It's a absolute shame that the old homes like this one is not protected for historical purposes!! The woodwork is just amazing. It is a lot of work and very expensive. I did remodeling and renovation for 50 years. Now a days it is cheaper to tear it down a build a new one. This one is not that bad though because it was built right in the first place. Just some water damage that they need to deal with.
That's the problem actually they do have protections. If you buy it you can only use the most expensive paints you can NOT ALTER THEIR APPEARANCE. (until the state wants to tear it down of course) They made it so they are impossible to buy and renovate unless you're rich and rich people want new things.. 💯 💯 It is really sad 💯
The woodwork, the finish carpentry cost as much as the basic house. The house was $3,000 and all the woodwork was $3,000. So a house cost $6,000 before WW2 and they went up to $12,000 after the war for just a basic house with no woodwork in it.
The only thing that is protected in so called amurika which is in the center of the world is just another pro jelly lubricant and left hand right next to it
It's not really individualized craftsmanship though, the scroll work and detailing would all come out of a catalogue mass produced in a factory and shipped to the site. But at least it was real wood, and it's a shame it's being torn down.
@@venus_envy I would have to disagree with you. In that era when building, a lot of people had wood workers on side with a lathe, carving piece by piece. Where I come from in Canada anyway. Might be different down state.

I'm renovating a 1906 house in east central Indiana. The bones of the house are solid and original. It will be a very liveable home for the 21st Century but will still retain the feel of the turn of the last century. When it's finished I don't know what I'll do with it. I don't plan to rent it or sell it. I just want to enjoy it for a while. It gives me so much pleasure to see it blossom again. I have such a good feeling when I'm in the house and especially when I'm in the back yard enjoying the view from under the 120-year-old Magnolia tree. We should keep some of the best from our past for our children to see and touch. I believe it makes them feel secure.
While I see your point I get the impression you have never lived in one of these. Victorian architecture was crude, clumsy, very cold, inconvenient and weird. It's better to just go to the local Victorian house museum in your town (one day in summer) and then go home to your 1995 2,000 square foot home. Trust me on this. One more thing, restoration of Victorian homes is a giant money vacuum cleaner like you cannot imagine.
It wouldn’t require 10 million. Probably 75k in renovations if someone did some of the work themselves and the big work for pros. Then it would probably be worth a couple million at minimum, depending on specs in area, amount and quality of land and location. Be a great Bed and Breakfast.
Im in australia but have beautiful friends in Kentucky who want me to immigrate. I would have bought that beauty if i was in USA. Its gorgeous...so light and airy with a good feel to it.

Heartbreaking that these historical homes aren’t kept up and preserved. The woodwork is amazing. I love everything about these homes. Today they slap homes together with no fine details.. I don’t think there’s any home built today that would last this long or anywhere near this long. Tragically sad to tear this masterpiece down to put up another housing tract smh
If it's so heartbreaking to you, you should've purchased it and moved into the basement for a couple days, you'd then realize what a POS this place has degenerated into, at least modern tract homes have a real foundation that will outlast this Texas Chainsaw site.

Makes you wonder how many feet ran through,played walked slept,loved,cried, enjoyed,loved this place,how much history and stories it would tell.Beyond beautiful,loved the lattice on the walls,stained glass.In ignorance the developers don't see the value and workmanship in there,only cardboard homes will be built there,and nothing that will last a hundred and fifty years from now!! It was remarkable seeing the curlers on the bathroom counter and the little choir programme on the bed like someone was there at one point reading it and just left it in the bed.
I live in a C. 1889 Victorian house in Maryland. On the walls of the back steps, are pictures of the family that built the house. Research was done on the family, and on the back of the pics are whomthe person is, DoB etc. Really really neat to have. Plus, we found initials catches in a kitchen window. I love old homes.
Such a beautiful old home! Its tragic how a lot of people today don't appreciate these quality, historic old places! The new homes that are being built today all look alike..no charm, no charecter and are not built to last. I wish someone could save all these old homes! The woodwork on the 1st floor was in pristine condition. Agree with you that this house should not be torn down. At least remove all the woodwork & stain glass to be used elsewhere. It's a shame there is no appreciation for this type of craftsmanship. Excellent find Kappy! Cheers

