- In this woodturning video I turn a natural edge vessel turned from a very hard piece of Oak burl. There were lots of inclusions in this piece which I was tempted to fill with resin but I decided to leave it natural and finished it with a Danish oil..

This piece is absolutely exquisite! I love that you gave it a nice "foot" rather than cutting it off. Beautiful work! ❤❤❤
Thanks
WOW!!!!!!! WOW!!!!!!WOW!!!!!!!.
The grain in this piece is absolutely amazing.
I like that you show the actual pace of work rather than having it all sped up but also enjoy that you speed it up for the sake of time. Beautiful work.
Cheers
Outstanding piece! The grain and live edge are gorgeous.
Thanks
Beautiful wood and work. ❤ 😊
At 7:26 I stopped and just said WOW! That grain is just plain gorgeous! I'll watch the rest but I was sold right there. I REALLY enjoy what you do. Thank yiou. --- LATER --- I did watch the rest and this is stunning. Thank you for NOT doing resin on this. Knowing when to quit is a very special skill.
Thankyou 👍
Super glad you did not fill the inclusions with resin, you allowed the beauty of nature come through. Excellent!
I'm looking forward to seeing more of that little hedgehog that was hiding on the shelf behind this burl when you first took it down, but today's project might be my new favorite. I love the way you sanded the inclusions to make them part of the beauty of the piece instead of flaws.
Thank you
Another beautiful piece Andy, well done.
Many thanks!
Wow!!! I love this piece, the grain is just amazing
Thank you!
Your work inspired me to try different things with my lathe. I just got a sphere jig in the mail. I can’t wait to work with it.
That is awesome!
Could I get the link to the sphere jig ?
Вы удивительный мастер, очередное прекрасное изделие с безупречно выраженным рисунком созданным природой и искусно представлен мастером. Браво👏👏👏👍👍👍
Beautiful wood made a beautiful vase, Andy. I like the foot you left on it. I also thought it was interesting to see you sanding those cracks.
Bill
Thanks Bill
What a beautiful work of art!!
This is perhaps my favorite of all the pieces I’ve watched you produce. Love that you took the time to clean up and finish the individual cracks. Nice composition, beautiful result. Well done indeed.
Oftentimes less is more, and this is absolutely one of them. Beautiful, simply beautiful
What a beautiful vase Andy flawless as usual
Stunning work on a beautiful piece of Oak Burl. I really enjoyed this one.
Thanks
Pretty piece of wood. You used a great design as well. Super piece.
Cheers 👍
What a start to the new year….a beautiful creation from a dull dried out stump ♥️ Happy New Year to all 🎉
Thanks ..HNY
What a fun and beautiful vase. I wish you would've shown us the finiished inside at the very end. The earlier glimpse seemed to be even prettier grain than the outside. That and shone a flashlight inside the vase in a slightly darkened room. It would've been interesting to see the effect of light on the wall being emitted from the cracks. Even still, very much enjoyed the video. Thanks for sharing.
So happy that you didn't fill the inclusions with epoxy! Stunning! Thank you!
Thank you!
Well Andy, this may have been "Hard As Nails" but with your extremely talented and gifted hands, you turned this ordinary piece of wood into a masterpiece! Bravo Maestro!
Absolutely gorgeous texture to the wood.
It’s so beautiful! Love everything about it! ❤
Another excellent piece, shape is brilliant!
Lovely work Andy - I'm glad you highlighted the inclusions rather than fill them as they really compliment the figure of the Oak!
Many thanks!
Beauty sans bling. Totally compelling and satisfying. You have such an uncanny eye for line, and form, and overall esthetic impact, Andy! 👍
Thank you 👍
Loved the shape and the natural edge! Stunning work!
Thanks so much
The grain is very, very! For me…looking at the piece of wood you started from, I had no idea that was hiding in there. You did. You animated it and brought it to life.
Beautiful Creation, it lives once again!
Thank you very much!
Very pretty! I like the clip where you install the steady rest. Thank you for showing it. I also like the sanding disc modification too. Very ingenious.
Thanks
Very beautiful. Wonderful work
Wow, what a beautiful piece, looks great. 😊
Thank you!
Beautiful piece once again Andy! Gotta build me a steady rest! Thanks for the inspiration and stay safe.
Thank you
A really beautiful piece Andy! The grain and rich color are fantastic!
Many thanks!
It’s a stunning piece!
