    From David A. Wood: The actor that played Giuseppe "Joe the Boss" Masseria on the series "Boardwalk Empire" was much physically appealing than the real Masseria ever was as the real guy was short, sloppy, and portly. About the only thing the actor that portrayed Masseria and the genuine Masseria had in common was the fact that they both mutually conveyed an ominous sense of mortal intimidation.

      It was a myth that Masseria was a slob. His autopsy indicated he was dressed to kill (what people nowadays would call a top “drip”) and had only minimal food content, which went against the notion that he always gorged on a lot of food whenever he ate.

    The guy who plays Charlie Lucky plays it so well. A hot head and irrational in season one and slowly morphs into the cold and cunning "Luciano" from the history books by season 6. Then again the acting is phenomenal in the entire show. Show deserves more respect but I think it will end up with another wave of watchers in the next decade or so.

    Ivo Nandi was a brilliant scene-stealer in a series chockfull of phenomenal actors giving some career-level turns. One of the saddest things about "Boardwalk" not getting the extra 2-3 seasons it deserved to finish out the saga is that we didn't really get to see more of the escalations around Joe the Boss.

    One of the most fascinating mafia reveals was that Al Capone was a capo for Joe The Boss this entire time.

    • @ΑλέξανδροςΓκίνης-ο9σ
      @ΑλέξανδροςΓκίνης-ο9σ 10 місяців тому +16

      Exactly. The Boss had Capone made in 1928, after Al arranged the death of Frankie Yale for him. Yale was also a caporegime under Joe the Boss, but after all these years, he betrayed his Godfather, switching sides to Salvatore D'Aquila (Capo dei Capi in name ONLY, already from the mid 20s, the Boss had overpowered him, but he still had the title). Al and Yale had their own rivalry at the time, so Masseria used him as a smockscreen, to get rid of Yale without altering D'Aquila, whom he had whacked a few months later. Capone was already paying tributes to the Boss, for had him protected from Joe Aiello's allies. When Capone was made a capodecina (the Boss had gave him the authority to made himself, ten soldiers), and after he and Aiello went into rivalry, Masseria authorised Capone to have Aiello whacked (all this took place, before the official Castellammarese War, broken out in 1930)!!!