I don't understand why so much History is being torned and destroyed. It seems people don't want to be reminded the 20th century is here and we need to know how those before us lived.So we can learn how to survive the hard ships of today.
That house is worth being painstakingly taken and reset among breathtaking gardens. Wow, only 5 minutes in and I’m in need of smelling salts. It’s not ridiculously ornate, just simply wonderful. It stands on its own. Whomever designed it was brilliant. That is a home to be lived in. ✨✨✨✨✨
I have to admit, this was hard to watch knowing it was going to be torn down. Incredibly sad. And all for some horrible development. Could just cry! It gives really good vibes too, like it saw a lot of happy family living within it's walls. Houses like this will never be built again. I would literally cry seeing this home torn down. So sad that no one has an interest is preserving our history. This house is gorgeous! The architecture is stunning!
Historical Societies are usually involved in preserving these old homes. The style we are looking at here is Queen Anne. One of the characteristic's of Queen Anne architecture is the Turret, that rounded series of small rooms. and the curvature of the surround on the covered front porch. The wood work over the door leading to the second staircase, is known as a spandrel, and all of the glass about the doors are known as transoms. This home would have been a glory to see in it's day before it was allowed to fall into disrepair. There are a great many of this style in Upstate New York as well as in Brockville , Canada, across the river near the Johnstown Bridge. Thanks for sharing.
What a beauty she once was. I would put a big Christmas tree in that area going upstairs. You do such a good job showing us these houses. Thank you! I just saw this house on 2 other explores channels. They must've been there before you because I didn't any graffiti there. Also, there is a family graveyard on the property. Tombstone on a child that died at 6 years of age.

So beautiful. I bought a 120 year old home before I got married, but there was not this much detail. The house looked much like this one except just one level. The entire back wall of the kitchen was burned out by a previous renter. It had twelve foot ceilings and an original fireplace. It was only four large rooms but it had so much potential. It took almost a year to restore it with what I could afford by working two jobs. It 's still standing now and I pass it daily. It has been beatifully preserved.
It's a romantic notion to save all these houses. But it's not that easy and some are just not able to be saved. I've renovated a few of these houses and it is always problematic and extremely expensive.

Hey Kappy . Luckily I have had the pleasure of working on and refurbishing many old homes of this quality . In my area this style of architecture is called Gingerbread . Most all were built by German Craftsmen . Hundreds of man hours went into building this magnificent home . This home looks structurally sound and could be fairly simple to be livable again . What a Grand home ! Thanks Brother ,,,,,,
@M.J.G. Yes. The Queen Anne homes with the turrets are Lovely! The gingerbread work is intricate but I tend to find less is more with it. I like ones with a bit maybe as accent on porches, not so much inside.
Crazy thing I saw. Tornado ripped through an area close to my town. Many of the newer homes received tons of damage. A older historic home on the outskirts was directly hit by it and other than some of the woodwork on the porch and roof we're torn off. Just goes to show how much pride people took in their work back then. I genuinely wish I could experience life and times back in the day when everything didn't move so fast

Wow I’m that much into old homes, and yes alot of them are beautifully restored but, I rarely can picture myself living in them. This one is beautiful, the amount of light that is in most parts of this house is gorgeous. The bones of the house seem to be in phenomenal condition, and that is one of the prettiest woodwork I have ever seen. This place mostly needs restoration and a kitchen remodel. Just a gorgeous house!
I'm really into old houses and imagine myself living in all I see in my hometown it has sooo many old historic homes Victorian and brick style. This house is literally my dream home and I was imagining the whole time I watched this video lol.

What I find so sad is when people try to "update" older homes like this as we saw the kitchen was so different, then later you had that drop-ceiling which makes me wonder if someone tried to convert the room to an "office" space... I've seen many explorer vids where homes/buildings were "updated" with walls/ceilings that were so ugly and then when you look behind them and find real craftsmanship with various designs in woodwork, pillars, ceiling trim etc. It's just that it's old, discolored or in slight disrepair...
Our Victorian era home also has two beautiful staircases. Both can be seen from the front foyer. Woodwork is similar also. Our home was lovingly cared for through the years, thankfully. We also have five huge crystal chandeliers and several smaller ones (guess who gets to clean them-and with 12 foot ceilings it gets a little scary). We have 6 fireplaces-three of which are very ornate. I absolutely love these historical homes and it’s really heartbreaking to see ones that were once so beautiful falling into ruin. It’s a lot of hard work cleaning them and the upkeep is constant but worth it-at least until I get too old to do it!

