Okay, okay, OKAY! So you CAN pull down the notification shade withOUT touching the screen, you have to hold down the Square button and use the “Tab” button to cycle through them. Also, you CAN swipe the previous used apps when you push the Square button one by one you just clear it by pressing the “C” button!

Interesting to see as well how some apps like Whatsapp lose certain functionality (like voice clips) when using the physical controls.

Assign action button to pull down notifications bar as shortcut. Im using Cat phone and maximum times i use keypad only. One more… use nova launcher. It is very good for this phone.

You can press the "C" button to clear the apps one by one as well - although you need to press up and down first or the "tab" key first to do it

In fact you can access the upper tab by clicking and holding the square button, you can access the Google assistant by clicking and holding the circle button.

Hello Joseph …… what is the app you referred to as 9 app? If not correct, what is correct name, and where can I download it from ? Thanks. One other Annoying icon that I started experiencing. It look like a black flag in a floating circle. When I tap on it , it will speak audibly what ever it is covering. What ever site or pictures I’m on, this Awful Annoying circle is always there. To be honest I'm pretty impressed with what can you do with a old school flip phone physical keyboard, android and all of its apps are made with touch screen only in mind so the fact that you can do all of that things with buttons its pretty impresive, I wish we didn't have this operative system monopoly where its all android or its all IOS because this phone has a lot of potential but is restricted by android itself.
That's a really good point. It would be lovely to see this with an operating system that's 'de-Googled'.

I'll be completely honest, I hadn't thought about it until your question. As I've used the Old T9 Keyboard direct from the Play Store I have always assumed a level of cover/checking by Google, this might be misplaced but everything has been good so far.

How can I text only using the keyboard ? Like the physical keyboard ?? Cause it open up straight away the touch screen one but I’d like to text on the t9
Heya - it took me a bit of getting 're' used to the T9 keyboard, but it's great. You can set it so that the on-screen one *doesn't* appear and only the T9 physical keyboard appears.
I've actually got a video coming out with me using it for a longer time v soon! So hopefully that will be useful.

I just downloaded Old T9 keyboard from the App Store.
Could you also please cover why the default messaging app is different than the standard Android one? Is there an advantage to it for the CAT S22 specifically over the normal messaging app?
It's the only app that is compatible with the external display. With the normal app, you can't see if you have a text unless you open the phone.
when people call you, the simple act of opening it answers the call or do you have to accept, by clicking the green telephone icon?
Yes opening phone answers the call.
Actually you can make the notification bar go down, by long-pressing the square shaped button in the top right corner !
Maybe Nova Launcher can help you assign a button for a quick setting?

You can actually do that even with a stock launcher, by assigning the notification shade opening to the programmable button (works with both double press and long press).
Bro can you help me with the keyboard. I'm not able to use the physical keyboard. The kika keyboard just registers the 1 alphabet.
get TT9 instead. Kika sucks
It is actually possible to open the notification shade using only the keyboard. You can set the programmable button to do just that in the phone settings.

Great walkthrough Joseph! However can you tell me, is it possible to accept a whatsapp call with the "Physical button / Open flip" ? I'm about to buy this phone for my mom and she's having hard time with "swipe up to accept the call" on other Smart touch phones. Most of the times, she's fail to answer the call. And what's your thoughts about it's 2mp Front camera? Is it somewhat fine to see someone on a whatsapp video call? I found this S22 flip is the only phone with "Physical call buttons, Whatsapp video call & Front Camera". I'd like to hear you mate.

How to use a T9 keyboard?
is it also possible to habe my gboard on the screen and just using the keyboard in t9 mode
I’ve not been able to get that to work, I’d Gboard is selected the keypad just inputs numbers. I’ll do a trial midweek to see if I can make it work and change a few settings.
I would really like to know how to make the T9 keyboard go to "dumb mode" by default. right now I always have to press "#" to get to it. The default method is not intuitive to me - I am too used to multi-tap to get the letter I want
Also - are there alternative keypad-aware keyboards one could install that has more options?

Sure, so just to check I am getting this correct: you are having to switch to your T9 keyboard every time you open a messaging app? Do you mean it's set to touchscreen by default or the T9 that is set to default isn't the right one?
@@DumbphonesUK The T9 keyboard "kika" is set to the default, but there doesn't seem to be a way to set kika to "En" or "en" mode by default instead of "ENKT9". I am not a fan of T9, so I want kika to start in "En" mode instead of having to press "#" each time to get to "En" mode.
Is there another T9/En keyboard one can install that has more options?
Do you mean you want multi tap mode to be the default when you type. Old T9 keyboard app has such an option.

Joseph, I bought this phone for my 86 year old father. Sooooo he just needs to know how to use the very basic functions of the phone, contact and camera. Would you be willing to do a video to show the most basic functions of the dumb phone for dummies ;)

I'm trying to convert my husband to this flip phone but he can't type on the screen and pressing the normal # key isn't changing the typing from numbers to abc or T9. Do we need to install a T9 app and how do we remove the screen keyboard on WhatsApp if we're typing on the keypad?
Heya,
You will need to download a T9 app, I’d recommend ‘Old T9’ on Playstore. Then you need to go in to settings and change your defaults keyboard.
Once you’ve done that, when you start typing click the ‘back’ arrow to get rid of the on screen keyboard and you should be good to go! Hope that helps!

I bought an unlocked one off of Amazon last week for $52. Interesting phone, but it won't be my primary one. I'll be using the touchscreen. I don't have the discipline to find every keypad equivalent to it.

I don't have any social media accounts besides reddit and linkedin but I plan on not having these on the Cat, as well I want to disable the browser only activating it in emergencies
Heya, great question! So it reduced my screen time loads as the screen is *so* small, and, for me, I found that my social media use was because it was easy to carry on scrolling, so by putting a 'blocker' in the way it reduced that urge. It should be a great device for you.

I think the issue is there not being a market for 250 dollar flip phone in the US, lol

Hey Joseph, is there a possibility to use the keyboard in the old fashioned way: for example press two times on 5 and get a K. I can't type what I want at the moment. I can only choose from the suggestions. Is there a way to work without the suggestions? Thank you very much for your help!
Heya, which keyboard do you have installed? As the 'Old T9 Keyboard' does allow for that I will dig out later and let you know what to press to get it to 'manual' keyboard mode.
Yes I think so. However in the meantime I hqve figured out the problem. I just had to press the # button shortly to change to normal typing

@@DumbphonesUK I am using it right now!! Very smooth experience. The battery on this one doesn't last as long as yours though. Would you mind opening the phone and looking at the battery model you got? Might be able to find the same battery online 🤔
@@DumbphonesUK nevermind! It was because it was the new battery, I drained it, charged it fully, put some battery saving settings, and it is working like a charm. Lasting pretty much the same as in your video so far 😜
Glad to hear, sounds like you are enjoying the phone too which is amazing! If possible, turning off bluetooth and location really helped mine too, but appreciate we can't always have those off as we might need them!

this isnt a dumbphone as its a smartphone thats a flip phone, but i suppose you can use this phone to limit screen usage, which is why its an attractive option. id be able to get google maps and clock into work, but it would be too hard for me to want to consume any media on that damn thing. which is a good thing. i wanna try it
Agree, it’s a ‘dumber’ phone, or probs more honestly a transition device but it’s certainly exciting to see some variation on the market. 👌 Hopefully there will be more soon!
