    We sat in silence.
    I spoke of leaving.
And from the floor, I tried to crawl away
with my arms all but succeeding.
I'll water your grave and watch it grow
into a bed of lies you sewed in life
living long after you are gone.
All in all, we're dust and bone
so we'll dig our graves before we're old enough to
    lie in them.
We'll spread our ash amongst the dirt
to soil the seed that breeds the earth
    so we can live again.
So wait for me to bloom. x2
    Stay.
We're a garden fed from the blood
    left in your veins
So stay with me or I'll shrivel and dry out.
    Wait for me to bloom.
    Stay.
We're a garden fed from the blood
    left in your veins
So stay with me or I'll shrivel and dry out.
    Stay.Stay. Stay.

I saw these guys live last year, and this video does them no justice.
Actually being there and experiencing everything all at once is surreal. Tanner's voice is bone rattling, and I'm extremely happy that we've held a conversation.
These guys are amazing, and some of the sweetest bunch you'll ever meet.

@ Ena Mullen ..... I, too, had the Pleasure of speaking with Tanner in 2011 when they opened for Circa Survive. He is like this sweet looking CHERUB but he has SUCH STRENGTH of EMOTION behind that voice. It's incredible to witness that come out of him on stage. Can't Wait until I get to see them again ..... Already seen them 6 times, I think 🤔❓ Mostly on tour with THRICE

Anecdote Alert. I apologize in advance.
The first time I had ever heard of O'brother was when they were featured in the "Stunts" video that Manchester Orchestra put on their UA-cam Channel. My (still apparent) infatuation with the former band lead me to do some research into O'Brother. I found out that they were signed to Manchester's label, favorite gentleman, and my immediate thought was something like: "Well if Andy Hull likes them, so will I." Little did I know, when I clicked on this very thumbnail back in 2013, that this band would become much more to me than my previous conjecture would have suggested. Much of the reason for that was this exact song and this exact performance. This was the first O'Bro song I ever heard, and this was the first version of that song I ever heard. It quickly became not only my favorite song by the band, but of all time, and has remained such for the past four years. The masterful building of tension and suspense with the effectively layered guitar work, coupled with a turmoil and a distress that is uncommon, even in this style of music sometimes, was such a rare find to me, and it is a composition I can analytically and emotionally immerse myself in. This single song has influenced the way I listen to music as well the way I write music to a degree that I have difficulty fully explaining.
I've seen them live three times, each for a very different set of bands. I have seen them headline a show locally. They played Ascension that night, but due to my young age (and perturbed parents) I had to leave early, right before they played this exact song. I vividly remember recognizing Anton (the bassist) before the show began at the merch table, and going up to talk to him. Ascension was still on the brain at this point and I told him, with utter honesty that the song was "my favorite song right now". Had I only known how long that very phenomena would have lasted. I saw them again later that year, opening for Manchester Orchestra. In support of a new album, they did not play Ascension, but I was still just as impressed with their live show as the first time I saw them. And sure enough, Anton manned the merchandise table at that show as well. I again, had another chat with him. Last Tuesday, I saw Dillinger Escape Plan on their final tour, and was ecstatic to learn O'brother was opening. When I walked into the venue, sure enough, Anton was chillin' at the merch table once again. I was quick to start another brief conversation with him before walking into the main staging area. I complimented him and the band on their versatility, in that they can play shows with almost any rock artist and still fit. They have a style that is truly their own with pleasant idiosyncrasies that make their music both interesting and accessible. That night, they played a great set, as usual, pulling mainly from their albums Endless Light and Garden Window (which turned five years old that day). During their sound check, their drummer played the linear groove from "Ascension" (2:45) and I couldn't help but smile. That was partially how I remembered this video. It all came full circle. Point being, it's funny how one song or one performance or one video can shape one's interest so much over time. Ascension was that song for me.

In the top right above the first row of sessions there are search filters for finding bands via Genre. or by State.
O'Brother is from Atlanta so filter Audiotree sessions from Georgia. Hope that helps !!

    • @ashtonyoung
      @ashtonyoung 8 років тому

+PatFreakinRick From what I'm getting at, I think he's saying male singers that try to sound manly when they sing which sometimes hinders the music. These dude has a manly yell/sing thing when the chorus opens up, but it really works for them.
I feel the same way about screamo vocals. I don't love metal and a lot of times the screaming sounds really low and manly or something, but one band I'm very fond of called Exotic Animal Petting Zoo has vocals that just focus on raw emotion and aren't obscure noises