A stunning number of major historic building have been destroyed, and continue to be destroyed, without having been properly photographed. This house was probably of state-wide importance, and possibly national importance. Considering the huge profits the developer will make, it is a sin that they did not move this home, which would have been surprisingly affordable. The surviving mantel's ornament and form were inspired by the remarkable English designer Christopher Dresser (4 July 1834 - 24 November 1904). You are absolutely correct, this was a home worth saving. This is pure greed at it most destructive. I'll bet the investors recycle their trash, while destroying this house. We are going to leave our children a world closely resembling an unflushed toilet.
Well said! I really can't stand greedy developers that destroy history & eat up land. When all the trees are cut down, lets see them try to breathe concrete! So sad & disgusting.

AMEN. SHOULD BE FIXED UP..BED & Breakfast. Hotel .Office spaces..just to name a few..with the history of the place. Could have paid for the upkeep. Look a Biltmore in east Tennessee. Those owners are crazy..They had a fortune to sell. For penny's on a dollar.

My sister owns my grandparents farm. Its hers, out and out, so I really shouldn't complain and I dont. But... when I was a kid I loved that place, wood paneling, Grams knitting and crochet work everywhere, fire place crackling. I would watch black and white cowboy movies with my grandfather after big meals and it was a challenge in that place to not slip into an oh so comfortable sleep. And it had ghosts. But in a good way, they knew us, there wasnt a hostile vibe at all. My sister works among the ritch yuppies in the high end towns much removed from where we live, they have their homes decorated white, cold, and often black marble and such. Good for them, but to me these stark white houses are cold and uninviting. So in wanting to be like the folks on the hill she has redecorated the old farm in the image of the new style, I hate it. I dont go there anymore. I dont want to hurt her feelings, I just dont talk about it. Old houses, and particularly old farm houses have a real " homey" vibe that is hard to produce with cash.
I’m 30 and wish I had the money to buy an old Victorian home! Craftsmanship is amazing, shows how far we’ve gone away from it. You look at the homes from then and look at the ones now and can’t help but think what happened?! Absolutely a beautiful home.
I've worked in construction for twenty years and am currently restoring a house build in 1870. This house was beautiful once upon a time, but it's beyond saving. It would cost a million dollars to fix up this place.

I heard the same emotion and awe in your voice that I have felt when having the privilege of entering one of these ancient beauties. Your steady hand was much appreciated. Hopefully the woodwork, window frames, door frames, stained glass and other fixtures will be salvaged before tearing the place down. Beautiful craftsmanship throughout. It illustrates the fact that homes and structures must be maintained, or they will fall into disrepair. Nature will run its course and overtake everything if not maintained.
The reason they are tearing it down is that Obiden has given us 5 milion more "citizens" and Democrat voters. The border, remember? They have to install their new voters SOMEWHERE.

The Knotty Pine Walked spaces would have been an upgrade in the late 40's early 50's. *This was once a truly Grand Design and Living Space. It would blow the mind to see this in it's original Grandeur.* The area around the Staircase with split level seating was a waiting area for visitors, it was stunning in it's original Design. Quite an expensive home in it's day. This one surprises me that it hasn't been saved before it got to this state.
yeah when it was new years ago, NOW there's most likely a person that feels the same way that is No longer alive But "visits" that House. This is why many Dumb people buy an old ass Victorian House & then say " we didn't know it was Haunted"
My son went on scholarship to do research in medicine, right before he went to Med school. First Spain, then Madrid Italy. There are VERY strict rules in both countries..that nothing can built new (only in a few far off places, to keep the homes & ruins from being torn down. I’m talking jail sentences!!) But America, the country I love,coming from a LONG family history of my aunts, uncles, gran & great grandfather on both my moms side & my fathers side serving in the military. We cannot leave ANYTHING alone here…or very few things. It’s disgusting I think…..
I've seen others explore this house before the banisters and fireplace were missing. There's just something about this house that feels like home. My favorite to date.
If they won't preserve such an amazing home-and I can't believe it isn't historically significant to the area-then they should at least salvage as much as possible of those beautiful features. Thank you for documenting it at least.

