"Very sweet, pretty girl. Now dead."
    Classic Roth

"Nor would I have written home about it " *chuckles*

And Roth's remark on those "being the days" leaves out an important and troubling fact: half as many 14 year old Americans today have sexual experience than those in year 2000. People complain about "sexualization" of culture, but the physical reality shows an astonishing rate of transformation toward sterility in the past two decades.

People are always amazed that Philip Roth wasn't some pervert. Almost as if they assumed Dostoevsky was a serial killer. It's called imagination, people . . .

Roth is the definition of an artist. People are always assuming he's some perverted philanderer/Don Juan figure, when really, in his fiction he was just using his . . . wait for it . . . imagination. . . .

Yeah but it’s notable that he said that they “wrestled” but he never raped anyone, it was out of the question. Obviously he respected women.

He reminds me of Eric idle in a way. What an amazing human being and communicator

Hold the personal attacks. I always separate the artist from the person. Do you ever listen to Michael Jackson's music, or appreciate a Caravaggio painting? And Roth never molested or killed anybody. For those who are open to his work, even if you've read some but perhaps only the best known works, I'd recommend Operation Shylock as a fantastic story and Sabbath's Theatre for a terrific character study.

An amazing novelist - Love the fact he paid homage to his hometown Newark in a lot of his work and left his work and part of his fortune to Newark Public Library. RIP ❤❤ one of New Jersey’s finest 🥰🌹🥀🤍🕯🕊🕊🤍

I read that during childhood, people are sexual inside from the womb til the age of about four or five, when they begin to form long term memories. At some point they are smacked, or punished, or threatened when they are discovered playing with themselves such that sexuality effectively stops. It's forgotten about until rediscovery much later in life. What monstrous things people do to children.

As close to mediocrity in "literature" as you can get.
