Interesting. As someone who doesn't 3D model that has always been my barrier to entering 3D printing. This brings it into the realm of a copier and I could definitely see myself using it.
A 3d printer will get you modeling your own stuff either way, I also never modeled anything in my life beforehand and it took multiple tries over 2 mo ths until I was able to properly model things
I'm really amazed you don't have more subscribers, you're thoroughly entertaining, very informative and videos are on point. Keep up the great content thank you!
Will be waiting for functional part scans, that's the main use I see for 3D scanning (for me at least) to replace existing parts etc rather than creating from scratch in CAD
I think for functional parts I would like to measure them. Only more "organic shapes" can be scanned with success (but not shiny). But I will test it soon, waiting for suggestions of object type..
It's much easier, faster and infinitely more precise to model a functional part in CAD than using pretty much any form of 3D scanning tech. You also get a chance to improve on the part and make it friendlier for 3D printers. 3D scanning is used chiefly for organic objects, like in this video.
@@urjnlegend as much as I hate Autodesk policies, Fusion 360 should be the one you learn. It is free for hobby use (it is a slightly neutered commercial version of course). It is fully parametric, which is an absolute must for functional parts. Everyone uses it, there are tons of tutorials. The concepts you will learn in Fusion 360 are universal across most CAD packages. So if you ever decide to switch to a different platfrom your learning curve will be a lot shorter and shallower. It is not perfect but it is by far one of the friendlier options out there.
The video is super helpful. I have been trying for three weeks now to get it to work. The software sent does not work on a Mac and the Mac software that the tech support told me to download from the website was not correct or didn't work. I ended up downloading an older version which did work. The tech help is non existent so this video is very helpful. At the moment I can only get it to result in a scan about 1cm x 1cm of the object after showing the entire object has been scanned. It would be great if you could get a Mac and do it with a mac. The PC app has more options and looks complete. some of the PC options are missing from the app I downloaded from Creality. At the moment severely disappointed. Reality needs to work on instructions and software. Had the exact same issues with their printer. I got it working but with zero help from Creality. I really want to like these products.
I fully agree. This price is scandalously unaffordable compared to a CR 3D printer. I hope that it will drop once the development will have been reimbursed by the early buyers.
3d printer compared to 3d scanner, 3d printer much more simple technology involving moving the motors & processing line of codes. 3d scanner is much complex on the software side what makes the price higher than a printer. But always, technology will be improved & open source = much more competitive price by companies.
That stl handle might the closest thing to a real life DLC. I wonder if it will call the cops when someone attempts to duplicate itself by scanning a mirror.

We have this scanner and I have a question - how can I delete the stand on which the scanned object is standing (for example the desk) during a manual scan? Thanks a lot...
Hi, i saw the entire video. Very helpful and detailed. One quick question, my scanner is picking up the background bed as well in the handheld mode and that's causing the file size to balloon and it's inefficient in general. Can you tell me how does your scanner not pickup the background in the handheld mode / how to keep the focus solely on the target object ? TIA
It will pickup the background to some distance. But in one of the next steps the flat background (for example the desk) can be removed, only I didn't presented that in this video.
nice review, but can you use it scan big object like car mirors bumpers or whole car body??i want to buy it but before purchese it see the results how useble or work
Hi I'm thinking of using one of these to capture the front profile of a train. What are your thoughts on this? What is the software you used for the panaramic stitching? Maybe that could be used? Also do you know what is the maximum scan volume that can be saved to one file? And also what would the resolution be at such a larger volume?would it still be 0.5mm? Thanks for the great video! Best regards Dave
@@MyTechFun Thanks for the reply! Are the cables standard like usb etc or specials? Obviously usb can be extended easily. I have one of these and have had a horrible time trying to get it to work with the turntable. IT keeps saying the scanner is out of range even when right next to the table and the software is extremely confusing. I'm not sure if the issue is just trying to make this work in a tiny apartment or something with the lighting. I really want to scan things to print and this has been so frustrating.
How do you get Ender 3 V2 profile in Cura? I only see Ender 3 and 3 Pro in Cura (latest version). As I understand 3 Pro and 3 V2 are very similar so it's not a big deal but printing times differ quite a lot between Cura and printer. Can I download somewhere V2 profile for Cura or you created one yourself?
I have been thinking of buying a 3D scanner and have researched a few of them and have found that anything under $1000 is not any better than Photogrammetry and in some cases much worse, my experience with Creality products has not been a good one, mostly bad QA and support so I won't be buying one and will stick to Photogrammetry for the time being
Yes, huge difference in price. But in time too. With good photometry you will spent probably 6-7 hours, with this (the turntable mode, 1 pose) 15 minutes and your object is ready. Only the handheld mode I don't like so far, needs more practice..
@@MyTechFun I think their previous model (the tablet device) was better, I ve heard this scanner needs a decent computer to do the meshing. I looking at the revopoint pop, in demonstrations it seems to out perform all the creality products. For the moment I will stick with an iPhone 😁

Bought a CR 01 scanner Feb 2023 and it is a paperweight right now. It did not come with calibration files on the flash drive and will not auto-detect. Anyone else have this problem?? Please advice
Problem Solved: Running a years old budget board MSI Bazooka; I changed my scanners USB connection to one of the cluster of USB plugs designed to be for "VR Ready" and that makes sense for some of the operation problems others have posted (USB 2/USB 3 no auto-detection) HOWEVER: The CR-01 scanner I purchased failed to scan a small cylinder after 60hrs of changing lighting, angle, distance, failure to recognize turntable, and matte paint on the test piece.
The eyes won't pick up because they are reflecting light, get you some isopropyl alcohol and baby powder. Mix and put them in a spray bottle. Spray and let it dry.
Received this scanner today, tried to get it to work with 3 different computers. Getting the same error on all of them, Scanner failed to connect. Piece of shit, going to return it for a full refund.
This product / software looks horrible and time consuming. I was considering buying it, but seeing this made it a definite NO. Thank you for showing its shortcomings.
Actually the turntable is very usable, even in 1 pose mode and you can have the object in 15 minutes. The handheld mode is very hard to use it and for that, visually I can see no big difference with xbox kinect for example.. But I didn't measure these things so far.
