    I was lucky enough to have Lord Foul's Bane given to me as a birthday gift some years ago. I would love to add Tigana to sit beside it, but I have trouble knowing where to look to find these books. I feel as if a lot of the listings online are fake.

    • @BeautifulBooks

      John Oliveira Cool 😀 I actually buy a lot of books second-hand through Abe’s - the few that have been incorrectly listed I’ve been able to get a refund for without a problem. But I do avoid the massive warehouses (like Thrift books etc) for Easton Press, because as you say they don’t always list their books properly. So long as they provide a photo or the actual book rather than a stock photo (and I wouldn’t hesitate to ask for one if you’re not sure) then you should be good. Tigana is unfortunately usually fairly expensive, but it’s lovely and will be worth the wait - good luck!

    Thank you for this fascinating look into your collection of Easton Press Books. I began reading adult fantasy in the 70's and so many of these titles and authors are very dear to my heart. Some of them I do have in hardcover (David Eddings and Raymond Feist's books and some of Katherine Kurtz's later stuff) but so many others I've just got in small paperback and wish I could get in hardback. Especially Katherine Kurtz's earlier Deryni books and Judith Tarrs series. Now I want to go reread my classic fantasy stuff!!!

    Of these I have Magician (the one which cost me a hefty sum), Tigana, Lord Valentine’s Castle, Three Hearts and Three Lions and The Malacia Tapestry. One that I ‘d like is Pawn of Prophecy but it’s one of the most expensive to get.
    I hadn’t seen the Easton frontispieces for the LeGuin books! They are much more beautiful than the sepia toned illustrations of the Folio edition of A Wizard.
    Btw, my copy of Tigana has also the text block sagging.

    • @BeautifulBooks
      @BeautifulBooks  4 роки тому

      Sounds like you have some of the best ones 😀 I was lucky enough to collect the books while they were still running it as a series, since as you say several of them are now quite pricey second-hand. I love Tigana - sorry to hear about your text block sagging though, that's disappointing. I had problems with gilt and leather on one of the Science Fiction classics getting stuck on another book - ruined two books at once - I was pretty mad about that! I think the Rebecca Guay frontispieces for the Le Guin tetralogy are really lovely too (although I'm greedy and would have loved more than one illustration per book...) Dx

    A well rounded list.
    I was pleasantly surprised to see Katherine Kurtz on the list6. Her name reminds me of Katharine Kerr, who's Deverry cycle just sound soooooo alike. Not the series, but the author's name, and the series.
    I am surprised they didn't include Lloyd A Alexander on the list.
    I have found some material I've not read.
    peace,
    Rick

    • @BeautifulBooks
      @BeautifulBooks  4 роки тому

      Glad you found some new books! And yes, I loved Lloyd Alexander's Prydain series, it would have been a great inclusion in this series. I just have some battered paperbacks - I saw they did release some nice anniversary editions a couple of years ago, but they went out of print pretty quickly, and some of the volumes are craaaazy expensive!

  • @TwoMiceOnMyBookshelf
    @TwoMiceOnMyBookshelf 4 роки тому +1

    I finally took that step and went for a couple of Easton Press books. We need to talk about their international ordering system! 😭So now that's out of the way 😅do you know why their earlier printings often do not include any information about the authorship of the book and their illustrations, original publishers and date of publishings, and all the basic information one often expects in a standard book....? After tripping over my books for the oomphteenth times, I am finally gearing up for additional bookshelves. You and a few others have been great inspirations to me as far as motivation goes. So thank you 😁

    • @BeautifulBooks
      @BeautifulBooks  4 роки тому +2

      Oh yes, international ordering is not easy with Easton Press. A lot of their books are actually reprints of books that were originally printed by The Limited Editions Club and Heritage Press. Those original books were sent out with a short 'magazine' (one or two pages) that had lots of interesting information about the author and illustrator, history and context, etc. Because many of these books were published pre-isbn, they didn't have all the publication information we have in more modern books (and much of the information was also in the accompanying magazines). Easton just reprint the original text block and don't update it, which is why lots of the details are missing! So, if you're looking at older books and the EP volume is expensive, it's worth checking to see if it was printed first by LEC or HP. They typically aren't leather-bound, but the illustrations are brighter and more vibrant - the LEC ones are often signed by the author or illustrator, and the HP ones are waaaaay cheaper...
      And good luck with your new shelves :)

    • @BeautifulBooks
      @BeautifulBooks  4 роки тому +1

      Ah, I thought about doing these as well, but it's a much larger series (around 140 books compared to the 40 fantasy ones) which doesn't lend itself quite so well to a video format. I'm sure the 18 minutes of me talking in this video is already over the top for most people (ha), are you sure you could make it through for 4x as many books? 😂😂😂 Hmmm... I guess maybe I could break it up into smaller parts... If you have any questions about the SciFi series I'm happy to answer tho 📚📚
