      This is one of the most interesting shows I’ve ever watched in my little 31 years. It’s so dope and scary in a way no show/movie has ever been “scary” before. The scary part turned into a feeling of understanding for potential magic happening throughout the show and it’s taken me to a different realm of reality that is almost strong enough to hold its shape outside of the show 😂. If that makes any sense.

    I am ecstatic to see that you are doing a “Changeling Explained” series! I watched all of your “Silo Explained” vids and came to enjoy them almost to the same degree as watching the episodes themselves. For Silo, I would note my conclusions to see how closely they matched your recaps, and it really gave the show extra layers and depth that made each new episode increasingly enjoyable to watch. I watched all three episodes of “Changeling” back-to-back, and thought, “Meh, this is a pretty decent show.” It wasn’t until I got to the 4th episode, where one character makes an off-hand remark, that I thought, “Oh holy shirt. I think this dude is _____.” But I have no friends watching the show and no one to discuss my theories with. I thought to myself, “I wonder if ThinkStory is doing an ‘Explained’” and, lo and behold, you ARE! I really appreciate your careful attention to detail, and some level of research must go into this, (as no one can know the history of every last name to know that a surname, for example, ties back to Dutch.) Many instances I would probably look up for myself, for instance, an overview of the God Apollo, but handily, you do the legwork for me. Ha! Another example is that the monster/entity is clearly visible in the waves, but I would have never taken the time, myself, to slow down the episode. I really cannot wait to watch your Recap of Ep4, but I actually stopped in the middle of the episode to check UA-cam for your series. Apologies to fangirl out, but credit where credit is due. Also, not required, but I think your voice is both soothing and also mysterious, like a narrator who leads his audience into the dark and stormy woods of the story. Appreciate your work and your recaps! Best in the biz, for sure! (Have liked and subscribed under a different account.)

    5:13 The fairies of the poem were not taking children away to protect them. That line of the poem was meant to come off in a beguiling way. The fairies were deceptive to the children and gave them a false sense of security so that they would come away with them.

      Whoever tried to analyse the series is a tad thick...

    • @oonaghmontague8607
      @oonaghmontague8607 Рік тому +3

      The original of the line, WB Yeats, wrote it as a goodbye to the child he lost. The fairies he refers to are Irish fairiies. Neither good nor bad, just mischievous. However in his poem, Come Away Oh Human Child, it is meant that the fairies are guiding the child away from the human world of pain and suffering. It's a comfort to a parent that their child joins nature via the fairies.

    • @eloigillarty3285
      @eloigillarty3285 Рік тому +3

      we are not talking about Yeats' personal attachment to the poem, nor are we analyzing and breaking down metaphors and other devices. In the poem, the fairies are not "guiding" the child away, they are luring. They describe a better place in order to tempt the child to come away with them, promising him a life of joy and freedom away from the human world, away from his home and family. The show references the poem because the whole point of it is that the fairies are luring the child away. Due to the mischievous nature of fairies, the image of them luring a child away can be haunting. Fairies aren't seen as simply mischievous in the show, which is why it is said that a baby is a dream but dreams are the fairies' favorite meal, to give us the idea that they may have ill intentions. You need to look at it from the perspective of how it relates to the show, not just putting all your focus on the poem.

    • @patiencemitane2948
      @patiencemitane2948 Рік тому +2

      Couldn't agree more with this statement hence the line "Children are like dreams and dreams are a fairies favourite meal."

      In my opinion, I don't think that the novel handles it well when it comes to the transition from them thinking they're going crazy to them accepting the truth of what's really happening. Hopefully, the show will have a better transition from one to the other.

