About Trailmakers:
In the toughest motoring expedition in the universe, you and your friends will build your own vehicles to cross a dangerous wasteland. Explore, crash horribly, use your wits to build a better rig, and get as far as you can with whatever spare parts you find on your way.
Welcome to the Ultimate Expedition!
Journey over grueling mountains, hazardous swamps, and bone-dry deserts on a distant world far from civilization - it is just you, your fellow adventurers and the amazing, jet-powered hover-buggy you built yourself. Explore, crash your vehicle, build a better one, and get as far as you can with whatever spare parts you find along your way.
Trailmakers is about building very awesome vehicles and machines, but you don’t need an engineering degree to get started. The intuitive builder will get you going in no time. Everything you build is made from physical building blocks. Each block has unique features like shape, weight and functionality. They can be broken off, refitted and used to build something new. Individually the blocks are fairly simple, but combined the possibilities are endless.
Expedition Mode is the challenging campaign mode of Trailmakers. You are competing in an off-world rally expedition with only a few building blocks to get you started. You must build, tinker with and rebuild your machine to progress. Journey through a big world, overcome deep gorges, angry wildlife and dangerous weather to progress and find new parts that will juice up your machine. The world in Expedition Mode will test your survival skills and ingenuity.
Sandbox Mode is where you want to head for an unrestricted, sandbox, vehicle-building experience. Here you can build anything you can dream of, and play around with it in the world of Trailmakers. It is a great place to test out crazy machines, and experiment with the physics engine. With tons of different blocks, hinges, thrusters and interactive vehicle parts - the skybox is the limit.
Trailmakers is even more fun if you play it with other people. Build cool vehicles and compete in mini-game modes with your friends or other Trailmakers online. Build a helicopter, send it to your friend, and shoot them out of the sky. Put two seats on a tank, and let your friend control the turret. As we get further in Early Access development Expedition Mode will also be adapted to multiplayer.

Kosmo: Let's break the sound barrier with these new large turbojets!
40 minutes later...
ScrapMan: Let's break the sound barrier with these new inflatable balloons!
If you are serious, keep in mind that Scrap Man got his idea much more time before kosmos video and he originally had the idea to do a successful "sonic boom" series in trailmakers.
@@artiarora2883 no, it's a joke about how kosmo tries to break the sound barrier with a reasonable source of propulsion, while scrapman does it with litteral balloons
@@artiarora2883 dude they are friends relax lol
He didn't say either of them stole the idea... he simply made a comparison based on the absurdity of USING BALLOONS....
It appears as though scrapman has definately "one-upped" kosmo. Whether intentionally or not. 😂
@@artiarora2883I don’t think he was accusing him of copying
Scrapman knew immediately what everyone wanted to see since the new update
totally
No we wanted to see more episodes of the campaign
@@oversecus833 that’s fair
@@oversecus833 yes that’s what i want to see!
Not this...
Scrapman: Sees any possible form of movement
Scrapman five minutes later: *So I've managed to break the sound barrier agai-*
of mechanical force*
for the 11 balloons you could try with those triangular wedge blocks you said wouldnt work. in reality you could make the edges of the shape stick out from the side still reducing weight and with the same aerodynamics without the spin
Or use 3x3 triangular wedges
Even though it is lighter if it has a larger surface area then it would have more drag. Drag is independent of the weight of the block.
I was wondering that too. Maybe by the game's mechanic increasing 1 more block of sectional area will harm more than it helps with the weight reduction, no matter how good that 1 block's aerodynamic is, but it's worth a try.
But it wont attach
What Conor and kruth said. Extremely good aerodynamics are still worse than no drag at all. Increasing the profile--even with extremely aerodynamic pieces--will slow it down more than the lighter weight will speed it up. Of course, in this setting, this is only a well-informed hypothesis. A good scientist would try it anyway.
Use those odd shaped aerodynamic blocks, just don't make a corkscrew effect by creating rotational symmetry. You need to make it asymmetrical to reduce any rotational effect.
i had same thought if i had early access....
that would make it flip sideways, you can try the same thing now just without balloons
@@magica3526 nah make the middle 2 angle to the left and the outer 2 angle to the right
make it symmetrical, mirror symmetry that is.