This is one of my favorite homes you’ve explored!!! Even the cringey 1970s update was enjoyable to look at-while imagining how I’d undo it to restore this beauty. Green shag carpeting and drop ceilings weren’t enough to turn me off this lovely home. And it was clearly loved on for much of its life. Such a shame it’s gone especially to make way for houses made of ticky tacky. Thank you for documenting this one before it was demolished.

They simply do not make them like this anymore. If it was left standing and well maintained, it would likely still be around when whatever replaces it is long gone. The woodwork and fireplaces are worth a fortune, and as for historical purposes, the whole place is priceless. So sad!!!

Lmao, yeah beautiful until you get down to the Texas Chainsaw style basement. Best thing to do with this is tear out any remaining wood stuctures ..... staircases, fireplaces, trim, doors etc, then light a match and fill the basement in with a skid steer after it's all said and done.

As a firefighter it’s amazing how more of these houses aren’t still around or being occupied. These 100+ year old houses are far safer than the garbage being built today. Everything back then was all real materials. Now it’s all plastic and glue

I have such a good feeling when I'm in the house and especially when I'm in the back yard enjoying the view from under the 120-year-old Magnolia tree. We should keep some of the best from our past for our children to see and touch. I believe it makes them feel secure.
It's a crime to tear this down. Hopefully, they will be salvaging the amazing wood work. Homes like these...a dying art. It breaks my heart.

While I see your point I get the impression you have never lived in one of these. Victorian architecture was crude, clumsy, very cold, inconvenient and weird. It's better to just go to the local Victorian house museum in your town (one day in summer) and then go home to your 1995 2,000 square foot home. Trust me on this. One more thing, restoration of Victorian homes is a giant money vacuum cleaner like you cannot imagine.

There's a house just like this near my house. It sat vacant for around 20 years and is just now getting refurbished.
Fun fact, my husband’s grandmother and her family owned this. She lived there as a kid. The family farm is right up the road from there.

Heartbreaking that these historical homes aren’t kept up and preserved. The woodwork is amazing. I love everything about these homes. Today they slap homes together with no fine details.. I don’t think there’s any home built today that would last this long or anywhere near this long. Tragically sad to tear this masterpiece down to put up another housing tract smh

It was remarkable seeing the curlers on the bathroom counter and the little choir programme on the bed like someone was there at one point reading it and just left it in the bed.

I live in a C. 1889 Victorian house in Maryland. On the walls of the back steps, are pictures of the family that built the house. Research was done on the family, and on the back of the pics are whomthe person is, DoB etc. Really really neat to have. Plus, we found initials catches in a kitchen window. I love old homes.

The new homes that are being built today all look alike..no charm, no charecter and are not built to last. I wish someone could save all these old homes! The woodwork on the 1st floor was in pristine condition. Agree with you that this house should not be torn down. At least remove all the woodwork & stain glass to be used elsewhere. It's a shame there is no appreciation for this type of craftsmanship. Excellent find Kappy! Cheers

That house is worth being painstakingly taken and reset among breathtaking gardens. Wow, only 5 minutes in and I’m in need of smelling salts. It’s not ridiculously ornate, just simply wonderful. It stands on its own. Whomever designed it was brilliant. That is a home to be lived in. ✨✨✨✨✨

I have to admit, this was hard to watch knowing it was going to be torn down. Incredibly sad. And all for some horrible development. Could just cry! It gives really good vibes too, like it saw a lot of happy family living within it's walls. Houses like this will never be built again. Historical Societies are usually involved in preserving these old homes. The style we are looking at here is Queen Anne. One of the characteristic's of Queen Anne architecture is the Turret, that rounded series of small rooms. and the curvature of the surround on the covered front porch. The wood work over the door leading to the second staircase, is known as a spandrel, and all of the glass about the doors are known as transoms. This home would have been a glory to see in it's day before it was allowed to fall into disrepair. There are a great many of this style in Upstate New York as well as in Brockville , Canada, across the river near the Johnstown Bridge. Thanks for sharing.

I just saw this house on 2 other explores channels. They must've been there before you because I didn't any graffiti there. Also, there is a family graveyard on the property. Tombstone on a child that died at 6 years of age.