    I'm so glad you're following this! I still have yet to fully grasp what we're watching here. Is it supernatural? Some sort of underground conspiracy? Or are we just simply watching two people go insane?
    The biggest WTF came from the last couple scenes in the third episode - starting with the group meeting in the church. Everything in that scene and the scenes that followed just seemed wrong.
    -Is this supposed to be the same group from earlier in the episode, "The Survivors"? It had the same leader and some of the same attendees? They started talking about how they found out about the group through a message board and how they were all members or fans. It kind of seemed to parallel The Mothers / The Wise Ones
    -Then there's the lady who's story was the same as Emma's - exactly the same. Except it seems like her baby and husband are still alive. Which begs the question, what is she doing in a survivors support group?
    -Then there's the guy who wants to buy the book. Why would Patrice tell him to go meet Apollo at the support group of all places? Especially since Patrice is the one with the book? Then he just so happens to record the meeting cause it's a "silly habit". Then he is able to find "the wise ones" from some book. Yeah, i'm sure it's probably in 1000s of books that contain "wise ones".
    To me, it seems like this is more of a story about two people going through psychosis. First with Emma, and now with Apollo.

      Also, you might want to go to Celtic Lore, English, Irish, Scottish and Welsh and I do know about comparative religions , the big three and other more Earth based religion that are considered Pagan. The Three Mothers are important because it shows the progression from adolescents (Maiden), to adulthood and child bearing (Mother) and the old woman who represents knowledge that comes from wisdom and would be the one who people went to for advise or if they were in need of medical services. The Druids were healers and the women were the first physicians in the world. There was no evil and it is not satanism at all.
      The Fairy Circle you are not suppose to cross or step into, people believe this today. So, I'm not sure what you are trying to say because the Three Mothers or The Wise Ones were generally often times women who the tribes would go to for a number of things, she is basically the first Shaman, so I've heard from many indigenous people have stated so to me.

I read some reviews from critics that got to see the episodes early and they were all so negative, one saying it’s a poor adaptation of the book, when it is literally word for word and the visuals are just what you would picture while reading the book so I’m so glad I watched and I can’t wait to see/read what happens!

    I feel like Apollo's mom is a witch/practitioner regardless if she's "Cal". When she and her siblings were back in Africa, they were singing an obeah song (THE SAME SONG that played at Emma & Apollo's wedding). And she acted weird when Apollo said something about his recurring nightmare too. The secrets/lies about his father are so suspicious.
    *Is it just me or does anyone notice that Brian (the baby) changes throughout these episodes?* Like, his skintone is sometimes light/dark. Looks like he's been switched.
    The library theme gives me an Akashic record vibe too. The Orixa/psychic was my favorite part! I love how the director implemented a different perspective on that diner scene.

    Apollo had a TWIN SISTER, thats a girl. Artemis or Artemisa!!!!! Born to Leto, who was a crazy b*tch.. And was with Zeus before Hera. When born, their mother only cares for Apollo and abandoned Artemis. Artemis, was goddess of Night, the huntress... Goddess of the Women Hunters... Amazonians are women hunters, and who went to the Amazon???? You guessed it, EMMA. This fits Emma's, backstory. It could be that Emma,,, Artemis (Ema is in the name...) OMG Emma could be his sister, Also, Zeus would often come in secret as a bird, or disguised as animals, to visit his children. And he was always in good favor with his kids, but for some reason would let Hera, his wife, torment the women he slept and had kids with. Hera, his wife also had a habit of killing his kids and sometimes... failing. Like in Hercules' case.
    Also, this is similar to American Gods. If you like this show... you will like that one too.

      I am biracial. I always think American films cannot deal with biracial children very well. In American films, biracial children are always born black. Which I have never seen in real life 😂. In the UK, it’s a different story; biracial is what it is.
      Also black people in parts of Papua New Guinea and Australian aboriginals often naturally have the combination of dark skin and blonde hair.

    Fairies are not taking children to protect them. Every folklore and story (based on experiences) in different cultures about fairies, talks about their dark nature too. I am german and in Goethes famous poem "Der Erlkönig", a father tries to save his young son from fairies/elves who wanna take him for pleasure. There are some interpretations of that poem that try to dumb it down and make it about going through puberty because they wanted to erase the spiritual aspect of it.