Thankyou
That is absolutely gorgeous and I love the wood you used. ❤❤🎉🎉😊
Thanks
What a STUNNING piece great shape and fantastic grain patterns you dont half get some lovely bits of wood
Thanks
What a fab piece of wood, your hard work paid off its stunning .😊
That is a very creative use of a woodworm screw in a chuck on a surface that is not in perfect contact with the jaws of the chuck. I never thought to try that. The extended jam chuck that you used to detail the bottom of the vase was something that I need to try.
I like resin fills, but I really enjoy letting the natural grain and figuring being allowed to speak for themselves. Well done, sir 😁
Thanks 👍
im vry happy for u congratulations. the traveler has become one of my favs ever since the first video i watched. thank u for all that u have done and will continue to do
You can hear how hard the wood is by the sound of the turning chisel. Wonderful work, Andy👍. Best regards from Hans and Cheers 🍻🇦🇹.
Thanks
HAPPY NEW YEAR, Andy!!!
your talent & creativity never ceases to amaze me, I often refer to your pieces as conversation pieces as they inspire comments on their beauty & workmanship...from shaping to finish, this piece is another beautiful work of art, the finish brought the woodgrain alive!!!
Thankyou , Same to you!
Hi Andy what a marvellous piece of wood it has gorgeous grain and spalting, I totally love this wood. I'm glad you left this live edged vase natural and I like the foot on the vase, and I'm glad you did not add resin as it makes even more magnificent and unique. I really live all your hard work how many times did you have to sharpen your tools? The finished vase is magnificent and awesome I really love it. Thanks for another great video again. Amanda xx
Thanks Amanda .. I cant remember but it was a few ..
Favorite 2x channel on youtube
Beautiful as always, Andy
thanks!
Beautiful result as always. I love the look of that new tool. I assume it improves the stability of what's being turned. It looks like the wood workers answer to the flux capacitor.
Thanks .. yes, a steady rest
Beautiful piece of wood. Nicely turned. Thank you.
Thank you
I was impressed that you could create this vase with the way the wood looks, kinda rough to me.but your the master.great video as always.just keep doing what your doing.👍👍👍😎😎😎
Thank you very much!
Stunning! It's a piece of art! ❤
I bought a new phone awhile ago now and I’d lost all the UA-cam channels I used to watch. Getting older I couldn’t remember your name / UA-cam channel but thank goodness I found you again 😅 another beautiful creation by you ❤
Thanks .. glad you found the channel again 👍
Really amazing work, Andy! Really stunning piece!!! 😃
Happy new year! And stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thank you ..same to you
Boy you sure do detail finish work. I know what I’d do with that beautiful piece. I’d put one of those fake candle sticks down inside and watch a beautiful glow shine through the little crevices 😻 nice wrk Andy. ❤️
Thanks 👍
Very nice grain on the burl. really like the color.
Great job. Thank you.
Thank you very much!
Dude, you can make any old lump look special.
That is an absolute corker. I love your natural edge pieces. And you were right not to fill the cracks. The beauty of this piece comes from the grain and the way it springs into focus with a rich varnish. Anyone with good technical skills could do the colour pencil type of thing, but transforming a grotty old bit of timber into a thing of beauty is fine art. Do your wrists ache after working on very hard timber?
No, not really .. thank you
Well done Andy; they are not defects{inclusions} but, beauty marks!!!
Hi Andy. Happy New Year. You've got the steadiest carving hands I've ever seen. Perfect steady lines. Kinda Mesmerizing.
Thanks .. same to you
It might have been hard for you to turn but we love how it turned out!!! It's very beautiful ANdy and an excellent job turning it!!!
Thank you very much!
Beautiful piece
A peppy editing rhythm and much better "interior" lighting. The vase was really nice. I enjoyed the video.
Thanks
You saw the beauty emerge and you let it stand on it's own merit. Well done.
Thankyou
Wow, as always your work is just fantastic
Hours and hours of work to make such a beautiful peace
Thankyou
Very beautiful Andy.
That is exquisite! The shape works perfectly with the grain and the oil brings everything out. As they say these days, it "pops"!
It doesn't matter what you do: what piece of wood you have; what shape it starts and ends as; what level of simplicity or intricacy; what outcome you require; whether you use those swirling colours in the resin or "just" a single colour painted on it in certain places, or what finish you use (e.g. this beautiful oil), absolutely everything you do becomes a stunning work of art.
I don't know if you have a physical (rather than digital) gallery, but you should have one to show prospective buyers the works in their very best light. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with your online presentation, but you're relying on _us_ to have sufficiently good screens to see things close to how they really are!