So beautiful. I bought a 120 year old home before I got married, but there was not this much detail. The house looked much like this one except just one level. The entire back wall of the kitchen was burned out by a previous renter. It had twelve foot ceilings and an original fireplace. It was only four large rooms but it had so much potential. It took almost a year to restore it with what I could afford by working two jobs. It 's still standing now and I pass it daily. It has been beatifully preserved.

Hey Kappy . Luckily I have had the pleasure of working on and refurbishing many old homes of this quality . In my area this style of architecture is called Gingerbread . Most all were built by German Craftsmen . Hundreds of man hours went into building this magnificent home . This home looks structurally sound and could be fairly simple to be livable again . What a Grand home ! Thanks Brother ,,,,,,
@M.J.G. Yes. The Queen Anne homes with the turrets are Lovely! The gingerbread work is intricate but I tend to find less is more with it. I like ones with a bit maybe as accent on porches, not so much inside.
I don't think you can tell from this video how structurally sound it is or how simple it would be to make it livable again.
Crazy thing I saw. Tornado ripped through an area close to my town. Many of the newer homes received tons of damage. A older historic home on the outskirts was directly hit by it and other than some of the woodwork on the porch and roof we're torn off. Just goes to show how much pride people took in their work back then. I genuinely wish I could experience life and times back in the day when everything didn't move so fast

Wow I’m that much into old homes, and yes alot of them are beautifully restored but, I rarely can picture myself living in them. This one is beautiful, the amount of light that is in most parts of this house is gorgeous. The bones of the house seem to be in phenomenal condition, and that is one of the prettiest woodwork I have ever seen. This place mostly needs restoration and a kitchen remodel. Just a gorgeous house!

I'm really into old houses and imagine myself living in all I see in my hometown it has sooo many old historic homes Victorian and brick style. This house is literally my dream home and I was imagining the whole time I watched this video lol.

What I find so sad is when people try to "update" older homes like this as we saw the kitchen was so different, then later you had that drop-ceiling which makes me wonder if someone tried to convert the room to an "office" space... I've seen many explorer vids where homes/buildings were "updated" with walls/ceilings that were so ugly and then when you look behind them and find real craftsmanship with various designs in woodwork, pillars, ceiling trim etc. It's just that it's old, discolored or in slight disrepair...

Our Victorian era home also has two beautiful staircases. Both can be seen from the front foyer. Woodwork is similar also. Our home was lovingly cared for through the years, thankfully. We also have five huge crystal chandeliers and several smaller ones (guess who gets to clean them-and with 12 foot ceilings it gets a little scary). We have 6 fireplaces-three of which are very ornate. I absolutely love these historical homes and it’s really heartbreaking to see ones that were once so beautiful falling into ruin. It’s a lot of hard work cleaning them and the upkeep is constant but worth it-at least until I get too old to do it!
Thanks so much for recording this house. Your film may well be the only record of this home's interior. A stunning number of major historic building have been destroyed, and continue to be destroyed, without having been properly photographed. This house was probably of state-wide importance, and possibly national importance. Considering the huge profits the developer will make, it is a sin that they did not move this home, which would have been surprisingly affordable.

This house is just breathtaking. I love how it still holds the original woodworking. For it to be abandoned it really held up well. It really sucks that it is being torn down stuff like this should be protected.

Certainly, there should be a petition that could be done to save this home. With the right people and investments, this home could be a very gorgeous one. It is such a shame that we live in an era that no longer cares about our history. This house should be protected by Nashville's Historic District.
People with that kind of money can build a larger house built to suit. I think most of those are ugly.
AMEN. SHOULD BE FIXED UP..BED & Breakfast. Hotel .Office spaces..just to name a few..with the history of the place. Could have paid for the upkeep. Look a Biltmore in east Tennessee. Those owners are crazy..They had a fortune to sell. For penny's on a dollar.