@@mattzuma77 that would work, but that's not asymetrical
If we make the assumption that there is water deep enough in trailmakers and that these balloons actually give more lift force underwater like a real balloon would, there is a non-zero chance that the additional lift force will overcome the additional drag caused by being in a fender fluid, meaning there’s a chance for 11 or less balloons. Can’t find out until tmr tho
I think you would need to fix the center of gravity so it is below the center of lift if you want to get down to 11 balloons. Yes, that does add more weight and yes, the tailfin helped with stability, but there was still a little bit of a tilt as you went up. You were so long that the tilt had a larger effect on your aerodynamics than normal. The better aerodynamics should outweigh the extra weight you had to add.
I was a bit tired when I wrote this & the statement is false...
Shouldn't moving the seat into the middle of the balloons do the trick? That way there would be minimal weight-gain for the creation.
@@RealPanzer999 this would make it worse as then even more of the mass of the creation is at or above the center thus making it more prone to tilt
@@wolffang-vz2ty I'm an idiot... XD was too tired when I wrote that.
The tilt was because he had air control enabled. He removed the tailfin, and then disabled air control to get rid of the tilt
@@garretbernard8174 it still tilted until the very end, so yes it helped but no it was not gone.
this was great. You're doing a great job Scrapman, we love your videos.
Already soo good
Hi there.
You were able to use the flat lights at 90 deg as substitute for a 4x1 wedge.
And yeah: lights have better aero at 90 deg than square.
You’ve broken the sound barrier with the inflatable balloons, now if it’s possible, try breaking the sound barrier with the party balloons
Just like aircraft wings, having aerodynamic shapes facing opposite the direction of travel also reduces drag (diffusion), love your vids.
This does not usually make a big difference, but it does make a difference, and he only needs to go a little faster. It would also lower the center of gravity and decrease the tilt, which I think is his biggest problem. I am 100% behind this idea.
was enjoying the solo thing from yesterday, hope you continue
immediately another good video from you,Scrapman!
I want to watch Scrpman's other videos on the Trailmakers expansion but I also don't want to see the new campaign cause I'm really excited for it. lol Thanks for this video Scrapman!!!
When scrapman see a new way to fly he will use it as a sonic boom test
i actually just got trailmakers yesterday, your the one that inspired me to get it ^^
You forgot about the aerodynamics on the trailing edges!
Id guess about 12, the 105 would be multiplied by 12 or more with the proper aerodynamics
The balloons are in the balance section because the description for it says that it also includes bouyant things/bouancy controllers. And balloons, as you may (now) guess, are (positively) bouyant in air, and even more so in denser mediums like water. Too little(or too much) density in a medium and it will go _POP_ because the pressure differences are too great.
Trailmakers: .*makes new movement item*
Scrapman: "guess the sound barrier's gone"
I love waking up for school every morning and watching these videos you post as I wake up
Scrapman always asking the hard hitting questions
Also congrats on 800k!!!
Here's a challenge:
Break the sound barrier with party balloons
Scrapman puts more thought and planning into a supersonic balloon than I put into my own life
I thought it would take 8 balloons...turns out I was quite wrong. Always surprised at how much of a difference aerodynamics do, especially wedges
#wedgegang
Me who guessed 18
Lol I actually guessed 12
I’m pretty sure that adding aerodynamics to the bottom of the craft would make it faster. I’ve tested this before and it seems to work. This is how it works in real life too because the bottom would create a vacuum that sucks you backwards.
The arc of those balloons with the heavy tip was crazy. I’d love to see if you could make a large missile design based on that.
Love the update, plz do more Trailmakers Multiplayer Mondays 😉
Yessireee!!!
Mondays are for Scrap Mechanic: Scrap Mechanic Monday
Trailmakers Tuesday?
Now that you've found how many balloons it takes to break the sound barrier, maybe you can find out who is the best at survival mode?
