managers because they haven’t the presence or showmanship to inspire people, to be great figureheads.
I used to watch this show so much, I really enjoyed the home improvement lesson how to care for your home. 🎉 Tim Allen And Pamela Anderson, who said good looking people were dumb and couldn't put a nail on the wall. Take away the stigma of being good looking. 🎉🎉 Home improvement for sure.
That molding joke is real funny to me yo this day. This segment just goes to show the importance of staying in your God-given gifts/area and appreciating others in theirs.
In the episode, Al says to Tim, "How hard could it be to tell bad jokes and screw up everything???" meaning hosting Tool Time. So Tim let him host the show. Once. Supervisor A001 - Avernus FTN
Nice one - I never saw that episode, but I remember they had a "reversed roles" scenario on a later episode in a cooking show, which Al seemed to manage quite well while Tim had his problems as the sidekick at first.
tim did it to teach al a lesson my teacher did that with me in school once i was in her seat teaching the class and she sat in my seat being me. it was intresting
Daw I kinda wish there was a compilation or something of everytime Tim holds up that mailing address lol ---------- Actually - other way LOL. Forgot AL is the one that always held it up.
One question, folks!! I know the episode where Tim installed the intercom in the house and overheard Randy call it Fool Time. But does anyone know of or heard of the episode where Tool Time is on location at the house and the intercom picks up one of the boys about to do something illegal/immoral? I don't mean finding the pot in the back yard.
Cam Farr that is a real episode. Tim was really upset with Randy for his disrespect. In that same episode, Tim opted to do Tool Time using safety as a measure of presentation which surprised Al.
You couldn't really blame Al for wanting to host since he'd been the butt of Tim's jokes for so long now, but he learned a good lesson about how hard Tim's job really is and hence why he was able to joke; so in turn had more respect for him despite all the teasing. Al would of course go on to host while Tim and the family were away to Jill's dad's funeral much later, but I' sure other times offscreen as well.
@atfatw Ok, first, "dumbbell?" What are you, four? And second, he wasn't rich then. this was pre-fame days. Dumbbell? Seriously? Someone in this conversation certainly needs to grow up and it's not me. Name-calling? Real spiritual of you...whatever is ailing you, I hope you get over it. Perhaps adding more roughage to your diet?
Uhhh.. so why did they make Al seem like the more talented, knowledgeable guy every other episode and suddenly he sucks at doing the show? He's completely out of character here.
he didnt suddenly suck. this episode was meant to show that being the host and being the assistant are very different. Al was nervous and floundering because he doesnt have the qualities that Tim has. he makes for a great assistant because he is very knowledgeable, but a poor Tool Time host because he cant match Tim's confidence, energy, and wit. he wasnt out of character. he was just out of his element.
MNico1992 Correct. Al for the first time was carrying the show and it's pacing. He had to fill in the dead air while setting up the next sequence. Something Tim was good at but not Al. Al wasn't out of character, just realizing that he was failing and starting to get flustered until Tim stepped in and got him back on track.
Because reality. I'm a pretty technical guy but when I had to do a presentation in front of a bunch of people I just got dumber. I felt that my brain was working with half its power because of how nervous I was. You never realize how hard is to be a showman until you actually try it.

Beautifully well put. :)
a good side kick is one that can pull you back from the brink of disaster.
And if your friends with Tim you’ll be falling a lot.

I forgot about this one! Poor Al. I liked when Tim subtly came to the rescue and Al got his confidence back.
Al did actually host when Tim went to Texas for his father-in-laws funeral.
🤣😂🤣 This show was great! The two of them had such great chemistry playing off each other great show
Sure miss these two together on this show! So great they were!

Damn it was a little hard watching Al fail as a host
No worse than watching him host Family Feud.

Lima bean joke was actually funny because it bombed
Haha how he yells Bottom and Tim’s reaction
This was such a great episode
I laughed when he started talking about buying Lima beans at the supermarket 😂😂
Joke bombed but that’s why it’s funny
I laughed so hard too 🤣
Hey! Can't you count?
WOMEN! heh. Are you with me on this?
*woman stands up and leaves
That lady walked out like he offended her lol
Al called him Tim the assistant man Taylor. That's so Al! Can't believe Tim wore flannel
Hosting a show is harder than it looks.
Al: I would like to get some off my chest.
Tim: that tie?

i love this show! =D
You could really tell Al was totally uncomfortable without his trademark flannel shirt. Lol
"What does a flannel shirt on a hanger say? Al come here, I feel empty inside."
Doesn't a little part of you die inside when those tears come out of Al's eyes? It's murder :(
Hey…Al got to host his own show eventually, Family Feud.
They had the best chemistry in the entire show
Al was much more confident when he hosted the Cooking Show, though he did make a mistake there too.

And Tim did Al's salute? Tim, you are Al now.
Last night, my mom said that one of my Facebook friends looks like Al. Now I can't unsee the resemblance.

Oh geez, I bet it was hard for Tim to keep from cracking up throughout this whole scene.
He's just acting, but that's pretty much how it really is every time I try to make a UA-cam video. I can't find my words.

What episode was that?
I always find it uncomfortable watching someone fail like this.
His panting 😂😂
Forgot how much worse Lisa was than Heidi.
We Remotely Low she didn't really play as big a part in the show
Debbe Dunning was given the time to create a character that Pamela Anderson was not.
Hedi is better looking too
I've seen Baywatch. Lisa was never going to develop. Debbie/Heidi was a sweetheart.
Debbie Dunning was a much better announcer. Pamela Anderson sounds absolutely lifeless
yup
He just needs practice.
Al is like a little kid in this lol
thank you, al
no, thank YOU, tim