My sister owns my grandparents farm. Its hers, out and out, so I really shouldn't complain and I dont. But... when I was a kid I loved that place, wood paneling, Grams knitting and crochet work everywhere, fire place crackling. I would watch black and white cowboy movies with my grandfather after big meals and it was a challenge in that place to not slip into an oh so comfortable sleep.
And it had ghosts. But in a good way, they knew us, there wasnt a hostile vibe at all.
My sister works among the ritch yuppies in the high end towns much removed from where we live, they have their homes decorated white, cold, and often black marble and such. Good for them, but to me these stark white houses are cold and uninviting.
So in wanting to be like the folks on the hill she has redecorated the old farm in the image of the new style, I hate it. I dont go there anymore. I dont want to hurt her feelings, I just dont talk about it.
Old houses, and particularly old farm houses have a real " homey" vibe that is hard to produce with cash.
I’m 30 and wish I had the money to buy an old Victorian home! Craftsmanship is amazing, shows how far we’ve gone away from it. You look at the homes from then and look at the ones now and can’t help but think what happened?! Absolutely a beautiful home.

I've worked in construction for twenty years and am currently restoring a house build in 1870. This house was beautiful once upon a time, but it's beyond saving. It would cost a million dollars to fix up this place.

Hopefully the woodwork, window frames, door frames, stained glass and other fixtures will be salvaged before tearing the place down. Beautiful craftsmanship throughout. It illustrates the fact that homes and structures must be maintained, or they will fall into disrepair. Nature will run its course and overtake everything if not maintained.

Can you imagine how wonderful it would be to own a home like this one? It's a real beauty. The Knotty Pine Walked spaces would have been an upgrade in the late 40's early 50's. *This was once a truly Grand Design and Living Space. It would blow the mind to see this in it's original Grandeur.*
The area around the Staircase with split level seating was a waiting area for visitors, it was stunning in it's original Design.
Quite an expensive home in it's day. This one surprises me that it hasn't been saved before it got to this state.

My son went on scholarship to do research in medicine, right before he went to Med school. First Spain, then Madrid Italy. There are VERY strict rules in both countries..that nothing can built new (only in a few far off places, to keep the homes & ruins from being torn down. I’m talking jail sentences!!) But America, the country I love,coming from a LONG family history of my aunts, uncles, gran & great grandfather on both my moms side & my fathers side serving in the military. We cannot leave ANYTHING alone here…or very few things. It’s disgusting I think…..

I've seen others explore this house before the banisters and fireplace were missing. There's just something about this house that feels like home. My favorite to date.

This is one of my favorite homes you’ve explored!!! Even the cringey 1970s update was enjoyable to look at-while imagining how I’d undo it to restore this beauty. Green shag carpeting and drop ceilings weren’t enough to turn me off this lovely home. And it was clearly loved on for much of its life. Such a shame it’s gone especially to make way for houses made of ticky tacky. Thank you for documenting this one before it was demolished.

They simply do not make them like this anymore. If it was left standing and well maintained, it would likely still be around when whatever replaces it is long gone. The woodwork and fireplaces are worth a fortune, and as for historical purposes, the whole place is priceless. So sad!!!

Sublime old 🏠 house oozing with charm and beautiful craftsmanship. Breathtaking stunning stained glass ! What a shame that such beauty and history is not valued these days. Another sign of the times. An appalling loss to NOT preserve this historical gem.
Perfect adjective to describe this monstrosity, oozing, with filth, vermin, probably disease. This is what DECADES of neglect do! Those that are foolish enough to think they could restore this to it's former glory are seriously fooling only themselves. You would be bankrupt before any change happened.
That house can never be replaced! Absolutely stunning!

The structure and woodwork in this house are beautiful. It's mostly historic and should not be torn down
Lmao, yeah beautiful until you get down to the Texas Chainsaw style basement. Best thing to do with this is tear out any remaining wood stuctures ..... staircases, fireplaces, trim, doors etc, then light a match and fill the basement in with a skid steer after it's all said and done.
What a treasure…the details are incredible. When I see historical places like this, I always wish it was possible to blink one’s eyes and be transported back in time to its heyday. Beautiful home!

Kappy, what a majestic house this must have been back in it's day, so sad that it can't be saved , the woodwork alone is worth saving it, ,it must have been really warm at one time also with all those beautiful fireplaces
Ryan homes ... why am I not surprised? A salvage team needs to strip everything out of that home before Ryan Homes destroys it all with their shitty developments.
As a firefighter it’s amazing how more of these houses aren’t still around or being occupied. These 100+ year old houses are far safer than the garbage being built today. Everything back then was all real materials. Now it’s all plastic and glue