Day 137 of asking for a Multiplayer Monday in survival mode where everyone starts at the crashed ship with a craftbot in the mechanic station. Everyone has 30 minutes to build a vehicle from scratch, gathering their own materials. No glitches, thrusters allowed, after which everyone meets up and races their builds
I got my prediction RIGHT no joke and can you try to break the sound barrier with the party balloons? Love your content.😊
?
Some could call it a sonic BALLOON!
Get it? Sonic boom, sonic balloon…
I’ll show myself out now.
Scrapman, your idea of using balloons to break the sound barrier going up is a good idea and a good test to make. But instead of breaking the sound barrier up, couldn't you have the balloon carry you upward and then use gravity to break the sound barrier downward?
Great job scrapman keep the energy
So from the spinning we see that, although the aerodynamic profile of a single block is independent of blocks around it, the direction of the drag force on each block is affected by the slope of the block. Maybe you could rotate some of the other nose wedges to counter the spin, or even the tilt.
so genuinely I had guessed twelve. though I wasn't sure how you were going to do it. NOICE!
So we’ve basically done every type of thrust to create a sonic boom (excluding the newest ones), but when are we going to find the most efficient way to break a sonic boom? Sonic boomolympics? I suppose you can have different efficiency categories like most weight efficient, power core efficient, size efficient etc.
Remember your trailing edge aerodynamics Scrapman! Just because the display only shows leading edge doesn't mean it doesn't count. I gotta wait til tomarrow to check it out myself don't I?
Your jokes are always terribly good 😅
i love your vidss!!!!!
Try playing around with the small armor plate blocks. When placed on their side, they provide green aerodynamics _almost_ identical to the 4x1 wedge blocks (I think they're very slightly less efficient) and can sometimes fit into weird configurations where you only need to cover a very small area (or fill in hollow areas without adding a bunch of weight)
Example (block, plate, aerodynamics):
[ ] _
I was hoping he realizes that the 4 by 4 wedges have attachment points on the side and so he could get rid of the small connectors by rotating the 4 by ones to attach to each other on the outside but keep the 4 by 4s the same hope that made sense
you could use the diving ball to counter teh center of mass issue you had with the jet seat but at the cost of more weight
The 11 balloon configuration with spoilers for alignment at the bottom, the one under the seat offset so that it's on the seat and the top spoiler. Or they could go on the first balloon
hi scrap man love ur vids ur a huge rolemodel to me ur amazing
I like how you said that the balloons where 12 times weaker than what it takes to break the sound barrier and then you guess 11
The propulsion yab is for pieces that pushes blocks while the balance is, of course, to balance. The baloon is like the controlable floating device(they both make you moove but they domt propulse you as a jet engine would)
Someone should tell Scrapman that we love him
true
Well you just did ;)
@@GummieI hope he sees it
This video made me sing 99 red balloons in my head continuously.
I really enjoy screaming at the screen even though I know Scrapman will eventually try the thing I'm screaming xD
Now please try the same with the Party Balloons.
-Start of the video-
ScrapMan: “Eleven balloons, with really really good aerodynamics”
Me: “I’ll one up your guess then, twelve”
-ScrapMan adds eleven balloons-
It doesn’t work, he’s not happy that it doesn’t work.
-ScrapMan adds twelve balloons-
Me: “LESSGO, I actually got it correct for once!” I shouted this out in front of my family at breakfast time.
You can try putting a helicopter engine underneaf to spin your venichle really fast, this helps with the stability problems
I did guess 12 balloons, but was sweating when I saw you start to try to bring it back down to 11.
i was on the channel and i was like 3 2 1 refresh and theres a new video i was wating so much
OMG THANKS SO MUCH!
this is super cool!
also Thanks so much for the shout out!
so does this inflatable balloon replace the submarine inflatable piece? seems to me you could make a pretty sweet dual purpose flying sub if it does in fact work that way???
