How to get the "Peace Sells" GUITAR TONE - Dave Mustaine (Megadeth) - Bias Amp & Bias FX

- Using Bias Amp 2 and Bias FX, I show how to accurately get the guitar sound from Dave Mustaine and Chris Poland (Megadeth) on the "Peace Sells... But Who's Buying" album.
IMPORTANT 2023 UPDATE - Some users have reported they can't find my presets when searching Bias FX 2. This seems to be a glitch in their search system. To solve the issue, type in the search field "DMO -" (yes, just DMO followed by a space and hyphen) and choose "Sort by Popularity" in the drop-down beside the search field. You should see all of my presets.
Please note many users have taken my presets and created their own versions with similar names. To make sure you are downloading my original presets, my user name in Bias FX 2 is "Dan Oliv". Also, my original presets have a lot more downloads than the non-original versions.

BIAS FX 2 UPDATE - Positive Grid requires that you have Bias FX 2 to be able to download new presets. If you use the tone cloud of Bias FX 1, you won't find the preset in the search results.
Here's the list of the gear I'm using:
. Bias Amp 2 and Bias FX guitar modeling software - metal distortion and Mesa Boogie Mark IIc+ amp simulation with tone matching feature
. Line 6 UX-1 audio interface
. Reaper Digital Audio Workstation
. iMac with El Capitain OS
. B.C. Rich Bich guitar with Kahler 2300 tremolo and DiMarzio pickups

This was my dream tone back when I was a teenager starting out on guitar! Nice! I remember reading the liner notes where they wrote the gear they used. It said they used JCM800s. I looked it up and couldn't believe the cost! lmao

Bro, I'm absolutly stunned!! This is IT! I've heard a lot of attempts on UA-cam to nail this particular tone off the "Peace Sells" album and, dude, you've got it perfect. I can't believe it! Thanks for creating it and for all the other videos on "tone creation" you've made. I feel like a kid in a candy shop with all these killer classic tone and always seemed so "untainable" by us mere mortal guitar chilidren, but now within reach. LOL! Kudos to you man!

Its probably really close to if not the exact same tone as this one. The only difference with this album is that the production is a million times better.

Please create the tone from the album "Diary of a Madman", especially the tone Randy had on "Flying High Again". It's truly metal at it's best. Also, the tone off the first Testament album "The Legacy (1987)" would a great addition.

99% correct I’d say! I don’t know all the terms but the album recording sounds like a deeper tone if you get me. Not as in lower tuning but the tone sounds deeper. Well done though!

@@gesemdicapt6401 Adam is right, actually. The isolated guitar, drum, bass and vocal tracks from Peace Sells are available here on youtube.. Have a listen at the Guitar tracks (no bass) and you'll know what he means by _deeper_ .
zornrl it’s David’s amazing bass it’s also like 430/435 or so tuning instead of 440hz

@@zorn1745 Honestly I wish I could say I did. I want to say that the deeper aspect of the tone is probably achieved with the help of a Marshall tube amp cranked up. With that, theres no need for all the tweaking and adjusting to find the right amount of gain/drive without saturating your tone and ruining it.
I do know that Poland explicitly says in the Peace Sells DVD interview they turned the Presence all the way down. Also they used these 'Rockman' interfaces (theres a recent upload on here with Mustaine naming the exact one and talking about it a little) that played a huge factor overall on the sound they had for Peace Sells... But who's buying?

If you want this sound without using software and just the equipment you already own, it involves using a diode before one speaker with two speakers wired in parallel.
Video 1 is me playing parts to Peace Sells, But Who's Buying, listen with good speakers.

This is the only way I was able to achieve the slow modulated “chunky” awesome tone of many Megadeath albums without spending more money.
They also used a split rig fender twin with the rockman

I'm using Ableton live as my Daw, with Reaper can you hear all 4 tracks while you play at the same time or no?

Do you think you’d be able to do this with drum tones too? Using ez drummer 2 and just getting the kits that sound closest and minimal eq tweaking on the daw ?
Hard to say. But I think with these videos I prefer to only show the guitar tone. A lot of videos out there, I think people try to minimize (or hide) issues with the tone by adding background drums, music, etc. I like to keep it as real and raw as possible.
