    Just discovered this today in 2024 as version 2 - and it’s easily the best and most underrated m4l device. Can’t believe no one talks about it. Changes Ableton into modular sequencer. Absolutely brilliant

    Richard, I’m experiencing some odd behavior using Hocket II. Rather than each note playing to its full length as in original Hocket, only the last note sent plays out. Each note is cutoff by the one following. Does this make sense? Is this behavior as intended? Thanks!

    • @eatfrenzy

      i’ll have to look into this. i made some changes to deal with stuck notes, which could be a problem with v1, maybe i can make a better solution, or i could probably make the changes switchable if folks want the legacy behavior back.

    Sweet! This works while playing the midi live too I guess? I could use this to spread a melody to surround speakers around the audience

    • @eatfrenzy
      @eatfrenzy  4 роки тому +3

      absolutely. i was just playing a loop in the video to keep it quick and simple, but there are lots of other possibilities.
      in order to spread a melody out to different speakers you would either need: 1. an audio interface with multiple outputs, patching the output of multiple instruments to different outputs. (and a bunch of speakers obviously..) or 2. multiple hardware synths plugged into amplifiers.

    @rico claws Hey Rich , is there any way for me to record the midi into these separate channels ? Everytime I try route it , it plays the full melody instead of the step. Also It appears that it doesn't always stop at the 1 mark and sometimes it'll start playing from he 3 or 4 , is there a reason for that ? Thank you for such a fantastic device and I hope you are able to answer my questions. Have a great weekend !

    • @eatfrenzy
      @eatfrenzy  2 роки тому

      Hi, sorry for the delayed reply but here is how you do that: Hocket S. sends MIDI out, other channels receive the MIDI notes, then additional channels record the MIDI from those channels. Simply set the MIDI input on channels that are recording to the channels that are receiving the notes (ie. record from the channels with Hocket R. on them). As for your second question, the sequence play order just picks up where it left off. An easy way to reset it is to turn the number of channels down to 1 and then back to where you had it. Maybe I'll look into a counter reset kind of thing? Thanks!

  • @whois6903
    @whois6903 2 роки тому

    Thank you for this idea. It's certainly cool as is, and might be even better if one could MIDI trigger the moment and channel to allocate instead (i don't know if this is technically feasible) !

    • @eatfrenzy
      @eatfrenzy  2 роки тому

      I'm not totally sure what you meant by "MIDI triggering the moment".. but all controls on Hocket can easily be automated in Live, so you can map the number of channels to a knob on a MIDI controller for instance, or use automation lanes to switch the not direction or even switch the receive channels. Thanks for the feedback!

    Hey, first off thank you so much for making this. I literally wanted to learn Max in order to build something like this. I have no idea if you ever intended on upgrading it but I was wondering how complicated it would be to add a MIDI channel selector in order to be able to use multiple of these in a single session? I wish I could do it myself but I'm unfortunately very new to programming in Max.

    • @eatfrenzy
      @eatfrenzy  2 роки тому +1

      That's a good idea and I think i could implement it. Hocket doesn't actually use MIDI channels to send note messages, all MIDI routing in Live is handled exclusively by Live, so note messages are sent via Send and Receive objects in Max. Anyway, I'll see if i can make this work... Glad you've been enjoying the device!

  • @dreamsyukon8449
    @dreamsyukon8449 3 роки тому

    Any chance you want to tackle a Shift Register? I'm sure you're already familiar with them, but if not, it basically keeps outputs normal note information but also passes pitch values to consecutive outputs as new pitches are entered, bucket brigade style. It applies the current gate info to all of the outputs. If you made one, you'd have created a more capable Intellijel Shifty synth module in the box!

      @@HAJJ101 dreams yukon was talking about an analog shift register, which tbh is kinda hard for me to explain lol. but it passes the pitch information sequentially to a number of instruments, so the instruments all play at the same time but they play different notes (unless you just play the same note over and over). Hocket on the other hand, plays one note at a time.