Me rubbing my hands and grinning, as scrapman man is putting on the chirpo passager seat he can't get in 😂
What if you set balloons to be maximally expanded from begining, so you don't gradually increase speed, but instead zoom right up there
I guessed 12, and I was right. You said it yourself when you put one balloon on; you said you would need 12 times more power
New video already? NICE
I so somany new parts this video. Update gonna be great. Hopefully they won't be locked by the dlc
NO WAY, I ACTUALLY GUESSED 12!!! anyways, great video scrapman excited for more of the DLC
Nailed the prediction. 12. Also was the thing flipping bc the top was heavier than the bottom? Why not throw on a weight on the bottom
Hey scrapman i think u should make a airship that moves as u are not sitting so you can fly in survival easily
you could try replacing the wedges with the new airplane cockpit
Watching another video I noticed that in the balloon settings there are both the inflation speed but also another gas mixture parameter and I was wondering if it would change the buoyancy of the balloon. and thus change the rate of climb.
Is there a driving seat that you could use to replace part of the nose cone and the current go-cart seat for a net loss of weight? thinking of the Diving Bell or the Space Ship Cockpit. but I don't have the game so I can't actually experiment with aerodynamics or weights myself. Just an idea I had.
One Idea could be to get rid of the connector pieces. You could just rotate the outer air dynamic pieces.
,,Its still in the 1180s" bro just time travelled 840 years
It’s ok Scrapman. You were one over while I was 38 over lol
11:10
With all respect, less sound barriers, more campain
you guys need to build the thumbnail it is really good
You could try using the space ship seat which is fully centered and would fix the tilting issue because it is 50 kg. Also you could try the operator seat which weighs the same as the go-cart seat and is fully centered. I don’t know if either of these will work but I think it would be worth a try.
WOOO BAGUETTE EPISODE
Me trying to fall asleep:
This video: just 5 more minutes
Wow amazing vid! I guessed
11 too so close!!!
You will need as many balloons as there were in the movie UP
Why? Don't question me!
because there is going to be tonnes of metal from the aerodynamics to the seat and the cages that surround the balloons
Break soundbarrier? Yes.
Balloon amount? I'll say 8, with aero parts.
Now you have to use the party balloons to break the sound barrier
In your previous video, there was a "gas mixture" setting on the balloon. Could that have an effect?
Also my guess was 25 (or not possible). I think I was a little bit off.
I was guessing around there as well lol
Gas mixture was at 1.00 (see 14:33). But maybe you could lower the gas mixture of the bottom most balloon to lift your center of lift.
is this the new battle of the moon between you, kosmo and kAN? :D
ev1 posting now vids like this haha.
I'm loving your beard Mr metalhead.
Maybe put the pilot seat between the balloons? Like 6 on top and 5 on the bottom maybe? To fix center of mass with no extra mass
Try moving the seat lower. Yes it will add weight but it will also lower the center of mass, therefore you don't tip and can go slightly faster.
The spoilers could have actually worked, you would just have to attach them by pushing the one spoiler on the “bottom” of the seat up one.
Staggering the spoilers like that would balance the forces, but not the rotational moments. The vehicle would act like a lever; the spoiler farthest from the center of mass would have a greater effect on the rotation of the vehicle, causing it to tilt. However, this effect would be much lesser than Scrapman's test with just one spoiler.
you could try using shield blocks instead of wedges. i noticed that shield blocks are very aerodynamic and function as normal solid blocks to not create air pockets.
That front i mean that top of the aircraft can reduce weight, delete the middle rows of wedges and rotate the remaining two rows so they cover whole baloon.
I Think you should have added aerodynamics to the back too
It would have been enough
He’s doing it again
also you could have added the spoilers to the outside of the bottome baloons to keep it stable with less weight
I started up trailmakers imedenetly to try to break it with 11, only to forget that i dont have early access, but what i was going to tro to do was make the wedges on the front from 4-1 to2-1 or posibly 1-2
So are you going to break the sound barrier using the new rocket thrusters and if not are you going to do it using ant of those new weapons such as the smart cannon or the minigun?
Yoooo another upload
I calculated that 12 would work perfectly.
Cant wait!
Instead of using a logic gate, you could just set the initial inflation of the balloons to 100
Next up: Sonic Boom on foot, only sneakers allowed. ;)
Great, now do it with party ballons
you can change the design by changing the paddle into a 2 spoilers on the left and right of the seat
My prediction was 12, I was guessing most of the diminishing returns was from aero and you got 100ish with one so kind of oversimplistic logic that happened to be right lol
