Exclusive Interview - Omar Rudberg & Edvin Ryding

- Q+ Magazine got the opportunity to sit down with Netflix's Young Royals Omar Rudberg and Edvin Ryding while they were in New York City for their appearance on the Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon.
We dived into some deep questions about the happenings of season 2 (including things we couldn't ask the last time we got to speak with them), and we dabbled in some mild season 3 discussion. They shared some of the cool things they have seen from fandom in response to the show, and Rudberg makes a confession about Young Royals UA-cam reactors.

It's so funny that you say that because there's an interview Edvin, the writer and director on the Nordic Netflix channel where Edvin explicitly states that he did not understand why Wille was doing the things he was doing S2 AT ALL and had to have long conversations with the writer to understand him 😭
@@persistenturge Note that a lot of time has passed. Edvin figured out Wille's situation, perspective, and intentions much better by this time. Having trouble understanding a character's actions is also normal.
I love that the actors want a smiley happy Wilmon more than anything lol
This show means the absolute world to me and they should be SO proud of the work that they are doing. This cast has some of the best young actors I've ever seen. I honestly hope to be able to work with some of them someday because the talent is absolutely through the roof and they all seem to be such genuinely good people. Thank you guys so much, from the bottom of my heart.
They def. developed their friendship more and more. I can clearly see that. They are more than co-stars. Edvin got mature more and how it suits him! And love they are very in sync with each other. They def communicate really well which Sara A. said about their immediate communication about their boundaries before their first intimate scene. The chemistry was just there from the start and it developed so much more through last year I can see that. Love them sm💕
These two actors portray this gay love story with incredible emotional sincerity. Absolutely beautiful people!
I would have needed this when I was young - now I am 69. But I am sure this will help a lot of people to stay true to themselves. Much ❤ from Germany, Omar & Edvin are amazing as well as individuals and as actors.

Cuties, they're such cool intelligent beautiful people and the show is so so good but especially because of the casting. I hope people watch the show in Swedish not that these guys wouldn't have done a great job dubbing but you miss something when you loose the Swedish, i mean its about the Swedish royal family pfft. I'm from Australia (which is hilariously pronounced in Swedish) and I didn't want to stop hearing the language which was fine because i also wanted to watch the show again. But now I'm learning it, point is don't be afraid of a few subtitles people, you can always watch it again when you know what was said.

Nobody else talking about how Edwin's mullet has disappeared
Edvin is preparing to play Wille again so he's slowly going back to Wille's Season 2 haircut. The mullet was for his role in the film "The Abyss" that he already finished filming.

I agree but I see Malte as Simon a good option too. Edvin and Malte have a great chemistry too and Malte, like Edvin, is a great actor (Edvin is better but Malte is good too).

@@KaiKailuv it’s at the beginning of season 2 episode 6! right before simon leaves wille to go confront marcus. the angle is a little weird so it’s hard to see it’s a forehead kiss but if you watch that scene and look out for it, it’s there :) hope this helps!
I love these humans so much, I have never felt love so fiercely for 2 people I don't even know. But they deserve the world. They're out here changing lives and they understand that role and most importantly, they value the hell out of it. The love they give back to fans makes me cry. I hope they succeed in every area of life forever. Friends Best.

I recently discovered that I am bisexual and not a lesbian so I had to re come out to my family. Both my parents and sibling said terrible things to me. They were fine when I said I was gay but ig they're not okay with me being bi. Wilhelm being unlabeled in young royals gives me hope. It's really hard to exist as a teenager in general but maybe at least people will respect us growing a bit more if we have representation.
Oh sweetie! You really don't have to put ANY label on yourself other than "ME". And you certainly don't "have" to come out to anyone. I'm so sorry your parents weren't/aren't ok with who you are. Being bi is hard. Literally everybody will have an opinion about who/what you "really" are. You don't owe any of them the courtesy of taking any notice of it. X

@@athenare313 no he used to, he is sometimes quicker with answers and obviously loves to talk, discuss and disect things. Omar is quite the opposite shy and at times timid. Nowadays Edvin either asks if he can take the question or he waits until Omar articulates what he thinks. They are constantly checking on each other. Its beautiful to watch.
@@Svtmme73 there's a 5 yr age gap and edvin is younger, it makes sense with the differences in energy levels at that time. Now he's 19 and has obvs matured a bit since season 1 era, i mean he even grew a couple inches lmao
@@athenare313 he did, if you watch for instance the interview where they watch clips. He never meant to be disrespectful, but one can clearly see now that he bahaves different in interviews with Omar. They always had an incredible dynamic. He saw that he could seem disrespectful and he changed. That just shows he is able to unlearn bad habits. If you listen to his Sommerprat he talks about a lot of things and how he views himself.
4:29 Omar is right. We don't know if Simon Will be happy being prince as well or a king in a future. But I think he will be a good one. In the first episode of S1 Simon was talking about politics and economic issues in class.
Simon cannot be king, he is not of bloodline. If he marries Wilhelm in the future, he will be titled as Prince Consort

LOVE the analysis on Sara and their differing perspectives. I suspect there's also a layer where Simon is angry at himself for having been less close with Sara and not seeing what was happening.

You more than once proved that you love and know this little Swedish show and I so appreciate this. Edvin and Omar truly shine when they are given the opportunity to dig deeper into the storyline and their characters and I could watch them for hours analyzing and discussing things. Their English is amazing. Almost zero accent. Smart and talented, both of them.
I watched the entire series (to date) with the Swedish language soundtrack, so it's wild to hear them speaking English. Edvin, in particular, seems to have an almost American accent and style of speaking! LOL. Great sit-down with these talented guys. :)
This is the only series I can listen to dubbed in English since their wording and cadence are as natural as a native English speaker. I generally cannot tolerate a show that’s been dubbed into a non-native language. It feels unnatural 99% of the time. It’s easier for to read subtitles than to listen to a show or movie in the “wrong” language.

It’s because this is an interview for the hardcore fans with fan questions. Jimmy Fallon was an introduction of them and the show to the US audience who has never heard of them in hope that it builds the fandom and ratings for YR. Both are great but for totally different reasons.

Same. 10:43 I think S2E4-6 are my favorites. E4 still shows so much of the pain that Simon and Wilhelm are going through from not being together and having so many obstacles in their way, then by the end, there is hope for Wilmon!

the thing that makes this show different then a show like HeartStopper is that the issue isnt them finding out they are gay for eachother but like everything around them, it has never been like "i dont wanna be gay, im not gay" but rather "I am gay and you all have to deal with it bc im not changig" like yk? they arent afriad to be gay but rather its just somethingf else yk, and its nice to see that :>

I strongly believe they are pretty aware of what's going on in the fandom and how people feel about certain things. So yes, I noticed the change of using the swedish pronunciation of Simon too. And I love them for doing so! 💜❤️💯
