I watched the first season when it first came out. Then when season 2 started i was living somewhere else that didn't have HBO. Just finished the series a few weeks ago. It's up there with "The wire" as my favorite show.
@@GABRIELA-ACEVEDO. I started with Breaking Bad when it aired , then The Walking Dead when it aired , then The Wire even tho it was older , then Sons Of Anarchy (definitely the darkest of all these shows by far & the most ruthless) & then finally Boardwalk Empire & Boardwalk is the one I enjoy watching over & over the most but I go back to all those classic shows regardless , this tho just happens to be the one I rewatch the most❤
These two were my favorites, mostly because they had really cool character progress and you get to see them rise to the top. And when they do, they're ruthless and cunning. Edit: grammar
I remember watching the series progress & cheering for Luciano/Lansky/Siegel as the "underdogs" & then hating how ruthless they were at series end. You know the show does a great job when they pick the right times to be "descriptive" & at other times...."vague." The vagueness results in the audience performing Google searches on AR, Lansky, Luciano, etc. I only wish Boardwalk did more with O'Bannion, George Remus, and Frankie Yale since my research indicates those guys had VERY interesting lives...
I agree, the casting was fantastic. The actors and the writers absolutely nailed their personalities and chemistry just how I imagined them to be through what history has told us. Even though you knew Lucky would take over at the end, watching his rise was incredible. Such an underrated TV show.
Interesting how once Rothstein cut ties with Luciano, his ultimate downfall began. By season 4, Rothstein had been squeezed out of the heroin business by the Italians. But Luciano stayed partnered with Meyer and eventually became the Godfather of the Italian mafia. An Italian and Jewish partnership. Probably the best analogy for the expression '2 head are better than 1.'
True and hard gangsters in our history books and thankfully for this show they are now LEGENDS of our times. "..it was my pleasure doing business with you and now I must say farewell and get back to business.."
Because it really is his money. Don't you remember? There's a scene where Lucky and Joe are speaking Italian and playing something similar to horseshoes in a little sand pit behind his restaurant in Little Italy one afternoon, and Meyer has to stay back away from him on the sidewalk because Joe doesn't want to do business with Jews. Joe Masseria turns down Lucky and Meyer's offer to join them in the heroin trade in Italian, and Lucky snaps back, "Don't be disrespectful! If you're gonna say no, say it in English so my partner here can understand you." Joe mumbles something about "Christkillers as trustworthy partners..." or whatever and he eventually allows Meyer to approach him. Joe sits down at a little table and they finally wear down Joe and get him to join them in the heroin trade for $100,000. In addition to the profits Joe makes from it for his $100,000 investment, Meyer and Lucky warn him Nucky is going to make a move on Joe soon, and that they'll give Joe information on Nucky and Arnold Rothstein's business dealings together now that Nucky has is only selling liquor to Arnold Rothstein alone. It took place during the war in Tabor Heights between Nucky and Gyp Rosetti. Instead of trying to resolve the war by finding additional avenues for the illegal alcohol trade to continue as they promised, Meyer and Lucky are secretly trying to use the war as an opportunity to supplant bootlegging with narcotics. To them, this is the perfect opportunity to get people hooked on heroin and have them forget about liquor entirely. Unfortunately for them, the timing just wasn't right. The market wasn't ready for it.
I've watch thise scene many times but still never understood what was going on. So basically to stay out of jail Lucky gave the 2 cops working for Rothstein all the heroin. But the Heroin was paid for by Masseria which means Lucky and Meyer are the ones qho still owe Masseria although Rothstein now owns the drugs.
For those still watching: Luciano and Lansky needed money to pay for a huge shipment of drugs. The heroin Luciano was trying to sell was paid for by Masseria, so both Meyer and Luciano owed him. The heroin wasn't selling well (because of the gang war between Nucky and Rosetti) and Luciano was getting scared (Masseria still wants the money back plus the cut from the profits) so he tried to force a risky deal with strangers. Turns out Rothstein played all of them. He backstabbed Meyer and Luciano so he could get an edge over Masseria (he used the drugs to entice Masseria into pulling support from Gyp Rosetti, in exchange for Nucky Thompson giving up his distillery so he could become the biggest bootlegger in the country). At the end Nucky wins anyway (he ordered the hit on Gyp Rosetti, blindsided Masseria and killed a lot of his men and got the distillery shut down).
That’s not what it means, he says “Yes” as a question forcing Luciano to respond which makes him realise the severity of the situation that if he carries on they will both be killed.
Lucky and Lansky. You don’t get one without the other. Hands down the absolute best portrayal of the two men. 💯💯💯
Love Nucky Thompson, but i love the scenes with AR, Meyer, Lucky, and Capone the most from the whole series. Also Chalky and Richard.
This guy that played Lucky was brilliant. He even looks like Charles.
My biggest regret was sleeping on this show for a decade.
Me too I’m going to start watching today.

Me too never knew how great it was.
I just love Vincent Piazza and Michael Stuhlbarg. Perfection! 🤍
You gotta love the grit in that guys voice in anger.
AR and Mr. Masseria made a mistake letting them both go. All they did was light a fire to begin the Commission.
Best rendition of Lucky ive ever seen
"You can always file a complaint to the department"
Theyre always seem to be in someones pocket

Many actors were, that’s what made this such a kickass show for so long
Pat Gogan just watched him on Godfather of Harlem
Masseria's suits were exquisite
Nd he's actually from the the same place Joe Masseria is from. Menfi, Italy
Í was checking history and turns out that the biggest Gangster of that age was Luciano. And i belive he woulndnt become that without mayer
Meyer definitely boosted him to the top
And vice versa
And don’t forget about it old bugzy eyy hoo I’m the muscle ey hoooo
Lepke!

These 2 were a hell of a team
Why isn't Vincent Piazza a superstar? He is brilliant as Lucky. A great actor.

I don't think he wants to be a superstar. He does a lot of stage work. Gets good parts in movies and tv when he wants to.
DJPK You crack me up lmao. What a twit Trinder was.
Was great in the Four Seasons
They really couldn’t have casted anyone better than the men they had play Lucky and Meyer!

In the boardwalk empire universe....I believe this is where AR signed his own death warrant with Luciano