I wish I'd learned about wood turning decades ago when I was physically capable of doing it. (I knew _of_ it, but as with so many things back then, doing woodwork at school as a girl would have required so many hoops to jump through and my mother wouldn't have been happy about it either! Dad, on the other hand, let me use his tools - including his jigsaw, drill, etc - from about 7 years-old 😅. I wasn't allowed to cook until I was about 10 because I couldn't see over the tops of the various pans. Safety first!)
Now various disabilities would stop me even trying. Arthritic hands don't let me knit or embroider anymore, and I used to do single thread embroidery with the smallest, sharpest needles - about as intricate as that gets - and other techniques such as pulled threads (making the first snip of thread was scary!). Given that, "shaving" the external shape of a vase would be impossible after about 30 seconds. Had I learned back then, at least I'd have had a few decades of being so creative! Well, _trying_ to be so creative 😂😂😂.
Still, you do inspire me to get my watercolour pencils out, now and then. Even my oil paints. So thank you for keeping that faint internal light of creativity switched on. I _genuinely_ mean every word of this and I am _genuinely_ grateful. Sorry for the essay, but again, thank you for sharing your awesome talent.
Thankyou .. I appreciate your kind words
Stunning Andy absolutely Stunning!
Cheers
A lovely piece. Your work is great.
There is one thing; you will have many non wood workers on your channel. Would you tell us the wood and type you are working on. The only wood I recognise is black walnut. a beautiful wood.
Thankyou .. I always put some info/details in the video description .. This was a piece of Oak Burl
What a way to start the year! Great piece!!
Thank you
Beech burl?
Just treated myself to a myford ml8. Been practicing over christmas. I now have a new found respect for the art you produce. Beautiful work! ❤❤

Thank you
you are an amazing woodturner
Amazing as always! All the best to you.
Thank you! You too!
Sehr sehr schön geworden, Andi!!! Mega!
Thanks 👍
Wait, wasn't that a rock?! Lol. I love the bottom section that looks like it's being turned and pulled like silly putty but it's petrified wood turned into a gorgeous masterpiece.
Another beautiful work, you are a master! I’d like to know the story behind what happened to your left thumb, ouch!
Thankyou .. I snapped it in snowboarding accident 👍
Stay safe, my friend! 🏂
Well done. Nice work Sir.
Happy New Year Andy. This one came out GREAT, would look nice with a tea light candle in it! !! !!!
Thanks .. same to you
Absolutely beautiful 😍😍
Thank you
Nice piece! I really enjoy the beginning parts of your projects when the higher camera speed makes it look like you're cutting air. I'm certain it doesn't feel that way or you wouldn't be wearing gloves. 🧤
Thank you very much!
Salutations à vous d'Algérie, un très merveilleux chef-d'œuvre
What beautiful character piece. I would put warm white LED inside so that it shines through and throws a pattern on the wall. Oak us also getzing darker with age. Itherefore wonder how it will look in a few years time. Happy New Year Andy.
Thanks .. same too you
Beautiful piece sir.
Thank you!
what kind of finish did you use on it?
I like that you decided not to use resin another beautiful piece ❤
Thanks
Very beautiful pice. Thanks for sharing

Very cool work Andy as usual
Thanks Sandie
Stunning
Thanks
Beautiful work. You brought the true beauty of the wood to life. I thought at first you were using a poly coating on it but then you wiped it down. What did you use?
Thankyou..I used Danish oil
absolutely beautiful
Another wonderful piece Andy! I'm getting closer to being able to buy one of your pieces. Very excited! This is one I would want. Do you do commissions?
Sometimes... you can send me a message via the website .. this piece is actually for sale on there at the moment, but I did alter the base a little
I love it. ❤❤❤❤
Just spectacular, Andy! Another amazing piece! Could I ask you which tools, specifically, are you using for hollowing? Are you holding them free-hand or in a particular hollowing "system" that is mounted on the lathe? Thank you!
Thank you.. I use tools from Simon Hope Woodturning, when hollowing, heavy duty carbide and a 10mm carbide for Freehand and the Simon hope hollowing jig for deeper work 👍
Gorgeous ❤
Thank you
What kinda wood Andy? Beautiful grain and the natural rim tips it all. Magnificent piece of art. On a side note what kind of lathe do you use?
Thanks .. it's Oak burl, bit of info in the description. My lathe is an Axminster AP406WL 👍
Love it 😊❤
